The unaudited financial results of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for July-September of 2008-09, taken on record by the company's Board of Directors in Delhi on October 21,2008, revealed that the steel major has achieved highest-ever Q2 net profit of Rs. 2,009.6 crore, 18.2% higher than the corresponding period last year (CPLY). This has helped the company to achieve highest-ever first-half (H1) net profit of Rs. 3,844.8 crore, a growth of 19.2% over CPLY.SAIL of which Chairman is S.K.Roongta also recorded highest-ever Q2 turnover at Rs. 13,544.24 crore, showing 30.6% growth over CPLY. Anomalies have been rectified
As per 6CPC pay scale of 6500-10500 is available to PAs and Assistants. The only difference is that they will not get arrears. When the 6CPC is made effective from 1.1.2006 all the pre-revised scale should be taken from 1.1.2006 instead of the date when these were announced by the Government because these anomalies related to 5th CPC have been rectified by the government.

They can be collectively depressed
As a practicing psychologist, i can say that a group of persons [in this case the Income Tax Service] can definitely be collectively depressed, especially if the policies are oppressive and officers see no hope of getting to their choice of posting till their retirement. the result would be a depressed service with low morale which would be passed on from generation to generation of officers. this may sound funny but has been so in the case of lady teachers in many states of india where the collective depression has affected the entire primary school system. hope the policy makers in the income tax mantralaya are listening. a depressed worker does not work but only spreads gloom.

Government playing with public sector airlines to benefit private ones
The government has been playing with public sector airlines in order to benefit private players like Jet and Kingfisher. Three years ago there used to be a domestic airline called Indian Airlines. Millions of rupees were spent to change its name and logo and it was reduced to only Indian. As if this was not enough, soon the Indian was merged with Air India claiming a net gain of 600 crores per annum. Both Air India and Indian Airlines (nee Indian) had turned around their losses and were even in a position to pay dividend to the government. In fact Air India did give a dividend in 2005-06. However after the merger while Air India had a whopping loss of 2,500 crores Jet and Kingfisher fly the most beneficial routes including the coveted gulf routes which previously were the exclusive domain of Air India. No wonder Air India is in deep red while Jet's balance sheets showed a profit at the end of June 2008. Oil price hike affects all airlines around the world not just Jet and Kingfisher! Is any other government in the world considering a bailout for private airlines?
VP
Enough is enough
It is high time that Raj Thakre of MNS mends his ways. India is not a confederation but a federal polity. It is the Fundamental Right of every Indian citizen to live in any part of the country and appear in any central government examination from anywhere including Maharashtra. Raj Thakre has no business to deter any Indian citizen from appearing in any examination from Maharashtra. This violates the fundamental right as enshrined in the Constitution of India. He must not forget that any indiscretion on his part may lead to backlash in other states of our polity. His demand for reservation of jobs based on the principle of "sons of the soil" is absurd and unworkable. Why is he scared of the well settled principle of "Merit". Strangely, what is the hidden agenda of the Congress party, which is ruling at the Centre as well as the state of Maharashtra? Why are they refusing to act in the national interest? Raj Thakre has already rendered himself liable to legal action for contempt of Court by refusing to comply with the non bailable warrant of arrest issued today ( 20-10-2008) by a subordinate Court of Jamshedpur. Is Raj Thakre above Law? May I urge upon the Supreme Court to kindly take suo motu notice of this chaotic state of law and order situation in Maharashtra in the national interest and protect the Constitution of India instead of leaving the matter in the hands of these unscrupulous politicians.
