Imaginary telecon between Obama and Manmohan
After a long wait Manmohan or Mohna got a call from Obama.
Mohna: Hullo ji
Obama: A very good morning to you
Mohna: What
no howdy pardner
.. what's this?
Obama: Well my friend this is my style and that was his (Dubiya's)
..
he'll be history soon and I've created some history and will be creating
more history soon!
Mohna: Well then my style is
. Kee haal hai?
Obama: What did you say
.. key hole or something!
Mohna: No no I asked you in Punjabi 'how are you'!!!
Obama: How's it hanging
..¿Cómo está usted?......Come
sta ?
.Nî hâo ma?....... Annyong hashimnikka?......
O genki desu ka?..... Kaise ho aap
.
Mohna: What
Obama: I'm asking you the same question in the languages of the people
who voted me to power.
Mohna: Okay enough of this
.. what took you so long to call me
.
I understand you called the Pakistan PM a few days back???
Obama: Well I called your Boss before calling the Pakistani PM
.
are you and your Boss not on talking terms???
Mohna: Kee keh rahe ho
Obama: What
.
Mohna: Sorry I was just lamenting 'what did you say'!!!
Obama: In fact I told her to convey my regards to you
Mohna: Well you wouldn't expect a Boss to do this
.. but then why
are you calling me now?
Obama: Well my Advisors tell me that my not calling you has become an
issue in India. Does this mean that equations are changing in India?
Mohna: Please I was and remain a faithful and obedient follower of my
Leader!
Obama: You sound like a Commie!
Mohna: Not at all
here there is a saying ' praan jaye parr
vachan na jaye' or life can be sacrificed for one's promise.
Obama: Wow
seems next year you will have time on your hands
.
can you come to USA and drill this sentiment into the White House Staff
and my Administration?
Mohna: Time on my hands is a diplomatic way of saying that I will no
longer be the PM......let's take a wager
. if Congress looses then
I'll travel at my own expense and train your people free of cost
.
and if Congress wins then in the Oval Office you will hang a picture
of Sonia ji.
Obama: What about the option that Congress wins but dumps you and appoints
someone else as PM????
Mohna: Well if my Leader tells me to go I will do so
Obama: Boy do people like to still exist ?????
Mohna: I hear you like Indian food and very soon in White House 'Maa
di Dal' will be cooked
Obama: Yep once a week... now that I have the cooks to do the needful
Mohna: A word of advise
.. try some other Dal as Maa di Dal is
heavy and Dubiya had this Dal when he was in Delhi and he practically
nuked me when we were discussing the Deal one to one behind closed doors!!!!
I think the yellow Dal will be easier on the American tummy!!!
Obama: Thanks for the advice
.. you are an economist so
can you give me some advice on how to handle this economic crisis?
Mohna: Well if your prophecy that I'll be jobless next year comes true
then you can outsource your Finance Administration to me
.
Obama: And what if you become the PM again
Mohna: Well we'll cross that bridge when it comes
.
Obama: Give me some insight!
Mohna: Introduce red- tapism in a big way..... do you think American
Banks would have been so reckless in disbursing loans had there been
red tape? Take the 'spending money' that Bush announced. Had there been
red tape it would have taken years for Americans to get this money and
in the meantime knowing the freaky spendthrift nature of Americans they
would have used plastic money to spend the spending money before it
reached their pockets. Imagine having the luxury of making grandiose
stimulus packages without spending a penny! Just with empty promises
you could lift the economy..... you could have stimulated the economy
many times more without spending a penny or printing more money!!!
Obama: Wow
. have you tried this in India????
Mohna: All the time
..
Obama: My guys were telling me that you people have a novel way of calculating
inflation!!!
Mohna: Yeah
.. people are still burdened with inflation and we
give them a weekly lollipop that inflation is falling
. but
I'll only be able to elaborate after you outsource US's financial work
to me!!!!
Obama: Got to hang-up now
.. tell me one thing how did you
get Bush to be such a huge fan of yours?????
Mohna: Well I did not ask him to sum anything up and did not ask him
to spell anything out
.. because I knew he would take it literally
and would be in a tizzy!!!
Obama: See Ya, Adios, Arrividerci, Zai jian, Sayonara, Annyong-hi kashipshio,
Namaste, Khuda Hafiz
. bye in the languages of the people
who elected me!!!
Mohna: Bye Bye. (after putting the phone down) and in the language of
the person who selected me arrividerci (bye in Italian)!!!!

A Poem by Mother Theresa
(engraved on the wall of her home for children in Calcutta)
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true
enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

Look before leap
Ak should look before he leaps. In case he wants to raise the general
bogey of corruption, he should not name one particular service and single
it out for slander. Such character assassination does not behove any
one. Physician, heal thyself. Glass houses, anyone?

Revolutionary ruling
Today's on line issue of Times of India carries a news item that
the Supreme Court has ruled that right to life includes the right to
reputation and has called upon the enforcement agencies that they should
be sure of their facts before sending a person to jail. This is a revolutionary
ruling and has not come too early. The enforcement agencies, in the
last 60 years of Independence have ruled the roost and have smeared
and destroyed many reputations. The modus operandi was either personal
vendetta or political pressure or even enthusiasm to seek political
favour by being more loyal than the king. A case where reputation was
sought to be destroyed comes to my mind. In 1977-78 I was posted as
Deputy Secretary in the Punjab Government and one of my charges was
department of Vigilance. One day I received a request from the state's
Vigilance Bureau asking for permission for the registration of FIR against
a PCS officer, on the basis of " source information" received
by an inspector of the bureau. I had known this officer for over 20
years as a person of impeccable integrity. I proposed to the Chief Secretary
( who is also the Vigilance Secretary ) that the Bureau be asked to
reveal the source.
My reason was that the outcome of the investigation of a case is not
as material as the first act of the investigating officer knocking at
the door of the officer sought to be proceeded against because it is
at that stage that his reputation is destroyed and he falls in his own
estimation. The Chief Secretary' s point was that "source information"
is confidential and can not be disclosed. My argument was that the Administrative
Department is Government of the bureau and no source information can
be secret for and from the government. Moreover, I said that if the
government did not have the right to ask for this information and ascertain
its veracity, granting of permission was a mere formality and only a
rubber-stamp action and it could not have been the intention of the
government to act merely as a rubber stamp The chief secretary agreed
with me. The bureau was asked to disclose the source of information.
As expected, there was no response from the bureau.
In course of time the concerned PCS officer came to know of the case
and met me to express his gratitude. I asked him the reason for the
complaint against him. He told me that he had been, at one stage, posted
as a Magistrate and the inspector who had generated the complaint had
been posted as an SHO of a police station of which the said officer
was the Ilaqa Magistrate. The SHO earned the displeasure of the Magistrate
and on being posted to the bureau, he saw his opportunity to settle
the score. Blind faith in the impartiality of the investigating agencies
can, therefore, be dangerous.
