Frauds in Public Sector Banks
During first six months of the current financial year more than 1700
fraud cases involving over Rs. 5200 crore have been detected in the
Public Sector Banks. No doubt, this is definitely a alarming situation
but it is also a fact that History has repeated itself. The Securities
scam of 1992 would not have taken place if the PSU and private banks
had no close relations with Late Harshad Mehta.

Reservation be available only to needy
One may not contest the view that an SC/ST candidate who gets admission
to a medical college and passes out successfully after hard study and
undergoing practical training is not lesser competent to his general
category counterpart. But is his inclusion and the exclusion of another
who secured far higher position in the merit list justified in any way
in the first instance after 60 years reservation policy has been in
place? Further, the argument of the author of this contribution is certainly
not applicable to Civil Services and academic positions and many other
fields where there is no on- the- job training like doctors before final
recruitment to the post. Caste discrimination practiced and injustice
done in the past is highly condemnable. But there is discrimination
today against the so called upper caste young boys and girls seeking
jobs and admissions. The only difference between the two discriminations
is that the former was totally unjustified and illegal and now it is
legal and thanks to our power hungry and blind politicians whose actions
is not only dividing the society but sowing the seeds of civil conflict.
I am not against reservations but the policy needs review. It should
be available only to needy in the SCs and STs and should be given for
one generation only. For promotions it should not be given at all.
