HR Excellence Awards presented In a first-of-its-kind event, Steel
Authority of India Limited (SAIL), in collaboration with the Indian Institute
of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) and The Economic Times, presented the maiden
SAIL HR Excellence Award to seven Indian manufacturing companies for path breaking
contributions in the field of 'People Management Processes' here last evening.
The award winning companies are Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL),
Moser Baer and Tata Motors in the large scale companies category, Castrol and
Jindal Steel & Power Limited (medium scale category) and ITW Signode and Honeywell
(small scale category). Indian Minister for Steel Virbhadra Singh presented the
awards - each comprising a trophy, a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh and a citation - at
a glittering ceremony in the presence of Union Minister of State for Steel A.
Sai Prathap, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council Chairman Dr. V. Krishnamurthy,
Member of Parliament Shri Naveen Jindal, Steel Secretary P.K. Rastogi, SAIL Chairman
S.K. Roongta, IIM-A Director Dr Samir Barua and other dignitaries. The SAIL HR
Award for Excellence has been instituted by the company to commemorate completion
of 50 years of production. The expertise of IIM-A as 'Knowledge Partner' and of
Economic Times as 'Media Partner' were utilised gainfully to recognise outstanding
work done by companies during the last five years to effectively manage their
workforces through innovative and cost-effective talent enhancing practices that
contributed to intellectual or other forms of capital formation of the organisation,
society or nation. A book on exemplary HR practices, compiled from the exhaustive
data obtained through the application process, was also released by the Steel
Minister during the event. An eminent jury headed by Dr. V Krishnamurthy assessed
the 43 applications that were received by SAIL for the awards. Other members of
the jury included National Knowledge Commission Chairman Sam Pitroda, HDFC
Chairman Deepak Parekh, RBI Deputy Governor Ms. Usha Thorat, William Rothwell,
Prof. at Pennsylvania State University, S.K. Roongta, Dr. T.V. Rao, Adjunct Prof.
at IIM-A, Dr Neharika Vohra, Prof., IIM-A, and T.K. Arun, Editor (Delhi), Economic
Times. The process of tabulating and evaluating data, shortlisting companies and
selecting the winners was rigorously carried out over a period of six months.
The participating companies were categorised into three groups based on the manpower
size of their organisations.Speaking on the occasion, Virbhadra Singh, who was
the Chief Guest, pointed out that "No business can flourish and grow unless
enough emphasis is given to people and it is because of this reason that HRD had
gained a permanent role within organisations, agencies and nations" and praised
SAIL's "initiative to institute awards for recognition in this area".
Sai Prathap, the Guest of Honour, in his address, remarked that recognition
of talent motivates employees and results in higher productivity, and should be
the success mantra of any organisation as 55% of India's population would be in
the below-35 age-group for three successive decades.Referring to the recent global
economic downturn, Shri P.K. Rastogi said that "only companies that foster
all-round excellence in all areas of management will be able to survive in the
face of global competition". S.K. Roongta on his part acknowledged that the
awards were actually a tribute to "SAIL's greatest strength - its human resource".
Others who expressed their views on the occasion included Dr. V. Krishnamurthy,
SAIL Director (Personnel) G. Ojha and IIM-A Director Dr. Samir Barua. ITW Signode
was selected for the award for its well-integrated performance management process
that is objective and linked to compensation and rewards, training and career
management. Honeywell was awarded for its management review process that is
participative, comprehensive and multidimensional, promoting accountability, succession
and retention. Castrol's Ascent programme where employees move to higher level
roles through exemplary preparation and Jindal Steel & Power's recognition
scheme for employees and efforts to protect and rejuvenate the environment secured
them their respective awards. HPCL's ability to bring about change through people
as its partners, Moser Baer's practice of competency assessment and systematic
training and Tata Motors' benchmarking practices against the world's best helped
them clinch their honours.

Ki Aawaz Seems when Auto Riders was under Praful
some gupla took place!!!! And a CID investigation ordered by Court the Company
karr rahi hai face!!! But why CID
.. doesn't it come under NCP's R.R.
Patil???? So it is akin to getting a murder case investigated by brother
of the katil!!!! In the end Patel will get a clean chit!!! As long as
in the Maharashtra HM's chair a NCP Leader does sit!!!! Auto Riders plied
luxury buses between Mumbai suburbs and downtown!!!! And it's over ambitious
and unrealistic plans brought it down!!! What needs to be also investigated
is that how did Praful head Autoriders??? With his being given this post
were there some 'unwritten' riders???? Pawar says India 's granaries are
stocked for 13 months
galath!!!! Because we know what is the
'stock's' haalath!!! Knowledgeable sources say then it's their assumption!!!
That India has stocks to last for just 6 months as 50% is not fit for human
consumption!!! Mamtha has punctured Laloo's surplus brag!!!! From 90,000
crores to 8361 crores kiya Mamtha ne brag ko sag!!! Hope all the Colleges
that sent their students to meet Laloo are taking note!!!! Laloo literally
made figures bloat!!! How can a man who brought Bihar to its knees achieve
such a turnaround???? Well now the truth about the untruths will be found!!!
For some of the improvements in the Railways it's the Railways that deserves
the pat!!! Railways worked as in Mantri's office Laloo with his spittoon
and chamchas idly sat!! Now this is not new as this kind of jiggery pokkery
has been going on!!! On a packed AI flight three 'stowaways' were 'thrown
on'!!!! They were issued manual boarding passes and made to board the flight!!!
Proving might is right!!! This is bound the happen when you have a Mantri
like Praful at the head!!!! Rather than AI he's been worried about Jet and
Kingfisher instead!!! So employees of the AI feel why can't they shortchange
the Airline too!!! When the man in the cockpit is 'shortchanging' AI down
the line same the employees do!!! I'm pained and sad to see that BJP is still
not being able to stand!!!! And Advani by resigning is refusing to give BJP
a hand!!!! They all are running about like headless chickens
.running
and clucking!!! Why from taking responsibility for BJP's loss and resigning
is Advani ducking? Rajnath's continuance also shows in BJP accountability
is an alien word!!! Seems in BJP this word has not even been heard!!!
I feel for naming of roads , bridges etc. every Party should write a name on a
chit! And given an undertaking that once the winning chit is drawn quietly
they will sit!! No one will object as the choosing process has been free
and fair!!!! It will then be 'accept or bear'!!! Congress will say '
chits should commensurate with strength in the House'!!! And Parties with
a smaller presence on this will have a grouse!!! Inflation is 'booming' but
Sarkaari figures say inflation is in negative territory!!! IIP figures are
up but on the ground this is not the story!!! Table inflation is now reaching
20%!!!! By failing monsoon and petro hike to this level inflation has been
sent!!! Aam Aadmi is crying in pain..... Sonia Madam did the cat get your jeeb
(tongue)??? Sonia and Mohna's silence is indeed very ajeeb!!!! I was watching
MJ's Memorial farce in a Public place!! When someone commented ' is it the
Memorial of a State Leader' with a straight face! For God's sake the man
was accused of pedophilia and settled the case out of Court!!! 'Such a Memorial
for such a man' I'd like to retort!!! Confucius says
can fame
and money be a whitewash????? In MJ's case seems fame and money ne kiya morality
ko squash!!! Tlash... Pawar says he formulated a plan A, B and C!!!! Whereas
insiders say till yesterday they did know any plan ka a,b,c!!! Till yesterday
he was rattling rainfall data and saying monsoon was normal!!! And today in
Parliament he says he's planned for rainfall being abnormal!! Backdated A,B
and C plan....... chalo better late than never or kabh nahi!!!! One more entry
in Pawar's misdeeds ki bahi (account book)!! Bharat Kumar aaj_ki_aawaz@yahoo.com

We do not owe any responsibility, whatsoever, of the views of our surfers as they
are their personal opinion) Why best talents fail as a bureaucrat?
Yes, we know Indian bureaucracy does not perform. Not that people who joined
bureaucracy are morons. In fact they are the best talents of the universities.
If an IITian is outstanding in private sector or in research, why is he least
efficient as a bureaucrat ? People should look for an answer to this. Anasooya
Will the FM take care of such IT officials ? There are Income
Tax Commissioners, who have not served outside Delhi for a day ever since joining
service, ie for last 20 years or more. Will FM call for list of such officers
and post them out? Reasons such as spouse in service at Delhi, children being
in 12th/10th etc. cannot be accepted as grounds to stay on at the same station
for over 20 years. These reasons should be acceptable only in cases of genuine
hardship and not where the officer is sticking to Delhi for over 20 years. D
Singh Plight of CSSS It is evident that the plight of CSSS had
been bad, is worse and will become worst in future. PS/Sr. PPS attached with senior
officer of Cabinet Sectt./ DOPT must take up the matter with their Officers and
enlighten them about the plight of stenographers. Also the supplementary list
of SO departmental exam showed 43 qualified candidates but only 31 have been allocated
to various ministries, who were Assistants. Why such a step motherly treatment
to PAs? Have they not struggled enough, have they not put in hard work, not given
written exam, more so choosing a line which is totally alien to them and then
beating other candidates and qualifying the exam? If the fault is that they belong
to CSSS cadre, then I think the issue should be taken up very seriously. If an
LDC has the option to give departmental exam of Steno Gr.'D', then why deprive
PAs. PAs are not automatically promoted as Section Officers, they sit in competitive
exams and qualify the same exam as is given by Assistants. On one hand, VIth pay
commission is talking about merger of Gr'D' with UDC, PAs with Assistants, on
the other hand such discrimination is being done. I have one other suggestion.
Let our association unite, be it Gr 'D' or Gr'C' or PS/PPS/Sr. PPS. Let us not
alienate any post and fight for a common cause. Together we can and we must. Vandana Congrats Great
news congrats of Shri. S.Alok sir Samir Shukla TAIL-PIECE This
a smart one...worth forwarding endlessly... cheers. An ingenious example of
speech and politics occurred recently in the United Nations Assembly that
made the world community smile. A representative from India began: 'Before
beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Rishi Kashyap of Kashmir,
after whom Kashmir is named. When he struck a rock and it brought forth water,
he thought, 'What a good opportunity to have a bath.' He removed his clothes,
put them aside on the rock and entered the water. When he got out and wanted
to dress, his clothes had vanished. A Pakistani had stolen them.' The Pakistani
representative jumped up furiously and shouted, 'What are you talking about?
The Pakistanis weren't there then.' The Indian representative smiled and said,
'And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech. 'And they say
Kashmir belongs to them Contributed by-Satya Singal |
