No surpise
IFS has not been the first choice since early 1980s.Therefore to suggest that it is no more the first choice now is wrong.

Services stand compromised
The wisdom that IFS is not the first choice of youngsters today, coupled with WIC survey on why children of civil servants do not prefer civil services as a career, are proof of the status of public services, which stand compromised. See the choice of those supposed to be on the top because of "merit" alone. They see no merit in opting for the IFS ! Instead, they find merit in opting for "IAS". They have seen everything. As an IFS officer, one shall not see anything beyond what is called B or C grade stations, but as an IAS, he will always be in A class stations early in career. Besides, there is more merit in joining the IAS in the present political-economic & social realities in India. There is merit to see merit where it lies and thus the choice of the new generation youth to give first preference to IAS is right. What is there if one has to make compromises in career, the sagacious would say? Who does not do so? Some do it overtly and others do it covertly! And why not deploy your rich endowments and assets if you have them? When I wrote my IAS Etc Exam 1970, the IFS was in category I at top!

What about OL cadre?

In Official Language Cadre, RRs were supposed to be modified long back but nothing has been done so far. There was a proposal to merge Junior and Senior Hindi Translators. That too, is pending. Assistants Steno grade c, who had so far been getting same grade pay as that of JHT, have managed to get their grade pay enhanced from 4200 to 4600 but Junior Hindi Translators under OL cadre are still lagging behind. Hindi Translators are languishing for promotion even after putting in more than 15 years of service. Wake up Dept. of OL. Further, I am unable to understand why Translator community is keeping quite?
Pks
It is not just

It is a very good site. However my personal views are that CSS and CSSS services are quite pole apart in performing their jobs and nature of work. Pencil cannot replace pen. Pen is always mightier than any thing . No body like to let others enter in their cadre and mitigate the possibilities of promotion of cadre people .
