"The Great Indian Love Story" by Ira Trivedi
The Second Novel by Ira Trivedi, an MBA from world famous Columbia Business School in New York-turned-author exposes phenomenon of Page 3 parties in the capital. Trivedi's protagonist, Riya, returns to India after she sees average skills not standing her a chance of earning a decent future in recession-hit America that's too eager to get rid of its migrant population. After her carefree days spent as a student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Riya finds her life in Delhi, the city she had left behind as a child, a little dull till she meets Serena, the wild child who parties hard and snorts cocaine harder. After befriending Serena, a Chandigarh raised bureaucrat's daughter who had a heavenly childhood turned upside down after a broken relationship in New York, her parents divorce, her father's heart attack and death, and her mother's second marriage, she gets a real taste of the psychedelic lives of the rich and the famous that she
got to hear about at the lockers and sauna rooms of her high-end gym.
Suddenly Riya finds herself consorting with industrialists, fashion designers, cocaine pushers, arms dealers, and rich wives who hate their husbands' guts for doling out the dollars for supermodels at their exclusive penthouses in Gurgaon, even as they are sent off to foreign trips every month with platinum cards. As she navigates her life through the muddy potholes in dark lanes leading up to palatial bungalows with BMWs, Audis and Mercedes parked at every step, she gets to see the India that has come into being in the last decade - an India that shines bright when the rest of the city is fast asleep, rendered tired by the Mean City's demands taking a toll on their aching bodies and overwrought minds. The author is familiar with Delhi's swish set and you can probably even get the drift of who some of the characters are loosely based on if you are familiar with the circuit. But what works for the book is that it lays bare the souls of the
protagonists that reflect familiar emotions like loss of a loved one or craving hopelessly for someone or something that can never be yours. The characters flaunt their bikinis, solitaires and Ferraris at the hippest nightclubs to get over the divorces and betrayals that leave them with hollow hearts even as the DJ spins from trance to hip-hop to Delhi's favourite music - Bollywood hits and bhangra. At the end of the day, it's about people with broken dreams and shattered lives trying to live in their champagne bubble that bursts suddenly, bringing the fortunate ones back to reality.Young India, which has shown great interest of late in literature reflecting either the way it lives and what it aspires to, will find this novel a racy read.

SAIL Resilient. Committed-S.K.Roongta
For all in SAIL, the year 2008-09 marks yet another milestone dotted with challenging tasks and rewarding actions. At this juncture, when SAIL has completed 50 glorious years of commencement of its operation, we once again commit ourselves to evolving time-tested resilient practices, innovative spirit and deepen our resolve to fulfill our commitment to the nation, said SAIL Chairman S.K.Roongta while addressing 37th Annual General Meeting in New Delhi on September 10, 2009. With these efforts, SAIL had achieved the best ever turnover of Rs. 48,681 crore (a growth of 7%), earned Profit Before Tax (PBT) of Rs. 9,403 crore and Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs. 6,175 crore, said Roongta. During the year, net worth of the company has further grown by about Rs. 5,000 crore. In spite of severe slowdown in second half of the financial year ,he said adding, SAIL plants produced 12.5 million tonnes of saleable steel, achieving 113% capacity utilization during the
year. Production of hot metal at 14.4 million tonnes and crude steel at 13..4 million tonnes also exceeded the rated capacity. SAIL plants enhanced operational efficiency by improving techno-economic parameters (2% lowering of coke rate and 3% in specific energy consumption rate, etc.). Cost reduction initiatives had resulted in savings of around Rs. 850 crore during the year.

Aaj Ki Aaawaz
HM says Ishrat had terror links and has confirmed this in an affidavit to the Court!
And please do keep in mind to a Congress Mantri the HS karta hai report!!
This affidavit was made during UPA's previous stint so why is Congress saying??
That Modi should face the music for Ishrat's 'slaying'!!!
The affidavit was ready quite some time back so to file it why the delay???
Maybe the file like a baton passed on in a 'slow walk or turtle relay'!!
Congress now has egg on its face and is looking to wiggle out!!!
And Mr. Manish Tiwari ' untruth does not become the truth if you shout'!!
This gunk has made it a practice to shout and insult with whom he does not agree!!
And when he shouts and insults you can see ' with him truth does disagree'!!
Imagine PC is in US to study how to fight terror and back home what is Congress doing???
At those fighting terror it is booing!!
Congress should do a recall….. what it did during Punjab 's dark days?????
When to quell terror it encouraged the Police to use the most brutal ways!!!
If this Nation has to fight terror then vote bank politics have to be kept aside!!!!
And all should pledge we are only on the Nation's side!!!
America 's success in fighting terror is because Americans put the Nation on the top!!
It's with this sentiment that terror in its steps they have been able to stop!!
Maharashtra Government is on a pardoning spree!!!
From criminal charges its set quite a few Congress and NCP Netas free!!!
This could also be taken as a sign of worry!!!
That BJP Sena could win and so to let off 'their own' Congress NCP are in a hurry!!
Amongst those let off are Shinde, Praful and Deshmukh's son!!!
Any BJP Sena Leaders that have been let off….. none!!!
Okay if they wanted to give an 'amnesty'..... why not all!!!!
As a gift free all of criminal charges in Maharashtra …. 'parting gift' karro iss ko call!!!
Why only Netas….. do they come in a class of their own????
If you ask Indians for all kinds of criminal and nefarious activities Netas are known!!
Rahul Baba is making DMK nervous…..in TN Rahul says Congress should go alone!!
These words are making Karuna and Stalin 'silently' moan!!!
Though to lighten the jhatka Rahul also said that he admired Karuna!!!
Rahul hitting out and then showing karuna (compassion)!!
Karuna cannot afford to pull the plug so he'll take Rahul's words with a pinch of salt!!!
Or just say trying to further one's Party's prospects is no fault!!
Or Karuna will hit back with tit for tat and say DMK will contest in Dilli!!
Tit for tat though to many this would sound silly!!
In Maharashtra with Shinde heading the seat sharing talks,
Means Congress has sidelined the anti NCP hawks!!!
Shinde and Pawar are pally ……so for all you know Pawar will get a better deal!!!
And cheated many a Maharashtra Congress leader will feel!!
The feeling there is with MNS eating into BJP Sena vote share,
And with BJP's woes and Sena at crossroads much better on its own Congress will fare!
And Lok Sabha elections have shown NCP to be on the decline!!!
That is why on Shinde's appointment Congressmen karr rahe hai whine!!
In AP can Congress allow an upstart to thumb his nose at it?????
First in YSR's shoes this upstart does not fit!!!
He's a novice and has no experience and feels his qualification is he is YSR's son!!!
And now 'Congress will split if Jagan is not made CM' campaign karr raha hai run!!!
Yes … yes….bring him to Delhi and make him a Mantri ….a junior one!!!
And let him know it's not enough to be YSR's son!
Pranab Da why a private Jet … don't you want to contribute to the austerity measures!
More so when you've asked Krishan and Tharoor to give up their '5 Star pleasures'!!!
Though Pranab Da could fly into a fit and say!!!
To announce that India has arrived FM using a Private Jet would the apt way!!
Akali Dal is holding a ' fikkar karro parr ghabrao na' conclave….five star one!!!
And for a lunch at Sonia's favorite resort bookings have been done!!
Maybe this is Pappy and Sonny's way of keeping their flock happy!!!
Maybe Sonny will be in the forefront to signal soon he'll be taking over from Pappy!!
In Delhi another VVIP chori…. Lal Bahadur Shastr Ji's watch or ghadi!!!
Lagtha hai in Delhi mein lagg gayi hai VVIP items ki chori ki jhadi!!
Confucius says…. hope one of them walks away with ghoos CD of a Neta!!!
And then leaks it to a Channel that runs it as… Dekho Neta kya kya hai letaa!!!
Adds… Most Indians will not take this to be a chori….it'll be act of patriotism!!!
It'll show us the nangaa naach of political opportunism!!
Flash.... Tharoor is twittering about his new residence!!!
Says as he's paying so he should be allowed the choice...new ghar is making him tense!
But he's not paying the rack rate ... he's getting a Mantri discount!!!
And so his helping out the Hotel Chain one cannot discount!!
MEA can favor the Hotel Chain!!!
And no Hotel Chian will dish out favors unless it has something to gain!!

Aberrations in select list

DS and US of CSS cadre on regular promotion get notional pay fixation from the select list year and clear instructions are mentioned in all orders in this regard. However recently about 2500 adhoc Assistants of CSS have been placed in their respective select list year beginning from 2003 - 2006. However there has been no mention about, from which date these officials will get benefit of notional pay fixation. Please help us by clarifying the position

MHA website still not updated !
Some reader through your esteemed website had raised concern about outdated website of MHA. Alas! no improvement has been seen since then. Why? Is it deliberate? If the website is not modern, updated and user friendly, can we expect our police forces and weaponry to be? It reflects poorly on NIC's functioning. Concerned officer and staff need to be pulled up to bring down the image of government.
Ram Singh
There are deliberation in various Government organisations especially undertakings/autonomous bodies, where mischievous activities are flourishing for promoting juniors against seniors for want of ACRs. I am fully supportive of the action against the Writing and Reviewing Officers, who should, do their duties on time and complete ACRs of juniors and forward with evidence to the CR Officers. Otherwise it tantamount to dereliction of their duties and action deemed fit to be taken against them.

DEBATE ON RETIREMENT AGE
yes
Prem Kumar Baranwal pbaranwal@indiatimes.com
NO
S B Tripathi sbtripathi10@yahoo.co.in
Yes, the retirement age should be 62 years considering the average of human now and the emergent need of the hour to postpone the Govt. expenditure on account of post retiremnet dues payable to Govt. Servant, apart.
Suresh Kumar skumar@yahoo.com
Raising of Retirement age
There should be uniformity in policy. Better there is no extension to any one, on whatever be the grounds, after superannuation. Once the extension is given to even one person, it stands proved that people have capacity and energy to work beyond that age. It is also a well known fact that only those who have proximity or exposure to decision-makers get the extension. It is a sad, big joke to say that only the deserving people are given extension. There are hundreds others who don't get noticed as they are posted far away; don't have the political 'pull' as they do no chamchagiri; or better still to put to their credit that they stand firm against succumbing not to resort to sycophancy. Further, I strongly feel that 'extension' is grossly unjust to 'next-in-line' officers who would occupy the posts held by these 'on-extension' people. It is absolutely wrong to say that extension was given because a particular officer alone was suited to the job. Such things are meant only to satisfy the file.
Ujagar Singh ujagars@hotmail.com
No, in fact retirement should be brought down from 60 to 58 so that job opportunities can be created for the younger generation. In case, the services of people, if at all required on selective basis, should be taken but salary and perks should be less by 50 percent.
K V Suresh sureshkv63@gmail.com
The best way of settling this debate is to withdraw the facility of government housing and vehicles from all at age 60. The option to continue in government service may be given upto 62 but without these perks.
Suman Swarup swarupsuman@hotmail.com
No increase in retirement age
M S Negi negims84@hotmail.com
I generally agree that extension of service on year to year basis should be allowed to efficient officers till the age of 65 yrs. Increasing the retirement age to 62 yrs for all employees regardless of their performance should not be encouraged. Decision in this regard could be taken after thorough scrutiny of service records and obtaining recommendations of their superiors.
Tail-piece
Relationship with yourself....!!
One day not too long ago the employees of a large company in St.
Louis, Missouri returned from their lunch break and were greeted with
a sign on the front door. The sign said: "Yesterday the person who has
been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you
to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym."
At first everyone was sad to hear that one of their colleagues had
died, but after a while they started getting curious about who this
person might be.
The excitement grew as the employees arrived at the gym to pay their
last respects. Everyone wondered: "Who is this person who was
hindering my progress? Well, at least he's no longer here!"
One by one the employees got closer to the coffin and when they looked
inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood over the coffin,
shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of
their soul.
There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it
could see himself. There was also a sign next to the mirror that said:
"There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth:
it is YOU.
You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the
only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and
your success. You are the only person who can help yourself.
Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends
change, when your parents change, when your partner changes, when your
company changes. Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond
your limiting beliefs, when you realize that you are the only one
responsible for your life.
"The most important relationship you can have, is the one you have
with yourself.
