IDA honours B. M. Vyas for his outstanding role
The Indian Dairy Association (IDA) has bestowed on B. M. Vyas, Managing Director, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF) i.e. Amul, owned by 27 lakh producer members, the very first Ch. V Nagar Awards for the year 2008. Vyas received the award for unmatchable contribution in the progress of dairy industry for the last many years. Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam presented the award on February 7, 2009 in Goa during the inaugural session of the 37th Dairy Industry Conference. The award consists of a memento along with a citation and a cash reward of Rs. one lakh. Indian Dairy Association (IDA) Ch. V Nagar Award has been instituted jointly by the Indian Dairy Association in collaboration with Paras Group in 2008 to honour those individuals for outstanding technological innovation in the field of Animal Science or Dairy Technology, which has had a major impact in the development of the Indian Dairy Industry. While serving in GCMMF, Vyas introduced the concept of total quality management (TQM) across the supply chain, developed and launched 30 new products and developed India's largest cold chain network including creation of India's largest ice-cream and milk brand.

NTPC achieves highest ever generation
NTPC of which Chairman cum Managing Director(CMD) is R.S.Sharma has achieved highest ever monthly generation of 19.2 billion units in January,2009 with Eight power stations of the company achieving more than 100% Plant Load Factor (PLF). These NTPC stations are Rihand, Tanda and Dadri (coal) in Uttar Pradesh, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Vindhyachal in Madhya Pradesh,, Simhadri in Andhra Pradesh, Ramagundam in Andhra Pradesh and Talcher Thermal in Orissa.With 19.11% of the country's installed capacity, NTPC accounts for 28.51% of the total power generation in India. Company has a total installed capacity of 29894 MW and is poised to become a 75000 MW plus power utility by 2017.
Air travel to be costlier from March 2009
The Indian Government has approved the levy of Development Fee (DF) by the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) @ Rs.1300/- per departing international passenger and @ Rs.200/- per departing domestic passenger with effect from 1 March, 2009. The DF which is being levied purely on an adhoc basis, is inclusive of all applicable taxes and is for a period of 36 months only. The amount collected through DF would not in any case exceed the ceiling of Rs.1827/- crores (NPV as on 1.3.2009). The ceiling amount would be exclusive of taxes, if any.

The applicant sought the copy of legal opinion obtained by the Public Authority in respect of certain High Court directions on an arbitration matter. The CIC held that the legal opinion is fiduciary in nature and hence exempted u/s 8(1)(e).
The applicant contended that as the decision of the government in the arbitration matter would touch the lives of a large number of employees, a larger Public Interest is involved. The CIC rejected the appeal holding that it would be incorrect to interpret the interest of the opposite party as Public Interest simply because it involves interests of the mass of employees.
Comments
The government fights a number of legal cases in the courts against other litigants. It's interests would be irretrievably compromised if the communication received from the counsel is disclosed.

Raising retirement age unjustified
This country has around 65 percent population in the age group of 25-40 years. The country is already in the grip of recession and thousands of young and qualified unemployed are anxiously looking for productive employment. On the other hand cynical bureaucracy is out to feed itself by raising the retirement age!! How can you even justify this very thought when unemployment is growing at an alarming rate? What have these so-called "experienced" bureaucrats achieved for the country other than failing even to anticipate and prevent repeated terror strikes? When the whole world is lauding young Obama for his fresh ideas and bold approach for change, we are chalking out a plan to retain the inefficient and bloated bureaucracy beyond their normal retirement years. Of course the political establishment is in the grip of self-centered ruthless officers who would already be feeding the nervous political establishment imaginary reasons for raising retirement age so that all these worthies can enjoy the unaccountable powers and perks for two more years. I am sure they will not rest till they achieve their goal. Observing the series of populist fiscal measures, the day may not be very far when the retirement age will be raised. The fact that even otherwise around 60-70% of Government work force is totally demotivated and out of sync with the modern office work practices will not deter the bureaucracy from pursuing this utterly useless path. God help this country to have bureaucrats with integrity and conscience atleast in future!!

As per report in this website, Deparment of Revenue is going to prepare cases against officers on the ground of moral turpitude. While it is a good move, has the government or any of its department has ever did similar exercise in case of IAS whose moral turpitude has no limits.

There is jubilation amongst ad-hoc Under Secretaries of CSS who have been awaiting their inclusion in the Select List for the year 2003 as it had been pending since long because of proposed move on the part of CS Division of DOPT to include Junior Direct Recruit SOs in it by granting them relaxation not covered under CSS Rules. After hearing both the parties (DRs and Promotees), Hon'ble MOS has directed that the Select List be prepared without any relaxation i.e. as per CSS Rules. However the file is not being sent down by interested party working in the Office of MOS (PP).

BJP's re-invocation of the "Hindutva" card for the upcoming General elections, merely demonstrates its intellectual and ideological bankruptcy. Religion is no longer an issue. Instead, it is an anachronism for the 21st century ! It only divides the nation.Is it the motive of the BJP to take the country back to the 19th century? Their agenda, I suppose, should have focussed on burning national issues like: Exponential growth of corruption under the present Government, failure of Indian diplomacy to tackle terrorism, diluting the authority of de jure PM by imposing the extra-constitutional and de facto authority of the UPA Chairperson, dynastic perpetuation of authority by projecting Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime minister of the country ,Satyam/DDA lottery/ housing and provident fund scams etc. How could the BJP, by virtue of its poor and irrational track record in Karnataka, claim to be a national party ?What is it gaining by its divisive policy?
