Diwali gift distribution at government offices

Government is keen in eradicating corruption, it is said, and none is serious about it! Now it is Diwali Season and we are able to see all private companies openly distributing gifts and sweetmeats wrapped in colourful papers starting from top bureaucrats to the bottom level. This is a very easy way of greasing the palms. Why this practice is not being stopped?? Why everyone keeps accepting these gifts though they call themselves Mr. Clean!!!

Now a days, all central government department buildings are guarded by the CSF and it is a very job to stop such people entering into the premises but this is not being not done!

It is very easy to bring security threatening things in the disguise of gifts into the government building!!

Will the Central Vigilance Commission / Cabinet Secretary look into this (though they already quite aware of this) and issue immediate instructions to stop both distribution and acceptance of these gifts which are meant only to get something back from the officers!!.

Why not extend the service of all secretaries to GOI

Then, why don't we extend the service of all the secretaries to GOI so that their juniors are denied of promotion for ever? At this rate many of us will not able to go beyond ASs. I thing we are not asses.

Two corrections

There are two corrections in N. Krishnan's thought provoking letter(3/11) written apparently in disgust about our hybrid democracy. First according to CAG, nation lost not 2000 but a mind boggling 1.75 lakhs crores due to A. Raja. Secondly it is not Ms. Albert who wrote 'State within State', but Dr Yevgenia Albats, a Russian scholar at Harvard. She has also mentioned the name of PM as Rajiv Gandhi.
