It is nice to have such an informative matter in your website. However, it would be more appropriate if you could also focus on some of the social cause issues, like Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna, a citizens initiative to tackle Yamuna pollution in Delhi. Art of Living Foundation has just organized painting competition involving more then 150 schools or 6.33 lakhs school children, who would further educate their parents on Clean Delhi, thus promoting health & hygiene in Delhi. Such noble cause would bring further laurels to your site. regards,

New found theory
There is a new found theory propagated nowadays that "OBCs" converted to Islam due to caste discrimination in pre British India. Now, let us examine this new fangled theory on merits. Islam itself is not free of caste in the subcontinent. The darzee (tailor), the bhishti (waterman), the Julaha (the weaver), the Hajjam (barber) the Muslim Kayastha (scribe), the syce (cared for horse) all retain their caste in sub continental Islam, as does the Gujjar and the Bhangi (Dalit), though theoretically, Islam does not believe in differences of caste. When caste identities were retained after conversion, clearly, caste "oppression" could not have been a ground for conversion. If by converting to Islam, caste could be got rid of, Baba Saheb Ambedkar would not have converted to Buddhism, he would have become a Muslim (apart from the fact that there were no "OBCs" in history, only castes. "OBC" is a political construct of post independence India to mobilise mass votes just as "Backward Castes" was a construct used by the British in South India to divide the nationalist ranks and hit out at the "seditious Brahmins" who were opposing their rule). Islam in India has "Ashrafs" and the others. Also, to take a few examples, the Brahmins also converted to Islam and Christianity- the poet Iqbal's ancestors were Kashmiri Brahmins (the Syrian Christians in Kerala were Brahmins), the ancestors of the Bhuttos were Rajputs. All castes in Kashmir converted to Islam including Brahmins (their names clearly indicate this- Butt is Bhatt, shared equally between Muslims and Pandits. Clearly, caste oppression was not the reason for conversions. The question then arises as to why conversions took place and who converted? Converts could be found amongst all castes. Why? Conviction, coercion, greed, need all played a part. It must be remembered that at one time science and technology was most advanced in their Islamic world. So, many a Hindu converted due to faith in Islam and Allah. Many were forcibly converted (such were the times, nothing right or wrong about it- they were further helped by the fact that Hindus would not take back any of such forcibly converted into their fold), most service castes like Kayasths, Julahas, Darzees, Bhishtis, Artisans etc would have found that the Muslim rulers provided them with bread and butter and over time, would have converted, some would have done so due to requirement of employment opportunities with Muslim rulers would have opened up in case of conversion (India was ruled by Muslim rulers for a thousand years). These are facts of history, nothing right or wrong about them. Unfortunately, there is a tendency to divide India on the basis of caste today, and in that process, everything is given the colour of caste.

Myth on coming of Aryans
There is a myth on the coming of the "Aryans" doing the rounds in this country. The so called "coming of the Aryans" is merely a theory. It has not been proved. It was put forward by the British to justify their rule. Their thesis was that the Muslims were outsiders to the country, so were the Hindus, so the British had as much right over India as anyone else. By doing so they managed to create a north south divide, they also managed to create differences in the nationalist ranks. They divided Hindus from Muslims which resulted in the creation of Pakistan. They also divided Hindus from Hindus in the name of caste. The result is that today, many Hindus consider India as "many nations" out of ignorance and blindly following the British theories. How come the Gods of "fair skinned" "Aryans" are Rama and Krishna, both dark, both "shyam" varna? How come the Ramayana and Mahabharata the epic poems have "dark" heroes? How come Shiva is their God, part of the trinity, again dark, how come Kali is their goddess, again dark? Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas, also known as "Krishnaa", being dark, how is she the epitome of beauty? Is it possible for a "fair skinned" "Aryan" people to worship "dark" Gods, when they are supposed to have enslaved the "dark" dasas? The Aryan myth is just that, a myth. It is a load of nonsense. Do the whites in USA have a "black" Jesus, do they worship a "dark" Mary? No. It is not possible for a "fair skinned" people to worship "dark" Gods. Archaelogical evidence indicates that the coming of the Aryans is a myth, the pottery associated with the "Aryans" and "Dravidians" is the same in the Harappan site Kalibangan II.Are there not "dark" skinned brahmins, thakurs and Yadavs? Are there not "fair" skinned "dalits"? Of course there are. This "dark" vs "fair" skinned is also a load of nonsense. There is no genetic difference between Indians. India has been a melting pot of many types of tribes and people. The Huns, Kushanas, Gujjars, supposed to be invaders were all absorbed in Hindu society, the Parsis have been an integral part of India for a thousand years without discrimination, so are the Afghans, Shaikhs, Syeds, Turks, Persians etc. a part of Indian society(just by the way, Afghans are Indians as much as the rest of us (being from Gandhar, remember Gandhari from the Mahabharata, it is merely that with the coming of Islam, they converted to the new religion). The truth is that all are Indians. The coming of the Aryans is taught as gospel truth in India when it is merely a theory. Is there a foreign hand behind these theories even today? Or is it the left which perpetuates these theories? these so called differences are also being perpetuated by some sections of the so called "secular/ liberal" left, ignoring history and culture in order that they not be seen as "Hindu".

Faulty policy
I had been reading on this subject regarding reservations, its extension, castiesm etc for the last so many days. There have been comments both in favour and against. My view is the whole policy from day one has been faulty and the reason is very simple. By giving reservations and bring people with less percentage in front of normal percentage, the GOI has created a class within the class. The caste system has multiplied and not many people have really benefitted out of it. Also the standards have been compromised. God save India from this menace.

Makean legacy
Lalit Maken was alleged to be involved in the killing of innocent Sikhs during 1984. Ajay Maken is nephew of Lalit Maken and now he wants to obliterate BC SC ST by raising the bogey of elections success on inclusive growth. Does he understand that inclusive growth means including all upper caste in upper class and lower castes in to lower classes? But what the electorate understood in 2009 was that including BC SC ST in upper class in proportion to their population. One recollects with pain how BJP Chief called BC leaders as dogs and how RSS is opposing caste census. SC ST MPs are silent when their future is at stake. Is Maken a RSS mole like Subrahmaniam Swamy in Indian politics? Who are these 70 "young" MPs? Are they also RSS moles? They are not even 1/6 of congress MPs. Congress leadership need be careful about their party leaders who side with main opposition if it suits upper caste. If Makens are allowed to wreck the Congress boat, then in 2014, they are bound to lose to the comfort of regional, local, caste parties. You should stick to Indiraji's Lakshmana rekha in protecting BC ST SC.

They were power behind the Throne
Idea of reservation as per population was mooted long back, and of course its a good idea but guess who vociferously opposed this-The Brahmins. If this happens they are the biggest losers with a population of 3-4% they enjoyed an open field till Mandal came along and upset the applecart. That is why now the battle cry of No Reservations/Why reservations. Somebody says Brahmins were never rulers but remember they were Priests and in History, rulers and priests went hand in hand and they were the power behind the Throne.
Reservations are providing a kind of empowerment and that is a sore point so this anti reservation bashing. They can't digest a barbar or a weaver or a shepherd to rule. Remember these people refused to crown the Great Shivaji Maharaj too.
Sujatha
They create animosity
It is the anti reservation groups in the office who create animosity and spread the cancer of casteism in the office. The moment an officer joins, a certain community spreads the info that this person belongs to a butcher, barbar, washerman, scavenger community. The ill will is created by such people for whom caste and caste superiorty is prime. They don't look at people as human beings but so and so jaat wala. If such people reform themselves first then caste will never be an issue anywhere.

Babasahab was not a hypocrite
Nobody has criticised other great leaders but the barbs of criticism are always aimed at him and his community. Somebody writes ‘he alone did not frame the constitution, another adds he did not go to jail during Independence movement, while another blames him for Reservations. True he belongs to all but it is you people who have compartmentalized him. Babasahab was not a hypocrite, Honestly what is independence to the depressed classes who are being subjugated for centuries, his views are reproduced-“Whenever there has been a conflict between my personal interests and the interests of the country as a whole, I have always placed the claim of the country above my personal claims. But I will also leave no doubt in the minds of the people of this country that I have another loyalty to which I am bound and which I can never forsake. That loyalty is the community of Untouchables, in which I am born, to which I belong and which I hope I shall never desert.--- Whenever there is any conflict of interest between the country and untouchables so far as I am concerned Untouchables’ interests will take precedence over the interests of the country.” Appreciate his Honesty, unlike a few who on one hand fought for Independence on the other became babus and served as stooges acquiring fancy tittles. No wonder he is the Only Human being in this universe who has been exalted to the status of Divine by his People.
Anita
May god bless you !
May god bless you first who himself is spreading casteism and blaming others. Casteism is originated, practiced and perpetuated by the upper castes and not by the those who you are blaming. Ulta chor kotwal ko dante. Besides, you are discreetly threatening also the employees belonging to the under privileged castes. This is way the minorities are treated by the majority. Please stop this and mind you, you are not the only brilliant person in this world.
