Well done Sonia Gandhi
Sonia Gandhi is reported to have written to Kamal Nath, Minister Surface Transport not to display her photographs at every 25 km on national highways. It should be appreciated as the most appropriate and timely action on her part. This medieval practice of sycophancy must end in modern India. Each cut out or roadside hoarding costs lakhs of rupees to the government and is easy money in crores for politician-contractors. Leaders must be watchful of exercise of authority and looting of the exchequer in their name by such elements, since the leaders would never know what is being done in their name until it is too late. Anybody seeking to misuse the names of Rajiv Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi, by such absurd acts like renaming existing government schemes & programmes as Rajiv Gandhi ... or Sonia Gandhi ... only is self-serving, like looking for 5 years post retirement reemployment!! Such people evoke contempt. If leaders don't restrain them as has been done by Sushree Sonia Gandhi, the contempt of the people gets diverted to them. So well done Sonia!

Demolition of  Night Shelters  in Delhi ???
This is a human interest story! Demolition of temporary night shelters on Pusa Road ,New Delhi, by MCD  on 22nd Dec 09, without locating an alternative shelters for the  homeless  poor, in the name of beautification for CW Games, as reported in the media attracted severe strictures from the Delhi High court. These displaced poor including children and women have been passing sleepless nights for several days. How insensitive and inhuman are these local bodies. The fault of these poor was that they could not grease the palms of MCD officials. I have written several times to MCD and NDMC to remove encroachments from their shopping complexes as they stick out like sore thumbs at the cost of aesthetics. But, they remain unmoved. Reason: Their officers along with those of Delhi Police are regularly extorting “haftas” from shopkeepers for illegally occupying public land including corridors. This is a scam running into hundreds of crores of rupees. May I urge upon the Delhi Court to take suo moto cognizance of this complaint and issue appropriate directions to NDMC and MCD. Their vigilance wings and the Anti-corruption wing of Delhi Administration were expected to  be pro-active. But, they appear to be in cahoots with the rogue elements or so it seems. The corrupt bureaucrats can be controlled  by CBI and the courts alone. This is the position in the National Capital Region , let alone other States. May I urge upon Dr Suresh Mehrotra, the Editor-in-Chief, to please flag this issue in public interest on this website and mobilize public opinion against it.

Favouritism causing downfall of one of the most successful PSU
The first mistake was to induct Behuria as CMD of IOC when he was MD of BPC, a much smaller PSU and a PSU rival of IOC. Behuria was then fighting to curtail the growth of IOC in all spheres. Now as IOC CMD he could not synchronise himself with IOC senior officials. Moreover, his interests in golf etc over rode his interests in IOC. The complacency set in IOC can be directly attributed to him. It is tragic that favouritism at the highest level is causing the downfall of one of the most successful PSUs.
