Disastrous dictatorship
In a democratic system a person becomes stronger by public support,
not by gaining an official capacity. Becoming stronger due to a post
leads to a disastrous dictatorship.

Free ration not required
I agree that free rations to the senior Army Officers particularly to
those who are not on combat duties is not required as they are as well
paid as other government officers and there are no specific hardships
to these officers. Infact even the subsidized canteen facilities to
senior officers has no meaning as they can well afford the market rates.
However these rules are supposed to be applied equally to all services
including IAS and IPS whose officers also tend to indulge into these
feudalistic practices of having a retinue of servants to serve them
at homes. IPS officers in particular has made this practice of having
an 'ardali' attached to them as an officially permissible. All these
practices are borrowed from the erstwhile "Raj" and have no
place in the modern India. It is time that a stop is put to these archaic
practices in every institution be it Army, IAS or Police forces.

It is a shame
It is a shame that the Supreme Court has to admonish the Defence Ministry
not to treat soldiers like beggars. It is even sadder that these men
are serving the country at the cost of life and limb, and then government,
on the advice of certain malicious persons, is litigating all the way
to the supreme court, just to deny disabled veterans a couple of thousand
rupees a month. And yet there are those who insist that army men are
somehow "pampered" (they are probably the same people who
cause these cases to be sent to the supreme court, where the ASG then
has to hear this sort of admonishment, because of their trickery).

Two IRSs are worst services
Definitely the two IRSs are the worst services amongst the organised
group A services. Promotions are slower by more than 5 years than the
IAAS. Transfers are resorted by the board, just to harras the officers.
Unwilling officers were posted, ignoring the request of willing officer,
who want to stay in class d or the so call hard posting. Besides it
provides the worst facilities like housing, transport etc. The boards
never forward request for deputation until hard bargaining is made,
even when the officer on deputation is even less than 1% the working
strength under these two Boards.

Cadre management poorest
Cadre management of Central Engineering Services with the exception
of may be Railways is poorest. 1980 batch in most of these services
has yet to be promoted to SAG level. Persons responsible for their cadre
management gloat over this situation rather than feeling ashamed. This
is why Engineers prefer to join Civil Services(where prescribed minimum
qualification is only a Bachlor's degree in any subject)rather than
joining Engineering Services(what a waste! as country spends huge sum
on their education).Engineering Services have to be taken out of this
mess if our leaders want to make India a developed nation. In the globalised
economy Government Engineers are being lured with hefty pay packages
which they would not be able to resist for a long time if their humiliation
in the Government continues. The loss will be of the Government and
the people of this still poor country.

Congratulations to Gen V K Singh
I cannot hold back myself from congratulating and complimenting Gen
V K Singh for taking over as Indian Army Chief. As a BSF officer I have
served with him while he was Brig and on several occasions have had
close interactions with him. I feel proud of my little but highly cherished
association with. He is a great leader, a true commander, a real soldier
and a genuine human being who inspires not only his fellow armymen but
officers and men of other forces too.
