Delhi Gymkhana club polls narrow between servicemen & Civilian

Yashwant Bhave takes over as Chairperson, Aera
Yashwant S. Bhave today took over as the first Chairperson of the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA). With the joining of Bhave, AERA is likely to commence its regulatory functions within the next few months. Government had recently constituted the AERA for economic regulation of the airport infrastructure sector. In terms of the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India Act, 2008, the AERA has been assigned the functions of determining the tariffs for aeronautical services rendered at all major airports, including for air navigation services, the fixation of Development Fees and Passenger Service Fees. AERA will also monitor the set performance standards relating to quality, continuity and reliability of services
at these airports. AERA is expected play a crucial role in economic well being of the vital airport infrastructure sector in the country. The present downturn in the aviation sector is likely to pose an immediate challenge to AERA as it will have to ensure that the airport charges are calibrated so as not to unnecessarily burden the airlines and passengers and at the same time are remunerative enough for airport operators who are investing heavily in upgradation and modernization. Bhave is a retired officer of Indian Administrative Service (1972 Batch). He is a Master of Science with Electronics as a specialization and Master of Public Administration from Harvard
University. During his career spanning 37 years with the Government, he has held different positions in the Government of Maharashtra like CEO of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, MD of Small Scale Industries Development Corporation, MD of State Financial Corporation, Chairman of State Electricity Board, Development Commissioner (Industries) and Principal Secretary of Department of

Aaj Ki Aawaz
Every PM has tried to make peace with Pakis……to make a place in history!!!!
And till now all the peace initiatives are history (gone)!!
Pillar-less BJP says India's Foreign Police is now pillar-less!!!
Seems BJP is basically mirror-less!!!
If only BJP looks in the mirror it will see how it tried to make with Pakis peace!!!!
And during and after the peace overtures Paki sponsored terror did not cease!!
There is a method in what BJP terms as Mohna's madness!!
And rather than sadness there needs to be gladness!!
Majority of Indians will say that they trust Mohna!!!!
Advani is doing what he's done all the time and that's just 'ronna dohna'!!
Imagine when NDA was in power 'out of the loop' oft Advani was kept!!!
Not that he was inept!!!
But Advani has this habit that he has to politicize everything!!!!
You talk to him and in everything politics he will bring!!!
Like the N Deal…… he ran a useless campaign against the Deal!!!
With the issue wrongly he did deal!!!
And in the end he landed BJP in a piquant situation!!!
People asked ' does this Party really love this Nation'????
Mohna do not take Sonia's support for granted..... she's a Neta too!!!
Hedges her position as all Netas do!!!
There are the old windbags in Congress who take themselves to be the best!!!
Any sane individuals patience and intelligence they put to test!!
Old 'retainers' who feel that they are experts in matters of foreign policy!!!
And then only a 'Gandhi' takes credit for everything is Congress's old policy!!
Had she shown total faith in Mohna no one in the Congress would expressed doubts,
It's because she hedged on the Joint Statement that there were 'sell out' shouts!!
The windbags saw this as a chance and went to the Media with their story!!
That the Joint Statement will make India and Congress look sorry!!
Sonia just ensured that if there are brickbats then Mohna will be at the receiving end!
And bouquets….automatically to her they will send!!!!
Feel Sonia has to realize that now there is no decoupling or disconnect!!!
It's the Sonia Mohna combination that people did elect!!!
So like Amar says Sonia cannot do meeta happ happ and kadwa thoo thoo!!!
She too has to take the bouquet and brickbats for what UPA2 does do!!
And Advani should realize we are sick of his negativity and politicizing everything!!
His hand rubbing, his oft going into lengthy rewinds have started to sting!!!
Buta says the whole World is out take revenge!!!!
Seems he's harmed a lot of people and this they want to avenge!!!
He's just trying to paint the 'other party' black…..something he's always done!!!
And this is not the first time he's in the dock because of either son!!
This is a classical example of how the downtrodden are abused!!
Then as a money making opportunity this abuse is used!!
And the people who uses this as an opportunity to make money!!!
Are the one's who should be standing up for them….. how sadistically funny???
Buta says Sonia is his Leader….. shouldn't this make her squirm????
If I'm not wrong the minute Sonia heard this she said ' that worm'!!!
And then she must have said a couple of Hail Mary's for calling a human a worm!!!!
Well if you ask many Indians they will say 'that worm' as an apt term!!
Mallya says his Airline business is now ' unviable'!!!!
Will reduction of taxes make the business viable????
He refuses to see the wastages and grandiose unviable plans that have done Kingfisher in!
Trying to fly further than the 'fuel load on the plane can fly it' is a cardinal sin!!!
Mallya & Goel went too big and too fast…and they has Praful on their side!!!
Though nowadays all their 'cooking and partying ' pics Praful tries to hide!!
We have Aviation Minister who has literally run Air India into the ground!!
And Air India may never take off if for some more time he's around!!!
Air India should cancel its order for planes and get an Airline professional as its top!!!
Its splurging it should stop!!!
Well run airlines have ratios that they to maintain!!!!
Leaks Air India needs contain!!!
And all this is not possible with the Minister who is playing a double game!!!
Praful Patel is Minister's name!!!
His Boss Pawar is playing his also playing his game!!!
Like Boss the chela is also the same!!!!
Now Pawar says there is a rice shortage… he knew rice cultivation was falling!!!!
Remedial measures why was he stalling!!!
After all a stitch in time does save nine!!!!
But seems Pawar was waiting for some sign!!!
Pawar will go down in history as the worst Mantri of Agriculture, Food and Civil supplies!!!
And in the Aviation Ministry the same to his chela Praful applies!!!
Confucius says….. okay history is unforgiving!!
But what about the pain to India and Indians this duo of Praful and Pawar are giving???

Shiv Shankar Menon has an excellent service record

I am a retired foreign service officer. I am shocked and surprised that unsubstantiated and factually incorrect allegations were made about the outgoing foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon. He has an excellent service record and above all, is a really fine human being who always went out of his way to help others. Unlike many of his predecessors he made sure every call made to his office was returned. The allegations made against him that he was against OBC and SC/ST officers is factually incorrect. In fact, the maximum damage, to this segment of officers was done by the then foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal (Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha Debate for 03) which fortunately was undone by Shyam Saran with the active support of the present foreign secretary who was his AS AD.
The same spirit was carried on by Shankar Menon in whose tenure, maximum numbers of HOM/HOP's were given to this segment.
Actually, the first scheduled caste Head of Mission to a major western country was appointed during his time.
It is also incorrect to blame him for his not being able to help his batch mates, who's problems are their own creations, and the matter is subjudiced.
His promotion policy initiated is the fairest as having been a member of the DPC, I'm aware of the shortfall of the earlier policy, by which injustice was being done.
The foreign secretary does not make the foreign policy which is the prerogative of the Prime Minister, and the foreign secretary executes it.

It must have been done in long term interest of India
I beg to differ 'PM Mislead'. This has been written in bad taste. Right from Independence to date no Government whether it is Congress/NDA/UPA etc so far has ever changed the direction of the Foreign Policy keeping in view India's interest always which includes stragetic, regional and global as a whole. Perhaps the writer is unaware that Diplomacy means a continued process of negotiations and dialogue. Each country keeps its interest in mind with changing situations every moment. National Interest and security of the nation always comes first. Whatever has happened in Egypt (Sharmal Sheikh) must have been done in some long term interest of India. One has to read between the lines the message with longer perspectives in mind. As is famous real Diplomacy is you say something but you do something altogether different and when you really act it is normally a third line.

'Bad draft, still worse logic'
As if the bad draft of the Sherm declaration was not enough, the parliament and the people of India are sought to be fed worse logic for the sharm of all Sherms of independent India! The argument that the only other option to the Sherm agreement is war with Pakistan is terribly flawed. Coming from the strategic thinkers and diplomats of the highest bureaucratic stature, such absurd arguments irritate an average Indian. Political analysts are aghast at such flippancy! That our parliamentarians, who are not only highly erudite but also wise people with long experience of world political affairs have swallowed such patently specious and dangerous thesis is most perturbing. It is ... I don't want to waste words but you can guess the non-verbal epithet. Whosoever sells such silly theory to the government is being less than loyal, displaying lack of absolute loyalty at all times( while in service or retired)to the government (may be different from political affiliations),which is the test of an Officer of the State Of India. Such a person has extremely poor understanding of the affairs of the government and is a permanent liability. The hallmark and brand equity of a civil servant is the alternatives he/she can bring out, for good decision making rather than confronting the government with the only alternative he/she can visualise in the form of the declaration under the false impression that the only other alternative to the Sherm formulation is war with Pakistan. Childish, indeed!
The worth of a civil servant is to produce the multiple alternatives available to India, short of war. Has India so far initiated even one war against Pakistan? No. It was the flawed logic of the Pakistani establishment that they could easily win a war against India and break their fast in Chasme-Shahi, take lunch in Jodhpur and dine in New Delhi. How wrong those Pakistani strategic think tanks and their supporting civil servants have been proved each time they acted on such ill advised ventures? War is not going to solve anything for Pakistan or India. Therefore, the only alternative lies between the Sherm declaration and the war. If Civil Servants, Diplomats, Strategic thinkers don't put up those alternatives before the government, they are drawing their salaries without adequate justification. Pakistan can be tamed even without a war, only if we know our diplomatic powers well. Pakistan can be made to realize the futility of terror tactics as its state policy. India is the seat of the Darool and the Indian Muslim community can always get a Fatwa issued against acts of terrorism against India by Pakistan state actors or the so called non-state actors. Those of us who have studied the Muslim Law know it for certain that the Pakistan sponsored and funded terror activities against India are against the tenets of the Sharia, attracting the penalty of open whipping and even eye for the eye for those killed in such attacks. Nobody buys the terrorists' interpretation of the Sharia. Besides, there is no dearth of effective deterring options available to India, only if we choose to look beyond our closed eyes and colored goggles and use the chasma given to us by the Almighty. Pakistan and India will eventually become friendly nations once we pursue the alternatives galore between a badly drafted declaration and war.

Aviation Mess
By now the public is aware of the relations between the two big domestic airlines and the concerned minister. Earlier the Minister was instrumental in getting the Petroleum Ministry to grant special credit facilities to these airlines. Now Mallya has realised that his airlines is in deep trouble. Even today he has huge outstandings with the government oil companies and a massive debt. Now he has brazenly demanded that if Air India can be given bail out package then Kingfisher should as well be given a bail out package. He may still have a friend in the Ministry (may be only for a short time) but he should not think that he is the son-in-law of the Government to get such treatment.

Pilot project by NRAA is good idea
The news about pilot project by NRAA is very good idea as it will protect our biodiversity and at the same time strengthen the rural livelihood. This si very essential to beat the climate change. All the foresters and rural administrators must support NRAA as it is the only to bring water and food and biodiversity security for the country. This should have been done by the MoEF long back with the JFM. Dr VK Bahuguan one of the best IFS officers in India is atleast being utilized by the GOI. Sr Samra also ned to be complimented for this as CEO NRAA

Why should Buta Singh resign ?

Buta Singh is very much correct. Why he will resign? This is the country where for VIP's it is safe heaven. Earlier there were dozens of cases against Laluji, Mayabatiji. They are in very very safe side. Nobody could touch them. Buta Singhji has righty said that he has been framed by some circles. Buta Singhji kindly go on.... If ultimately you have to leave your job then like Maya Bahinji play the Dalit Card, then there is none to touch you. The democratic set up of this country is for the people like you. The Government has created Z++ category security for the VVIPs like you at the cost of the tax payers and you and your son will do hawala trading. Try to pass a bill legalising hawala in both the houses of Parliament. So why to worry?

It is a good initiative
You have rightly said that huge money is siphoning out of our country which need to be protected and buying Indian companies made products is the best way to serve this purpose. The list of Indian companies made products is not very clear. Kindly publish it in clearly which are Indian and which are MNC products. Please send the same list to me to spread awareness.

Give paper printout of vote cast
The best solution to this very sensitive issue is ,as also suggested by some other persons of eminence, that there should be provision for paper printout of the vote cast which should be seen by the voter and then placed in in secure container to be opened only under orders of HC if any voter objects on the spot or the candidate later within 1 month of counting day.

Police personnel be treated with respect
I recently had occasion to read this sad news item in the Times of India, which can be found at this link:
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/NEWS/City/Lucknow/Cop-lands-in-soup-for-draining-it-out/articleshow/4844168.cms
Within, a detailed account is given, of a severe beating meted out to a constable, who was on duty at the house of DIG Lucknow, Prem Prakash, by the officer mentioned.
Isn't it time that proper set of guidelines and rules were framed, to ensure that such colonial and high handed behaviour is not perpetrated on police staff? They are not servants. They are police personnel, and should be treated with respect. Especially by their officers.
Such behaviour is reprehensible, and against all norms of human rights. We are not being ruled over by the British Raj anymore. Indians in these colonial services should learn to respect rule of law.

Stop writing pseudonymous posts
I am sorry the quality of the FORUM has depreciated, of late, beyond doubt. Dr Mehrotra has merely betrayed his cowardice by himself writing against Shiv Sankar Menon under someone else's name after Menon's retirement. He did not have guts to write such a piece while Menon was in service. Please stop writing pseudonymous posts on your website. Please arrest the decay in the quality of your website.,which has become a Notice Board for government appointments. It is very boring,at times.Stop creating imaginary creatures for posting stupid views. I had thought, you are a balanced person. If you have guts, please my views on your notice board-cum-site.

Luck is very often a self-fulfilling prophecy
Why do some people get all the luck while others never get the breaks they deserve? A psychologist says he has discovered the answer.
Ten years ago, I set out to examine luck. I wanted to know why some people are always in the right place at the right time, while others consistently experience ill fortune.
I placed advertisements in national newspapers asking for people who felt consistently lucky or unlucky to contact me. Hundreds of extraordinary men and women volunteered for my research and, over the years, I have interviewed them, monitored their lives and had them take part in experiments.
The results reveal that although these people have almost no insight into the causes of their luck, their thoughts and behavior are responsible for much of their good and bad fortune.
Take the case of seemingly chance opportunities. Lucky people consistently encounter such opportunities, whereas unlucky people do not. I carried out a simple experiment to discover whether this was due to differences in their ability to spot such opportunities. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper, and asked them to look through it and tell me how many photographs were inside. I had secretly placed a large message halfway through the newspaper saying: "Tell the experimenter you have seen this and win? 250." This message took up half of the page and was written in type that was more than two inches high. It was staring everyone straight in the face, but the unlucky people tended to miss it and the lucky people tended to spot it.
Unlucky people are generally tenser than lucky people, and this anxiety disrupts their ability to notice the unexpected. As a result, they miss opportunities because they are too focused on looking for something else.
They go to parties intent on finding their perfect partner and so miss opportunities to make good friends.
They look through newspapers determined to find certain types of job advertisements and miss other types of jobs.
Lucky people are more relaxed and open, and therefore see what is there rather than just what they are looking for.
My research eventually revealed that lucky people generate good fortune via four principles.
They are skilled at creating and noticing chance opportunities, make lucky decisions by listening to their intuition, and create self-fulfilling prophesies via positive expectations, and adopt a resilient attitude that transforms bad luck into good.
Towards the end of the work, I wondered whether these principles could be used to create good luck. I asked a group of volunteers to spend a month carrying out exercises designed to help them think and behave like a lucky person.
Dramatic results: These exercises helped them spot chance opportunities, listen to their intuition, expect to be lucky, and be more resilient to bad luck.
One month later, the volunteers returned and described what had happened. The results were dramatic: 80% of people were now happier, more satisfied with their lives and, perhaps most important of all, luckier.
The lucky people had become even luckier and the unlucky had become lucky.
Finally, I had found the elusive "luck factor". Here are my four top tips for becoming lucky:
Listen to your gut instincts - they are normally right
Be open to new experiences and breaking your normal routine
Spend a few moments each day remembering things that went well
Visualise yourself being lucky before an important meeting or telephone call.
Luck is very often a self-fulfilling prophecy
