Net direct tax collection up
Net direct tax collections during first seven months of the present fiscal (up to October 2008), stood at Rs.166, 905 crore, up from Rs.128, 864 crore, registering a growth of 29.52 percent. Growth in Corporate Taxes was 33.49 percent (Rs.105, 174 crore as against Rs.78, 785 crore) while Personal Income Tax (including FBT, STT and BCTT) grew at 23.14 percent (Rs.61, 433 crore as against Rs.49, 890 crore). The momentum of growth in direct taxes could be maintained, despite present global financial crises / recession and its resultant impact on the Indian economy, mainly on account of a shift in the tax collection strategy of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), towards improving the tax deduction at source (TDS) mechanism and encouraging better tax compliance, reflected in growth of 35.78 percent in TDS and 52.76 percent in self-assessment tax. Growth in Corporate TDS was 48.2 percent at Rs36, 004 crore as against Rs.24, 293 crore in the same period last year. Despite substantial tax relief allowed to individual taxpayers in the Union Budget 2008, growth of PIT TDS was 26 percent at Rs.38, 868 crore as against Rs.30, 845 crore in the same period last year. Growth in corporate TDS above 48 percent, growth in Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) above 47 percent and growth in dividend distribution tax above 48 percent indicate continued strength of the Indian economy. Growth in Securities Transaction Tax (STT) however, at minus 1.60 percent was reflective of humungous erosion in values of stock markets transactions. Despite lower advance tax payments by certain sectors such as real estate, infrastructure, cement, automobile, power, textile and downstream oil companies, advance taxes recorded positive growth in mining, mineral, metal, engineering, Indian banking, telecom, IT, pharma, and consumer goods sectors.

Is this transfer logical ?
Ms. Benani Ohosh CIT 79 was transferred in Oct. 08 from CIT Siligudi to CIT (A) Calicut. This is clearly against the rule of Transfer Policy of CBDT which prohibits mid year transfer. Apparently there was no such administrative necessity that a lady officer is transferred in midst of year to such far off places of about 3500 Kilometer leaving her school going kids behind. Even an undergraduate student will term it as nothing but abuse of power of transfer by CBDT authorities. However CBDT considers It as administrative necessity? As otherwise department would collapse. It shows there is no human face in CBDT which are having a record no, of lady members?
Your website had earlier raised issue of misuse of power by CBDT by
transferring a cancer patient from Delhi to Chennai and after public opinion raised through your website CBDT had to cancel that transfer.
By such midyear transfer the CBDT is disturbing the family of the officer for none of her fault. Is CBDT not converting an officer into 'Widow with
husband alive' Is CBDT not punishing an officer without proving her guilt? Will department of women welfare come to the rescue of the officer? Time has come that an Ombudsman is required against the transfer orders of
CBDT! CAT should not only cancel such orders; but should also allow cost and compensation to aggrieved officer to be recovered from the salary of
erring persons sitting in CBDT, There Is a need to change placement committee of CBDT and some sensible and independent persons should man it. Officer from IAAS and other
department would be ideal. Readers of your website should contribute by pointing out similar misuse of power by CBDT and you should publish such abusive use of power of CBDT. You will find about 100 such transfers? Would your website stand for the cause of this lady officer in particular and IRS fraternity in general?.

Indian Revenue Service, Economy and Obama
Economy not doing well Internationally, Nationally and at local level. A fact accepted not accepted , partially accepted by us symbolising a facet of Unity in Diversity. But IRS continues to be operating in isolation. First there is no effect on Budget targets. How to meet . Intelligent officers see this as an opportunity in fishing out the black money. Others adopt usual technique of cajoling the taxpayers to pay more or maintain last year levels to get benefit during next year if Economy improves. If recent postings of freshly encadred IRS officers are an indication the harassment Transfer policy has reached its zenith. How else one can explain Lady officers are sent on a survey of India mission. Its said certain unwanted charges and the IRS in general operates at 20% occupancy. Thanks to highest number of pending enquiries . The transfer policy stipulates no core postings for such officers. Group C postings were created and encouraged with a slogan of providing all basic amenities such as house / vehicle /school etc. The pathetic status continues . What to do? We are like this only. Where the new kid in the town fits in? You got it friend . The change is yet to come in IRS.

Are stock markets really more important than the real economy?
I have often wondered what propels people to think that the stock markets (and indeed the financial markets) are more important than the real economy (may be because they lend themselves to speculation and the get rich quick without hard work types like it). Are not the manufacturing, services and agriculture sectors more important than merely the financial markets? The impact of such warped thinking is here for all to see now that the financial market sentiment is hurting the real economy. It is perhaps not a problem for the US and its cronies to have such a mindset (it helps their rich and super rich), but for India, surely the focus should be and should have been on the real economy.

Why not Paternity Leave too
This is with reference to the accepted recommendation of Sixth Pay Commission that lady officer would get extra maternity leave. Looking to the scenario of Civil Servants other than IAS/IPS who are not having luxury of officiated servants and other such facilities and on account of recent policy they are required to move to farthest end of Country, will it not be wiser man's thought to grant extended Paternity Leave too.

Directorate of Estates
There are so many complaints against Directorate of Estates in acceding to the technical acceptance in certain good areas. So far no action has been taken. The JE and the contractors are continuing to play havoc in the name of repair by taking their own time and earning commission. The sufferers are the poor government employee who is waiting without any direction as the Estate office also refuse to display as to how many quarters are under repair and how much time they will take for fear of being rubbed. All the officers and VIPs are simply keeping quite though they are aware of this.

It is shameful remark about Chief Minister of UP. It is to be kept in mind that UP is the most populated state and being a chief minister of that state is proud worthy. About amassing of wealth by Miss Mayawati, it is not proved to be criminal activity by any court. I would like to mention that she even paid tax on the amount of gift received from her obediences. It is totally wrong that she has been elected because of Brahmins because the voting of Brahmins was one of cause of winning election by her. Actually upper caste of Indian Society can not digesting her honourship as a chief minister. Why do not go behind big industrialists because of their unaccounted income which are being disclosed when Income Tax department raids. In Income Tax provision, if somebody disclosed his/her income from other source and he/she pays tax on it, then the provisions laws of IT itself absolves him/her. Then how Miss Mayawati can be blamed. It is praiseworthy that she has dare to declare her income through paying tax, instead of concealing income. Therefore, it is proud of India that being a backward caste lady, she became chief minister of UP.
