FORUM What does socially and educationally backward mean? Why is it that the Yadavs, the descendants of Lord Krishna, the major
God of the Hindu pantheon are taken to be socially and educationally
backward and given "OBC" benefits? How can the descendants
of Lord Krishna be socially backward? They have ruled India since ancient
times, the Mahabharat is the record of the Yadav kings. In ancient India,
riches were counted by the number of cows one possessed. By that criterion,
Yadavs were the richest caste in ancient India. Why are they thought
to be backward? Regarding education, it should be recalled that education
was never at a premium in India. Akbar the Great emperor was unlettered,
so was Maharaja Ranjitsnghji. Anyway, the educated Hindus never ruled
India in ancient times. Kings and princes who were physically and militarily
strong did. There are thousands of Yadava kings who have ruled parts
of India. For the past thousand years, no Hindus ruled India, the Muslims
and British did (so no educated Hindus could have ruled India at all
during the past thousand years. It was only with the advent of the British
that some Indians took to English education and since the days of the
ICS (post 1857 till 1948 - a total of merely 90 years) some Indians
who obtained an English education joined the ICS and ruled India. This
they did at great cost to themselves since they were thrown out of their
castes and became outcastes for having crossed the seas. These Indians
belonged to some particular castes. Whole castes that these few Indians
belonged to, are again paying a price for their indiscretion-they are
now denied entry to 50% of public employment and 50% of educational
opportunities. Those castes who did not have too many members who joined
the British administration and thus never became outcastes and thus
never suffered are reaping benefits again. Why is this perpetrated?
The British saw that the Brahmins who took to English education were
the real danger to their empire, being freedom fighters. They were against
the "seditious Brahmins" and sought to reduce their numbers
in Government. This they did by reserving seats in Government for the
non-Brahmins in south India. The same British policy is carried on in
independent India and the sufferers are those very people who fought
and died in the forefront for liberating India from foreign yoke- the
poor Brahmins (Chandrasekhar Azad hanged, Jawaharlal Nehru imprisoned/
lathicharged), Jats (Sardar Bhagat Singh hanged), Ashraf Muslims(Ashfaqullah
hanged, Maulana Azad jailed/ lathcharged), Baniya-Lala Lajpat Rai (killed
by lathi blow). What a great punishment for opposing British rule and
sacrificing their all? Why are reservations necessary? Why can not people
work hard and compete for education and jobs? If proportion of population
is the criterion, let each and every caste in India be enumerated and
let there be reservations for all in proportion to their population
for jobs and education-why keep out some castes? Do we deny the Muslims
jobs and education when they have ruled India for a thousand years?
No. Then why deny the same to the so called "upper castes"?
Most "upper castes" are poor and do menial jobs as cooks,
peons and orderlies. Why should they not have a future in free India?
Why should the sons and grandsons of SC IAS officers-reservations to
the same families in perpetuity- have benefits over the son and grandson
of a Brahmin cook? Why should a prince of the Yadav blood (son of a
Chief Engineer in UP) have benefits over the son of a Muslim Ashraf
peon? The green revolution has benefitted the Kurmis and Koeris (agriculturist
castes), the white revolution has benefitted Yadavs(animal husbandry
caste). Those Brahmins who are poor have remained cooks. Vijay Kumar Articulate ministers should be careful Articulate ministers like Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor should be
more careful in their speech. They should take a cue from Thiru P Chidambaram,
who is a model Minister. Arjun Mallik Kudos to DOPT: Steno D are steno D for the past 25 years and the reason given for
this is that proper records are not available in CSII Section. On the
other hand, the number of PPS/Sr.PPS and PSO posts are increasing without
any reason. A recent order from DOPT says that Sr.PPS be given two increments.
The strange thing is that these persons are afraid to sit beyond 5.30
P.M. alone and they force impotently the steno D or PA to accompany
them for late sitting. Will the officers in DOPT do something to make
these PPS/Sr.PPS and PSO understand that they are responsible officers
and if they cannot perform their duty holding this designation; they
can better become Grade D and some other Steno D who has put in 25 years
of service can be promoted as PPS/Sr.PPS/PSO. In all the Ministries;
persons holding these posts are drawing salary equal to these posts
but work wise; they are less than that of a Steno D/UDC. DOPT should
sleep still more so that posts of these nature are created more and
more. Saran Its interesting The Centers treatment of Central Ministers from the South is very interesting.
While the smart alecks like the Twit , Shashi Tharoor was given short
shrift , now another southern smarty Jairam Rameshs head is in
the block. It is the greasy and corrupt likes of Raja who alone are
tolerated for upholding the sacred values of the Congress and the holy
legacy of the Gandhi-Nehru-Vadras. Such venal politicians arms can be
to twisted right out of the shoulder joint with relative ease, so they
enjoy immunity and are the good boys as long as they regularly contribute
their haftas to the Congress Party coffers. The media never bashes such
people . The media has been correctly described as the keep of the ruling
party .The media is a prostitute who also blackmails politicians and
does their bidding for a consideration , paid in cash or kind. To divert
attention they bash the IAS, a particular favourite among journalists
as most of them tried and failed in the IAS exam. D Choudhury "Media circus over Kasab's death." My compliments to Dr Suresh Mehrotra and the browser A K Saxena for
exposing the shallowness of our TV News channels which went berserk
over Kasab. As a critique ,I would suggest that the Government creates
a monitoring mechanism to keep a watch on such media hype. The Press
council of India is impervious to such incidents. Perhaps, our TV reportes
need to be more mature and professional.TRP ratings can't be raised
this way. Prof Phillip Thomas,Mumbai |
