Who will head Banking Division ?

Who will head the Banking Division in the Government of India ?.Now two names of 1974 batch IAS officers K Mohan Das and M Madhavan Nambiar have started doing he round in the corridors of power.Present Secretary Banking Vinod Rai will be sworn in as CAG on January 7.

Gyanendra Dhar Bodgaiyan (IAS,1991,AGMUT) has been appointed as Secretary, RGF and will concurrently be PS to Mrs.Sonia Gandhi. He replaces Manmohan Malhotra, ex-IFS officer.The IAS officer hails from Madhya Pradesh.

So far he was posted as IG in CID. Mahan Bharat Sagar is the 1st IPS officer to become the CVO of the SCI. To his credit he has many laurels like Mahan Bharat Sagar was topper of the 1979 batch in the 12 Class Board examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE).He also bagged the UGC's scholarship in Economics.

DGCA's crackdown on pilots/cabin crew

In a crackdown experts of Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA)of which DG is Kanu Gohain,have nabbed seven pilots/cabin crew of different India based airlines having violated rules.They were reportedly nabbed for violating Aircrafts Rule no 24 according to which no flight crew member can have detectable blood alcohol in his breath.Sources say that all erring pilots/crew members will be put off the roster for a month & incur loss of pay for the period.The drive was carried out at Airports of Mumbaio,Delhi & Chennai besides other base airport stations.Maximum number of defaulters were nabbed at the Mumbai Airport,it is learnt.

MTDC's guided tour by coach a success

The guided tour by coach to museums of Mumbai that has been started by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation(MTDC) has evoked a very good response.The MTDC of which Managing Director(MD) is Bhushan Gagrani had recently launched this facility under which a special coach leaves at 9.30 a.m. from Gateway of India.The second shift starts from the above place at 1.30 pm.The 1st coach returns by 2 p.m. whereas the second coach comes back by 6 p.m.The Corporation charges Rs.500 per from foreigners while from domestic tourists Rs.200 per adult are charged.Children of age below 12 years are charged Rs.100 per head.Under this tickets to museums & fees of guide is included,it is learnt.Museums that are covered are:Jehangir Art Gallery,Chatrapati Vastu Sangrahalaya(formerly Prince of Wales Museum),Dr.Bhau Daji Lad museum,Mani Bhawan(dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi),RBI Monetary museum & Ballard Bunder(Gate House Navy museum).On any given day five museums are covered by these coaches.

This is not a part of rules

Supertime scale in 14 years is something that is not actually part of the rules. The rules are the same for every Service. It is also a huge unnecessary burden on the exchequer, like the two additional increments the IAS and the IFS awarded themselves in the days of yore. The additional problem with this dispensation is that this needless burden is borne by the state governments which are not in a position to bear it in the first place, since they lack the financial capacity to do so. Apart from this, it is arbitrary in nature. The question is that these rules are framed by the IAS for themselves and there is no end to such whimsical acts in sight. Other Services can not partake of such sops because these sops are not actually in the rules and the rules are enforced by the IAS wherever the others are concerned! Some unintended beneficiaries of such steps could be the other "All India Services" which get some of the benefits that the IAS corner for themselves in the garb of "All India" Services.

SAIL and Tata Steel form JV for coal mining in India

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Tata Steel Limited (Tata Steel) signed an agreement in Delhi on January 3, 2008 to form a 50:50 joint venture company (JVC) for coal mining in India. The joint venture agreement was signed by S.K. Roongta, Chairman SAIL & B. Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel in the presence of other senior executives from both companies.The JVC will identify, acquire and develop coal blocks in India. Four suitable medium coking coal blocks in the State of Jharkhand with reserves of around 600 million tonnes are under evaluation for this purpose by a joint working group of SAIL and Tata Steel.Speaking on the occasion Roongta said "as India's steel industry enters a high and sustainable growth phase, raw material availability has assumed critical importance. In order to ensure security of coking coal supplies, it is imperative to augment indigenous coking coal availability. With both SAIL and Tata Steel having distinct strengths in coal mining, this JVC will generate synergy to ensure security of coking coal supplies for both partners. "
