Are the movie stars tears a hogwash ?

The talk in the political circles is that Jaya Bacchan's tears for the 23 year old girl are a hogwash, she represents a party that has the maximum number of MP's and MLA's who have rape and murder charges against them. Besides a lot is being blamed on Bollywood that shows rape in its cinema and thereby poisons societies mindset.

Why is the government avoiding a joint session of Parliament ?

The government is avoiding a joint session of parliament purely because most of its or its coalition partners MP's have rape and murder charges against them and holding a session will put most of its elected representatives in the docks at a time when elections are just nearing. This the government feels will also add a different debate and dimension to the women voters who can make and mar elections in key constituencies.

How US deals with fiscal cliff gets critical
The next 36 hours are important over how US deals with the fiscal cliff. The consensus or lack of it on taxes and government spending will have a big impact on whether US gets pulled out of recession or slips again into one. Economy watchers, bankers and mandarins of North Block are keenly watching what happens next so that policy action can be formulated accordingly. Impact will surely be felt on currency, gold prices and in the commodity prices like oil.

China and India

Some three days ago, the speed train put in place by Chinese authorities was reported in last pages of Indian Media. Its an incredible achievement to hear the human accomplishment of reducing travel time from 22 hrs to 8 hrs. Such a massive project deserved all appreciation comparing the present mindset sweeping our country. Indian bureaucracy and political decision makers dare not take up these kind of projects which ultimately end up being called scams by audits and vigilance. We take pride in competing for promotions and postings with absolutely no accountability for performance. The political masters are also find it convenient to extend the politics in playing one IAS against another IAS for postings. The policy requires to be tinkered in advertising all the posts of Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, Joint Secretaries and equivalent posts to invite applications from interested civil servants and appoint them by selection. As long as old archaic administrative system continue every Indian should be happy with freshly made old designs of Railways doing a speed of 50KMPH against 300KMPH achieved by the Chinese. The mute question for this decade would be whether Indian speed will be getting enhanced by the turn of 2020!

Scientists being pushed behind

It is not surprising. A scientist joins as group A officer is forced to retire at PB 4 with GP 8700 that too after facing the selection process for promotion at every level. All group A officers automatically reach to the GP 10000 within 20 years and have opportunity to attain higher levels also while scientists are being pushed behind for one reason or other.

Pradeep Chand Pant

Misusing govt land !

There is large scale unauthorised construction and grabbing of government land and making slums in almost all cities including metros which result in criminal activities in the area. All this takes place with the help of local petty leaders and local police who encourage these activities for extorting money etc. from them. Politicians use them as vote bank. Executives/Babus also do not take interest in removing them for the reasons best known to them. Judiciary also help them on the ground of human rights etc. As this site is used by highly educated persons, I would like to know the solution to this problem from them. Large part of Delhi is government land/property which was given on lease to persons who migrated from Pakistan or to workers in labour colonies. They have converted the whole area into slums by converting one/two room sets into multistorey buildings and selling the same to buyers at exorbitantly high rate and thereby cheating them. Why Government is not taking steps to redevelop such areas which was given on lease on compassionate ground which is being converted by such people, who were shown compassion, into slum by violating terms and conditions of lease.
