Have Cong men who jumped to defend Vadra helped masses ?
P Chidambaram, Veerappa Moily, Kapil Sibal, Jayanthi Natrajan, Manish Tewari, Rashid Alvi, even HR Bhardwaj, currently the Governor of Karnataka, and a former law minister also came to the indirect defence of Robert Vadra (even though governors were meant to be above politics and political parties) .

Is there a power scam waiting to unfold in Maharashtra ?
It is heard that there is a scam of Power department waiting to unfold in Maharashtra. A power tussle is taking place among the bureaucrats who claim to have `cracked' the system as against those who have been sidelined much of this also has to do with the politics of Congress versus its alliance partner NCP. Many names in politics and bureaucracy could come to light pertaining to power purchase, fuel purchase, equipment purchase and operational inefficiencies that could be deliberate. Will CM Prithiviraj Chavan take a serious note of the once profit making sector and get to the root of the things in days to come?

Here is a basic fib by M/s Sky Light Hospitality
The memorandum of association of Vadra's Sky Light Hospitality claims that the company will carry out the business as hotels, restaurants, lodges, ice-cream merchants, sweet meat merchants, milk manufactures, bakers, wine and spirit merchants, etc. But instead of doing all that Sky Light Hospitality primarily seems to
be in the business of real estate.

Who is new star of Karnataka BJP ?
It is heard that Dharmendra Pradhan is the new rising star of the Karnataka BJP.

Is DMK arm twisting UPA over raising Urea prices ?
Union Fertiliser Minister Alagiri is arm twisting the centre to bail him out first before he will agree to cooperate with the reforms agenda of raising Urea prices. Alagiri wants that non bailable warrant that is issued against his son Durai Dayanidhi who is absconding in a multi-crore illegal multi crore granite scam in Tamil Nadu - is quashed. Will the UPA oblige?

Stand of an IRS officer vindicated

The phrase 'forensic accounting' has become a part of the lexicon today. The pioneer of this India, an officer of IRS posted in Ministry of Finance in late 1990's stands vindicated since the Govtin 2000-2001 sent him on leave saying "what is this nonsense'' This after a number of industrial groups were caught skimming of money in the garb of sundry debtors and loans and advances, so much so that RBI was compelled to issue directions to banks not to permit loans at a rate of interest lower than at which Corporates borrow from banks. It's another matter that the instruction was withdrawn in 2002. If the instruction had been allowed to stand the entire financial mess and allegations of corporate misdemeanours would be a thing of the past.

Persistent problem

Subjectivity in APARs seems to be a persistent problem to do away with the careers of some outstanding officers. In a recent case, an officer was serially getting outstanding/ very good. But suddenly the officer was given good in the previous year, which is considered unacceptable for promotions to HAG etc. This happened mainly due to earlier shoulder rubbing in official matters with the reporting as well as accepting officials. I will appreciate if some knowledgeable senior officer throws light as to how such cases are dealt in DPC? What are the options with the officer to challenge this situation, including bringing the matter into notice of DOPT, CabSec etc. ?

Reduce number of IAS officers

Frequently you are giving news about the shortage of IAS officers in the states. Cadre strength has been unnecessarily inflated for the officers to get promotion. Many IAS officers are enjoying life without doing substantial work "Zombies". Country is already burdened by the existing IAS officers. There should be an independent assessment by a professional agency to ascertain the real number of IAS officers needed and cost to Government in maintaining an IAS officer (Not salary alone). There should be drastic reduction in the number of IAS officers to increase the efficiency of the system and reduce corruption. Pl. don't spread the wrong impression about shortage of IAS officers.

Switch over to officer pattern
One way to increase efficiency of output is to switch over to officer pattern of functioning. Each Officer be provided specific items of work following SIU norms, complete monthly assignment in addition to the sudden work that springs up. Services of a Stenographer, a clerk and 1/2 Peon and 1/2 Daftry be provided so that record management does not suffer. Provision of leave reserve would be a must.

Incredible Nation

(Excerpts from Mr Khushwant Singh's write up in HT/Delhi/15-10-12)

"When Clement Attlee, Prime Minister of England, introduced the Indian Independence Bill in 1947 and it was being debated in British Parliament, Sir Winston Churchill, the war time Prime Minister of England, had angrily remarked : 'Power will go into the hands of rascals, rogues, and free-booters. All Indian leaders will be of low caliber and men of straw. They will have sweet tongues and silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for power and India will be lost in political squabbles. Not a bottle of water or loaf of bread shall escape taxation; only the air will be free and the blood of these hungry millions will on the head of Attlee."

We are indeed an incredible Nation; we have really worked very hard and proved Sir Churchill's forecast Absolutely Right.
