It's improper to compare two Gandhis-you never know

I don't think it is proper to compare Rahul Gandhi with the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. The ideal and philosophy of both these persons do not match. One fighting for the party and the other fought for the nation during freedom movement. One is devoted to revive the image of INC with political interest and the other has worked under the same roof with a national interest for freedom of India. Now, the fact is that Mahatma Gandhi's contribution towards the nation and Rahul Gandhis contribution towards the party is almost the same as both the factors work for the nation, still having difference of views. The great question here is that "Will Rahul Gandhi join power in due course of time or he will try to work only for the nation and its people, the way Mahatma Gandhi worked. If Rahul Gandhi restrains himself from taking power into his hands, it will be obviously wrong to compare him right at the moment with Mahatma Gandhi but if he is determined to work for the nation and for the people at the grass root level, he is surely the Mahatma Gandhi Of Kalyog and the nation will salute him for the same. In such a case he may proceed one step ahead of Mahatma Gandhi. God forbid, his contribution in this century as mentioned in the above line may one day make the next generation forget Mahatma Gandhi and only remember Rahul Gandhi.

It's disrespect to Mahatma Gandhi

Your website should be reported for showing disrespect to Mahatma Gandhi for even offering such a comparison for debate. It smacks of outright sycophancy.

Joke of the Century

Is it not very strange that in the matter before the Supreme Court, the Solicitor General stated that the High Power Committee for selection of CVC did not know that Kerala Government had sanctioned prosecution against PJ Thomas? As a matter of routine, whenever a prosecution is sanctioned against any All India Officer, the matter is required to be reported by the State Government to DoPT and it is duly recorded in the dossier of the Officer concerned. GoI was also a party before the SC when the Kerala Government's order was challenged in appeal and SC had granted ad interim injunction. GoI just can not turn round and say that the facts of this case were not known to GoI! This must be a joke of the century!!

In fact, the matter of pending prosecution against Mr Thomas must have been recorded by the State Government in his ACR also and must have come up before the Committee for Empanelment, which is chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, when Thomas was empanelled first as Additional Secretary and later as Secretary. Strangely enough, this did not come in the way of his empanelment. Quite routinely DoPT obtains information from the State Government about officers being considered for empanelment, which includes whether any departmental proceedings against the Officer were pending / contemplated as well as whether any prosecutions were pending / contemplated against the officer. It is impossible that Kerala Government failed to report the matter of pending prosecution against Thomas or DoPT failed to note the same in his dossier. It certainly was the political clout of Thomas that was responsible for his empanelment and also for the amnesia on the part of GoI at the time of his appointment as CVC.

I do not know the facts or merits of the case of pending prosecution against Mr Thomas and I would even go a step further to say that in all probability the sanction of prosecution was politically motivated. Still, so long as the matter was pending in the courts, it was wrong and improper to empanel him, much less to appoint him as CVC.

Sadness of Azim Premji on failure of Govt

Very shy in speaking, Azim Premji at the time of taking Padma reward has expressed his feelings saying that there is deficit in governance in India. Do you know the reason of this deficit? The criminal nexus of IAS and politicians. In fact, the IAS are enjoying the benefits of highest pay grades vis a vis other services and politicians are approving the discrimination, why? Because "Chor-Chor mausere bhai(two thieves are always cousins).

An honest judiciary can compel others to be in line

If tomorrow a politician decides to become honest overnight it will be very difficult for him as he has to fund so many expenses that he cannot do without corruption plus his mentor will stop patronising him. If a bureaucrat decides to be honest it is difficult for him as his bosses will harass him and his subordinates will not obey him. But if judiciary decides to be honest, nobody can prevent it. Plus an honest judiciary can often force politicians and bureaucrats to fall in line.

No Bharat Ratna to Sachin, as of now!

The GoI has shown farsightedness by withholding the award of Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar, as of now. Let us not spoil Sachin's career. Let him focus on his passion and play a natural game. He has earned billions through ads by playing cricket for the country and in the process, breaking several records. The question of Bharat Ratna or otherwise, should be considered only after he retires from cricket. Conferring Bharat Ratna at this stage is bound to affect his performance adversely due to psychological pressure. Let us not get emotional. The extent of contributions made by the former recipients of Bharat Ratna must be kept in mind and a holistic view taken in a transparent manner along with other nominations received by the GOI with full application of mind rather than heart. Let us not denigrate the Bharat Ratna by politicizing it. Conferring the Group Captain Sachin Tendulkar with the honorary degree of Doctorate in cricket will be more appropriate. I am an ardent Sachin fan and I do not intend to hurt the sentiments of other fans.

A K Saxena (A retired civil servant)

Should the present civil services setup be wound up ?

Given the sort of rampant loot which is pervading the civil services, one wonders, should the present civil services setup not just simply be wound up, and an alternative system, with far greater accountability be established? Look at the case of the IAS Joshi couple in Bhopal. Property worth hundreds of crores, cash, unaccounted wealth of a mind boggling nature. And they would never have been caught, were it not for the fact that Mrs Joshi clashed with another senior bureaucrat, because she was busy stealing money meant for panjiri for children. Its sickening. And what is worse is, that the IAS lobby in MP is trying to ensure that they are not prosecuted, effectively meaning that the others are also complicit in such stealing! This sort of civil 'disservice' should be finished. The UPSC exam has become nothing more than a license to loot the nation, and today's civil servants are nothing more than thieves and looters in disguise.

CSS' trick

RK Agrawal is right in bringing out games being played by CSS to keep power with them.

Sanjiv Singh

All I know of government today is that it values only corrupt or the one's who are ready to bend. The honest or the one's not ready to compromise are either sidelined or are victimized. Incase of honest IAS officers their is still some protection as the service is generally sensitive towards its own officers but if you happen to be an officer belonging to non-political services then you will have it in system. It is a terrible feeling to be straight person in government today and after my personal experience I would never advise my wards to work for government. Sick in the system but surviving for rozi roti.

About CSS

This is with reference to the commendation garlands offered by Rajeeva and Pulipra to CSS. No doubt CSS is playing vital role but only in manipulating things to their advantage at various levels, wherever possible for them. This is visible from recent examples of DOPT's interpretations of various directions of 6CPC which are very conveniently being misinterpreted by lower functionaries just to tilt the language in their favour. If the CSS is so honest then after 64 years of independence why things are still moving at snail's pace in central secretariat
