Technological up gradation of bank's branches is Corporation bank CMD's priority
Financial inclusion by outreaching poor people of India tops the agenda of JM Garg Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of the Corporation Bank. In an interview to <whispersinthecorridors.com> he shared his vision.
"Innovative initiatives to ensure that poor people in India are benefited by different schemes of Corporation Bank is my top priority," said Garg who is known for his meticulous planning, hard work & sincerity. Garg who is famous as a versatile banker, had assumed the office of the Chairman & Managing Director of Corporation Bank on November 6, 2008. Here are excerpts from his interview:
1/What is your priority?
Answer: Technological up gradation of branches of the Corporation Bank is being done with an eye on future market. Recently we launched a new facility, 'e-payment through ATM' in August 2009. Ashok Chawla Finance Secretary to Government of India (GOI) launched it. This facility will help customers to pay various taxes like income tax, fringe benefit tax, securities transaction tax (STT), gift taxes etc. at anytime from any ATM. The bank will earn revenue of Rs.0.11 per payment made. Nearly 10 lakh of total ATMs will avail the facility initially. This facility is being made available for any taxpayer, irrespective of the fact if they are our customers or not. We are pioneer in taking this kind of an initiative in the Indian banking sector.
2/What is the new initiative that you are going to implement?
Answer: There are many new initiatives on the anvil. Our main thrust is give an impetus to banking among poor people living in rural & urban areas while boosting the process of financial inclusion.
3/ What is your expansion plans?
Answer: As I told you that the Corporation Bank is laying a lot of emphasis on "financial inclusion" so we are going to multiply rural banking by five times. At present 418 locations are covered by the Bank. We will cover people living 2000 villages.
4/Are you opening new branches?
Answer: Yes, we are going to open 150 new branches. This is aimed at reaching Eastern, Northern & Western regions of India. At present we have network of 1076 branches.

Aaj Ki Aawaz
A Judge declares his assets and our CJI cracks a joke at his behest!!!!
He says this Judge is publicity crazy in jest!!
Upright people are usually lampooned …. made fun of!!!
At their uprightness why do people scoff?????
But in the end the upright lot win!!!
In then end they are one's who grin!!!
In this case you can see that 'the system' is not in favor of declaration of assets!!!
In fact Judges will not allow this …. on this people were placing bets!
Fallout of this joke that the Judge who declared his assets is publicity crazy!!
Now CJI's given the Judges a new way to get out …. say ' I just was lazy'!!!
CJI says it's up to Judges to declare assets….and if a Judge chooses not to do so!!!
Now Judges can just say they were lazy or forgot and no longer they need to say no!!!
Without a doubt these Holy Cows need to be transparent!!!!
If there is no transparency then there is something to hide is what becomes apparent!!
CJI needs declare his assets ….. he'll be doing so on his own!!!
But in a way 'seed for asset disclosure' would be sown!!
Declartion of Judges assets is a must!!!
And this demand that they declare their assets is just!!
In most Democracies Judges assets are known!!!!
Its only in India on this non decleration does Democracy moan!!
Mohna had promised Judicial reform!!!!
But seems because of 'internal pressure' on this he's not been able to perform!!
Advani they say will very soon speak his mind…. 'he's been quite of late'!!!
He has to respond to Jaswant calling him an ingrate!!!
Jaswant says he stood by Advani post Advani praising Jinnah on Paki soil!!!
Advani statement on Jinnah made RSS literally in anger boil!!
Then Advani has to clarify as to whether he was in the loop on Kandahar !!!
Jaswant says Advani was in the loop whereas Advani says he was kept ' bahaar'!!
Kulkarni says what Advani spoke and Jaswant wrote are ditto!!!
Like for Jaswant's head why for Advani's head did RSS not pitto ( beat chest)????
Advani's negativity….. his double speak….. and his visionless Leadership!!!
Makes BJP look like a sinking ship!!!
And as the ship sinks on the Bridge of the ship Advani and Rajnath fight!!!
Even when a ship is sailing Master and Captain fighting on the Bridge is not right!!
Firstly their fighting made the Ship sink and they continue fighting as it sinks!!
Fight continuously and don't even stop for forty winks!!
I wouldn't be surprised if BJP breaks up because of no Neta or Neeti!!!
My reading is BJP's downfall started after NDA election jeethi!!
Just read the book that Pramod Mahajan's bro Pravin has written!!!
How by 'power and money and all things wrong' bugs BJP was bitten!!
Congress should divorce NCP in Maharashtra and go alone!!
Yes Pawar will moan and groan!!
Say the Congress NCP Alliance is only for Centre ki Sarkaar!!!
And offer NCP that if it wants it can give issue based support from bahaar!!
'Mantri padh ki majboori' will make Pawar swallow the bitter pill of divorce!!!
He knows he's in no position 'to force'!!!
And then he wants to be a Minister …… he's seen Laloo's state!!!!
Laloo for whom people used to wait now for the same people karta hai wait!!
And Pawar knows his PM dream got shattered some time back!!!
Numbers, image, capabilities and propriety karta hai lack!!
BJP and Chautala have decided to go their ways in Haryana!!!
So there goes whatever little hope INLD had 'of Tau ka Raaj hai laana'!!
Chautala felt BJP was more like deadweight around INLD's neck!!!
Seems he took a 'majority minority vote' check!!!
In Haryana BJP's more of a liability than an asset!!!
Like in the General Elections no benefit from this alliance INLD or BJP get!!
Haryana has a record of 'throwing out Party in power'!!!
Election after election with the Party in power Haryana's electorate did sour!!
But this time Opposition has done itself in!!!
And that's why despite being the incumbent Sarkaar Congress will win!!
Anti incumbency, inflation, drought will take a toll!!!
But a punctured opposition will play a crucial role!!!
In Maharashtra a youth throwing pee thaili at Deshmukh should make Congress think!!!
Is this a sign….. like pee Congress karr rahi hai stink???
In Maharashtra Congress has a lot of answering to do!!!
And this youth threw pee ki thaili and BJP Shiv Sena will throw on Congress goo!!
Congress needs to check out in Lok Sabha polls who needed whom more!!!
And this will bring the truth about NCP's uselessness to the fore!!
Confucius says…… Pawar ka chodho saath!!!
If Congress wants NCP to return to Congress pehle NCP ko maaro laath!!

Is there any reason why:

1. The Rs 67,000 to 79,000 scale is being denied to the IAS?
2. The non functional upgradation of non-IAS [2 years behind IAS] is only till JS level and not till AS and Secretary level.
3. IAS officers on central deputation are not allowed pay protection?
4. All civil services cannot be given financial upgradation so that all direct recruits retire with Secretary pay and pension.

Clamour for increasing retirement age has not died down
Despite staunch denials by officialdom about any such move. Obviously, those retiring soon are getting restless and are using whispers as a platform to campaign for increasing the retirement age. The Government should not succumb to any such pressure. Increase in retirement age would be a short term measure to tackle financial difficulties, if any. There are far more reasons to not increase the retirement age, adverse effect on new employments, being the foremost. In present times of economic depression, government is the major employer. Sixty is a good enough age to retire in normal course and can in fact be reduced to 58 years. If one goes on increasing the retirement age, there is no end to it and one can go on demanding increase upto 68 years or 70 years for that matter. Today, those who are nearing 60 are crying hoarse, tomorrow, those who are nearing 62 will do the same and so on. One has to draw a line somewhere. Infusion of new blood will only do good to lackluster public service. Those crossing 60 should gracefully retire.

Devender

32/35 or 62 for retirement is flawed and unjust.
Keeping the retirement age at 32/35 yrs or 62 years, whichever is earlier will be totally unfair for all the officers who have wholeheartedly given up all their years in the civil services right from the start of their career. This new proposal will greatly benefit all others who have been job hopping in the hope of getting better avenues and only come to civil services as a last alternative. I hope the government will appreciate the contribution of all the officers who have solely served in the civil services.

Kudos to IT Deptt. and Corporation bank for giving this facility to taxpayers

The ATM facility is currently available for income tax payment. This is a pioneering step which, it is hoped would be of immense use to taxpayers. May I request other banks also to provide this utility at an early date before the next installment of advance tax viz. before 15th September !
