I am happy that this website is bringing articles on corruption and other development related matters also. I would also like to add something in it. We all cry that corruption is eating our society like a termite but it is in our psyche. We all boast our nearness and position to higher authority and misuse contacts for the personal benefit. Nobody wants to be disciplined and work for the society. We have bad roads and who is responsible?

Aaj Ki Aawaz

Did Rahul need to put his reputation at stake????
He did this by standing up for Omar is the ‘general take’!!

The majority opinion is Omar should go!!!
Rahul needs to elaborate why does he say ‘no’???

Omar has been a fiasco in the short time he’s been in CM’s chair!!!
No better in the long term he can fare!!!

And it would be prudent to undertake damage control nor or abhi!!!
Because it’ll be too late in the long term or tabhi!!

And not only sack him but keep him away from the Valley!!!
Behind a proven flop Rahul should not rally!!

Omar can then party in Delhi and also ‘wheel and deal’!!!
When he was a Mantri in the NDA Sarkaar he had a hand in many a deal!!

Robbing J&K was not enough…. Dill maange more!!!
Be it Delhi or Srinagar motive of Papa and Beta has been and is to fill up ‘apna apna store’!!!

In Gujarat Congress seems to be on a slide!!
With inflation basically Congress’s promises did collide!!!

Though Modi says Gujaratis have voted against his persecution!!!
Congress ordered it and via CBI was the persecution’s execution!!

By the way where is Pranab Da who too had prophesized inflation’s fall!!
Rather than fall ‘inflation is walking tall’!!

Mohna and Montek too had prophesized inflation tripping!!
Instead in a bigger way the Nation it’s gripping!!

With Obama coming in November Mohna has only his visit on his mind!!
Totally entrapped in this insiders say him you will find!!!

After all the President of the Nation he adores is coming!!!
Nowadays the US National anthem Mohna must be humming!!

Mohna is worried how he’ll explain the Nuclear Civil Liability Bill to Obama!!
After Advani did so there is a chance Obama too will call Mohna nikama!

Mohna will not raise the indirect outsourcing ban Obama is trying to enforce!!!
Mohna will say cannot do so because for Obama ‘Athithi Devo Bhava’ will be in force!!

M.S Gill says he knows all about Sports!!!!
Not true by recent reports!!

He pushed away a famous wrestler Satpal who is gold medallist Sushil’s coach!
Or in the ‘photo op’ he did not want the coach to encroach!!

M.S. Gill has proven he’s a clown!!
When in ‘CWG Debate’ in Parliament with his antics he tried to put Opposition MPs down!

Confucius says….when a CEC joins a political Party post his retirement,
Means as CEC for this Party he allowed rules to be bent!!

Adds….. a upright CEC would never get from any Political Party a ‘invite’!!!
They'd even abhor a retired upright CEC's sight!!

JMM found saviour in BJP

As far as formation of the popularly elected government in Jharkhand was concerned, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has played the role of a saviour for Guruji’s i.e. Shibu Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Why it was so pressing to have a CM in Jharkhand now?
It was so pressing to have an incumbent as Chief Minister of the Jharkhand government because the state had faced President’s rule for long & on expiry of its period, it wouldn’t have been possible to extend it further. Resultantly, state assembly would have been dissolved. However, if that were to happen then majority of MLAs of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), who are first timers, would have been deprived of even pension benefits. Thus, a coalition government
being headed by BJP’s Arjun Munda was formed in the Jharkhand.
BJP stands to gain due to its govt in Jharkhand
Political pundits feel that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) being headed by Nitin Gadkari stands to gain in neighbouring state of Bihar where multi phased assembly polls are to commence in October 2010, due to existence of a coalition government in Jharkhand now. However, it is difficult to predict that to what extent the BJP would be able to gain out of this situation.

Also be brief, say about 200 words at the most since any views longer than that if eliminated at our end would carry the risk of the contrbutor’s item losing its original essence)

Over the last few weeks, I have read and watched a series of reports about corruption in the organizing of Commonwealth Games. It has pained me no end. Some of those things I have tried to explain but what has shocked me is the demand for my exit.
Each day there is a new disclosure and the chorus begins again. Therefore, I decided to confront the question head on. Yes, corruption has taken place in holding of the games. Trails of quite a few scandals lead right up to my door. So I will not deny it. But what is so surprising about it? What did I do that had not been done before? To see the outpourings of outrage everywhere, it would appear Indians are seeing corruption happen for the first time. Come on, let us shed that garb of innocence.
Please come with me to the collectorate of any of our nearly 450 districts. Each one presided over by an IAS officer, the best and the brightest among us. Here you find people in their thousands waiting for such commonplace things as domicile and caste certificates. There are contractors waiting for permits to mine materials such as boulders and gravel.
My contractor friend tells me it takes 18 approvals to get one permit. Please try to get just one of them without giving a bribe or using a big name. The same goes for each certificate.
I could take you to the secretariat of each of our 30-odd states. Or to ministries in New Delhi where even bigger deals are made.
The story will be repeated on a progressively larger scale. Let us travel to any of the RTO offices.
I dare you to have a vehicle registered or transferred, or just pay your tax without going through a tout or paying someone.
Why, most of us have driving licences. I ask each one of you to keep your hand on your heart and ask whether you got it by honestly appearing for a test or gave a small fee to someone to get it for you. I also want you remember the last time you were booked for jumping a traffic signal or wrongly parking your car. Did you quietly pay your fine or tried to settle the matter with the cop for a lower amount? Please get me a birth certificate from your local municipal office in a straightforward manner.
I could say the same about courts but for the risk of being hauled up for contempt. I shall still suggest that you spend a day in the court complex of any district and check out the exemplary honesty and integrity with which everybody from peon to lawyers to judges work there. Let us then go to a PWD or an irrigation department office of your choice and try to find a road or a dam built with complete honesty. I could go on. But you get the drift, right?
Somebody has thrown a CAG report on my face. Poor CAG has been writing such reports by the dozens about every department of every government at every level. I am yet to discover their utility other than providing particularly untalented reporters a means to live another day. The toilet paper in my bathroom finds better use than those reports.
It is the same with CVC.
And, ah, the media… How can I forget my friends there? Please ask them about the increasingly blurred line between advertising and commercials so that readers do not know what is paid for and what is not.
What editorial integrity do we see when interviews and features on movies appear sweetly timed with their release?
We had the scandal of paid political news during elections. I am yet to see an editor or an owner hauled over the coals for that or being asked to demit office.
No, my compatriots, it is not corruption in CWG that bothers you. If that were the case, you would have lynched every district collector and every RTO in the country by now. You have long made peace with corruption. You have become part of it when you could. It is brazenness and scale of my corruption that concerns you. That is the novelty element. If my team had kept itself limited to taking 10 or 20 per cent cut, you would be looking the other way.
The media would find it boring to report that.
What shocks you is that I paid Rs 9 lakh for hiring a treadmill that could be had for Rs 45,000. If I had done the deal at Rs 50,000 you would be OK with it. You do not mind people crossing the line. You mind them crossing it too openly. But you forget, friends, that once you allow crossing of lines you cannot set the rules for it. Also, I have only raised the bar here. Citius, Altius, Fortius.
Isn't that what having games is all about? Give me credit for at least that (though I'd prefer cash!).

With all sincerity (or what is left of it amongst us),
Suresh Kalmadi
Now, if only I could get Kalmadi to sign it…
.........................................................................................

PS : I think what cheeses off people more is that even after all the ( huge ) backhanders is that such a shoddy job
has and is being done ; corruption aside the world is getting to see what a pitiful state of readiness we are in .

As someone told me many years ago in Bombay in disgust and frustration " Saab aisa hai , paisa tho sab khate hain.
Farakh yehi hai ki Bombay mein paisa khaake kaam bhi karvathe hain, lekin yaha pe paisa leke kaam nahin karvate hain ! "
Same holds true for CWG and the world is watching - what a shame that scores of Delhites are fleeing the city fearing the chaos that will prevail. Compare that with the enthusiam & pride citizens in South Africa showed when they staged the recent FIFA WC !

No I am afraid Mr. Kalmadi , like many of our athletes , has failed the "Dope" test !!

Parvat Nanda

Indian Sports Minister M S Gill has shown in his conduct towards Satpal Ji what the world already knows and Indians must honestly accept that we are not a sporting nation. Moreover his misconduct has also confirmed the hipocracy of our culture of Atithi Devo Bavo. Hard realities but still Realities, HUM CHAHE APNA KITNA BHI GUNGAAN KAR LE.

Manoj Kumar

“India needs a Statesman-cum-Leader like Indira Gandhi !”

The news from the media reinforce the impression that things are not hunky dory 'in the Congress party as made out by their spokespersons. A war of succession is brewing within .At least, so it seems. Manmohn Singh’s sudden outbursts prove there is something more than meets the eye . Whenever Rahul Gandhi is projected as the future PM ,Dr Manmohan's knee-jerk reactions are usually vitriolic. His detractors (Read as Sonia's 'chaatukaars') raise the bogey of 'young Cabinet’. Dr Manmohan Singh takes no time to take a pot shot at them.He praises Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal and Sharad Pawar who are condemned by some Congressman. He publicly acclaims his retired aides without realizing its adverse implications on serving bureaucrats. In his own words, the present Cabinet is “more cohesive than that of Nehruvian era”.
Rahul Gandhi, the Congress General Secretary lacks grass-root experience, that renders him unfit, at present, to be PM, or even Deputy PM .I still maintain that he needs intensive grooming to restrain him from making impulsive and politically incorrect statement like the one made in Kolkatta that “the Prime Minister ship is not the only job for him”. This statement is borne out of frustrations. Our worthy PM is every inch a politician, despite his innocent look, which is deceptive. Dr Manmohan Singh has proved to be the most ineffective PM.
Perpetuation of Nehru-Gandhi dynasty is bad; but what is the alternative? I do not see any Statesman-cum-Leader who is anywhere near the stature of Madam Indira Gandhi. May God save the country?
A K SAXENA (A retired civil servant )
CPMFs are neglected lot

CPMFs are really almost neglected lot. Firstly, they are deprived the perks and privileges of the normal state police and to top it up the Law and problems when worsen due to their deeds, it is the CPMFs which bear brunt and loose lives.
Yet another aspect is the leaders. At field levels these are officered by their own cadre officers who have the stake in the welfare of their men, but unfortunately at higher levels these are commanded by incompetent leisure loving IPS officers, who in their civvies reach the spots of action and segregate and isolate areas to show to the public and rebuild the sequence as if it was normal crime. Have you ever seen any IPS officer dying in any action or for that matter any DM/DC etc in performing their duties.
CPMFs must be officered by CPMF officers right up the ladder and then only will they get their due.
Ramesh
I am a bit amazed

I am a bit amazed at some of the standard of comments found worthy of publication in your portal. I refer to the comments on our PM that after Congress loses election,he should" lead the world as Secretary United Nations. Singh is King !".Are you publishing such frivilous letters as a dversion from the serious subjects being discussed?
