RTI is helping the likes of Kejriwal, while NREGs does not find mention because it has benefited the people who are in the actual implementation says an NAC member. Bureaucrats have nothing to lose
It's time to rephrase the words of a famous thinker and say: "Bureaucrats of India Unite! You have nothing to lose, but your chains!"

Indian civil servants, especially those who consider their vocation to be a 'service', have remained caught in Prisoner's Dilemma for long. Since they do not know how much the inmate in the adjoining cell has revealed, they prefer to keep their mouth shut. This isn't going to work.

The good news is that there are too many Ashok Khemkas in Indian bureaucracy. But most rest content with leading a trouble-free life, even though many of them know everything about shady and illegal deals struck by politicians and others. Indian society and polity is passing through an interesting phase.

Every other day, something or the other tumbles out from the darkest cupboards of Delhi and other state capitals. Fortunately, the majority in the media today also supports those who are removing the lids of one-too-many cans of worms.

It is time bureaucrats join the process of blowing the whistle on the mighty and the powerful. Once the process starts, there would be no end to the best-kept hoary-gory secrets coming out in the open. This is an opportunity no Indian bureaucrat should let go of. This is a time when the civil servants should live up to the vow of serving the people and upholding the Indian Constitution in letter and in spirit.

We need Manmohan Singh of 1991

India does not need a PM of 1991 vintage to ruin the country further. We want to get rid of him and the puppeteers behind him.
