Aaj Ki Aawaz

Sarkaari ads scream.... FDI in Retail means ... better price to farmers, creation of lakhs of jobs and benefits to consumers .... all hogwash!!! Because India has refused to learn lessons from the problems other Countries face with Big Ticket Retail....... a hurried step! Big ticket retail will not come here to benefit us but to make money!!!! Wal-Mart and likes squeeze the best price while buying and squeeze the best price while selling!!!! Anand Sharma's only exposure to Big Ticket retail are his visits to such stores during his trips overseas....... attracted by the ambience and sold to it!!! Yes no doubt this type of Retail does generate employment.... but it'll be set off by the number of Retailers and support manpower that such Retail will put out of business and work!! On the plus side no doubt the losses in produce post sale by Farmer will go down..... better storage and transportation will help in 'losses between farm to fork' to fall..... though where FCI is involved chori, rodent losses and rot will continue!!!! Wall-Mart and likes will be artiya and wholesaler, and sometimes hoarder, and retailer all rolled into one.... so Farmer will continue to be short changed and Big Ticket retail will rake it in....annual rate contracts are a tool via which the farmer is short changed....manufacturers too will be squeezed for increase in retail margins! While procuring from SMEs Wal-Mart and likes would press that Indian SMEs match Chinese prices.... and slowly but surely will wiggle out of commitment to buy 30% from SMEs....have the political backing and the money to buy their way out!! And sadly India has gifted a humongous market to overseas Big Ticket Retail!!!

Of course by the time the effects will be felt Anand Sharma would be back to being a 'no body'!
When big Ticket Retail's 'squeeze' would be felt by everybody!!!

Post Pawar getting slapped I asked more than 100 people from various walks of life to find out what they felt on Pawar getting slapped..... 70% felt he deserved it and 20% felt all Netas deserve to be slapped and 10% felt usage for both haath and laath was needed!!! Not one objected to Pawar getting slapped!!!! Symbolic paid protests by NCP were held in Delhi and parts of Maharashtra!!! Our Netas refuse to recognize that Public's patience with them is running 'sub zero'!!!!! Indians are sick of their corruption and their 'chori and seena jorri'!!!! And Indians blame Netas for the inflation that they face....... Indians are pretty well informed about the games Pawar has been playing as a Mantri!!!! Sugar being exported and then imported at a higher price....... red wheat imports.......onion loot......the list can go on and on!!!

And Pawar needs to be careful as this one slapping will lead to quite a few 'copy cat slaps'!!!!
Fact is when 'Pawars' are slapped Nation claps!!!

Maya's rally must have given Congress knots in its bread basket.... paapi pett mein marod!!! Problem is Congress's only plank for votes is Rahul..... And Rahul's plank for asking for votes... I've stayed in your houses, ate your food and drank your water and got the runs....... the audience need signals from the local Leaders to applaud .... so what Rahul feels is a bomb turns out to be phuss!!! BSP and SP are working on their tried and tested caste and religion formulae!!!! Congress's grass root presence is negligible ..... it's Leadership in UP is pathetic!!!! So many do question Rahul's gamble in UP' .... some say he had no way out!!! As Congress has expertise in dramas and Media power I've heard a theory that near the election Congress could sham worsening in Sonia's condition.... to kick in a sympathy wave for Rahul!!! Congress's pally Media will step in and 'dramatize'!!!!

As of now no way Congress can even get a podium finish in this UP election!!!!
Best case scenario is it gets to be King Maker if UP voter makes a fractured selection!!

PS.... Laloo was supposed to release his Party's rap sheet on Nitish.... but seems he's not been able to collect enough material!!! My feeling is rap sheet will land up in the place where he is in.... in the bin!!! Joke.... Reliance Fresh had been rechristened 'Reliance Stale'!!! On names... if Maya is Dalit Cazarina then Sonia is Citadel Cazarina... she's lost whatever little contact she had with the Public!!! On Devil's Advocate one go to see vintage Farooukh Abdullah... rude, brash and a bully!!!! His son mucked up the AFSPA issue by not doing his homework and now he's trying to make amends....seems prior to opening his gob on AFSPA Omar had not taken legal advice!!!!

Parity in Pay Commission recommended

Through your web site, I want to bring to the notice of authorities as well as the persons who are suffering due to departments not implementing this in a proper manner even though the Govt has accepted the 6th pay commission recommendation to grant parity with 2 years junior IAS officers. It is known fact that officers of several central govt organised services get their promotion to SAG and HAG level very late. Many of these officers miss out these promotions. A non-functional upgradation was the remedy rightly recognised by the 6th Pay Commission and Govt graciously accepting this. The following example will show how this facility is being denied on flimsy grounds: An officer of Central Engg Service of 1975 batch (as per DoPT definition) gets his promotion in SAG in July 2006 in a panel of 2005-06. The promotion is delayed by administration at least 15 month's as the same is supposed to be ready by March, 2005. 4 unfilled vacancies of 2004-05 were also carried forward to 2005-06 in which the particular officer could have been covered. Thus delay for him is more than 15 months.

1975 batch central service needs to be given NFUG in HAG from 26th Dec, 2007. The officer in example has completed more than 32 years of class I service on this due date of grant of HAG and 1 year and 5 months in SAG against required 25 years and 1 year respectively. He however is denied this up gradation on the peculiar argument of not having completed 1 year in SAG on 1.1.2007 since 26th Dec falls in the year 2007-08 for which eligibility is checked on 1.1.2007. How strange is the argument. First huge administrative delay in grant of promotion in SAG then this peculiar argument to deny the legitimate up gradation.

Mess in the Telecom Sector

There is a lesser known service in the deptt. of Telecom, the recruitment of which happens to be through the UPSC-Civil Services exam.It is called the IP&TAFS and is enlisted on the gazzette at no. 4 after the IAS,IPS and IFS.Ironically, the quality of work and the significance attached to their functions in the department is negligeble. They play a subsidiary/secondry role in the sector despite entering through the mother of all exams. There is sheer wastage of manpower- the most important of all resources in a nation. When will this decay in civil services be addressed?

BSNL, MTNL was spoiled by politicians, IAS and absorbed employees

BSNL, MTNL was spoiled by politicians and IAS and absorbed employees of BSNL/MTNL (which are around 2LAKH).

Talented ITS cadre

Very talented ITS cadre mainly responsible for continuous 11th year service of BSNL/MTNL is victim of Govt. ignorance.

Not only 1975 batch

Not only 1975 batch, a large number of IAS officers from 1976 batch of IAS also were empanelled as Secretary/Secretary equivalent in GoI. In all 39 (35+4), out of 70 and odd officers, as on 01/01/2009, were empanelled. (see whispers of 19th/20th May 2009). It further confirms what whispers reported that the list was drastically pruned in case of 1978 batch. In fact, as somebody put it, Government appeared to be more keen on eliminating than empanelling officers of 1978 batch. Hoe arbitrary.

M.A.

Arrogant officers ?

There are many officers in services like IAS, IPS and IRS who are arrogant and think they are extremely powerful. Such officers misbehave with their juniors and the general public and abuse their authority. Most of such officers are the least hard working of the lot. Most of such officers come from backward states and thus their mindset is an offshoot of the poor public's reverence for the services in these feudal states. What they should realise is that they have been appointed to serve the public with humility and not arrogance. They should also understand that their arrogance is rooted in their feudal mindsets but the era of rajahs and maharajahs is gone for good and has no place in a democratic set up.

Vijay Kumar

What an innocent proposition!

Navin K Das makes the innocent proposition on behalf of someone that it is government which gives postings to officers and the innocent officers have nothing to do with it! You should know how some civil servants lobby the politicians for lucrative and attractive posts and for multiple posts to be held all together so as to extract maximum benefits. It is the most unscrupulous and dishonest civil servants that are benefit in this regard, being ever willing to oblige the corrupt leaders. These civil servants eat out of the politicians' hands and have the politicians eat out of theirs. So this is a cozy partnership benefiting both, but destroying the nation.

John Thomas

Importance of DGCA !

I do agree with John Varghese's comments about the importance of DGCA, though I do not subscribe to his repeated unsubstantiated personal attacks at the present DGCA, which clearly shows a personal grudge. Looking at the track record of Shri Bharath Bhushan, a Harvard post-graduate ,ever since he took over as DGCA,there is necessity of making him permanent if not yet done so. Any one who is sincerely interested in the aviation sector will agree with me. The so called professionals who headed the directorate earlier have shown total lack of administrative skills resulting in the current mess. With fraudulent flying licences, corrupt test practices and flying clubs without aircrafts, they made the DGCA a laughing stock.

CWG not a flop !

CWG was definitely not a flop, it showed that inspite of all channels and media trying to damage and question the capability of India, it was wonderful show. All those who understand sports have commented it to be the best with excellent work. However, weak Government failed to exploit the advantage. The weak PM failed to encash it. He should have made a statement that India have robust system to catch wrong doings but should have resorted to hounding. Great opportunity lost as the team spirit different departments worked for common quality outcome should have developed as a model. Alas, cost we pay for a Government who does not have opinion of his own but reacts to media.
