You call it is his simplicity. I call it is his rectitude. And three cheers to the gentleman!
Suman K Sharma

Why this noise ?
Personal choice for Pande..but for how many years will we continue to make noise about "simplicity". Life is to be lived, not negated.

33 per cent reservation needed
As it was International Day of Women recently ,it would only be in the fitness of things if there is a 33% reservation among Golgappawallahs all over India. After all women are second to none in performing challenging work and every male bastion has been stormed and taken by women except that of Golgappawallahs.

Long live IAS
T Palani has listed many points as to why IAS is still the privileged service. To add a few:
1. Only IAS has a higher pay scale compared to all other services including Foreign Service right from JAG.
2. All FA posts were upgraded to AS level to improve career prospects of IAS and also block others.
3. Tenure POOL of houses under Central Staffing created mainly to benefit IAS. Others even if they come from Tamil Nadu to Delhi on CSS can wait for years for their turn.
4. IAS officers will man the Cadre controlling JS post of other services , as insider is likely to be biased. But this does not deter them from manning their own cadre controlling posts.
It is impossible to exhaustively list all such privileges being an endless list. I think Government should abolish all other services and let IAS run all the functions from lowest class I level so that the workforce is equally motivated. Long live IAS!

Our interest should be national development
It seems that eventually the favourite past time of We Indians has become IAS bashing ( along with cricket)..
Nobody infact thought it to be wise to see the profile of an average IAS Officer. Usually from middle or upper middle class , very much part of the same society we all belong to & survive in and above all the Herculean task of getting into IAS...
Around 70 odd IAS officers in a year out of 3 lakh candidates...Never forget that one really makes a wonder in this nation of Billion to get into IAS... Equally true is the fact that with some aberrations it is fact acknowledged by many practical and knowledgeable persons who have seen administration from close quarters that literally they work for the development and unification-true for the purpose it was created. Hence my submission is join hands with them (IAS) instead of the hollow criticism because ultimately we all feel and perspire for National development.

This is intellectual bankruptcy
AIS should be understood when seen through the glasses of Sardar Patel. Irresponsible comments and action of our fellow officers shows that how fast we are approaching intellectual bankruptcy. Think about country and the rusting steel frame. The efforts to weaken each other in service matters will lead to naxals and secessionists in governance. Example is next door in Nepal. Beware they are already here and our bureaucracy is still juggling with figures and fooling the politicians and this country.

Sanjay Agrawal recommended

Lateral transfers must be encouraged
Lateral transfers to and from private sector must be encouraged (with checks). This will also compensate efficient officers, as they will get good salary in private sector. He fails to anticipate problems that it will do to appraisal system. Already we have been discussing the after math of poor reporting or interpretation of word "Good". It will open up the possibility of sponsored candidates and we have had enough of that in some of the recently opened sectors.
