Vedanta launches India's first Medical SUPER
30 Centre for underprivileged students
Vedanta through its foundation has launched India's first Medical SUPER
30 centre in Jaipur. The programme is also India's first SUPER 30 all-girl
centre, which aims to provide specialized coaching to talented students
from underprivileged families who aspire to pursue MBBS. In addition,
the first batch of the Vedanta SUPER 30 centre for IIT aspirants from
Rajasthan was also inaugurated. The engineering coaching programme is
open to both boys and girls. Both programmes will provide 10-month free
residential coaching to the 60 students. The students, who come from
all parts of Rajasthan, are mostly children of marginal farmers or daily-wage
earners. They were selected to the course through a written exam and
interview process that saw 900 applicants in total. Speaking about the
launch of the Jaipur centre, Abhayanand, DGP Bihar Police & Founder
of SUPER 30 Concept said, "The idea behind SUPER 30 was to help
the talented underprivileged students to keep them in a group for about
a year and guide them how to crack the toughest entrance test. The highest
level of talent also does not flower on its own and needs support thus
this initiative is a boon for those who can't afford private coaching
and at the same time need personal attention of the tutors. It makes
me happy that Vedanta is expanding the concept of Super 30 in Rajasthan."
Ravi Krishnan, CEO Vedanta Foundation said, "Our holistic approach
towards education aims at nurturing talent. Vedanta's SUPER 30 centres
will enable underprivileged students fulfill their dreams of securing
admission to engineering or MBBS studies in India's premier institutes.
We are proud to launch India's first Medical SUPER 30 and also the first
all women SUPER 30 centre." Vedanta Foundation has associated with
the Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL) to establish
SUPER 30 centres across India. Vedanta's first SUPER 30 centre was recently
launched in Mumbai.

Members of PSU Boards be given Ex-officio rank of Secretary to
GoI
Amit wrote "All members of Maharatna PSU Boards should be given
Ex- officio rank of Secretary to GoI, just like the members of Railway
Board."
The Managing Director should be Cabinet Secretary rank and Chairman
should be equal to Prime Minister. This thinking in PSUs is main reason
for their decline. Greed overcomes the rational thought. Most of the
Maharatnas are govt. controlled monopolies and would sink the day their
fields are opened to competition. See MTNL, BSNL, Air India etc.

Railways have their own budget
Railways have their own budget which is laid in Lok Sabha prior to the
Union Budget. Railways is a Central Subject and the officials in it
are recruited through the examination of the UPSC. Only rail network
needs to exist in a country necessarily. If competition is allowed in
this area, then we will have lines over lines in the country.

Retired bureaucrats should abstain from airing views on electronic
media
The government should prohibit retired IAS and IPS officers from airing
their views on the electronic media. Recently I saw the sorry spectacle
of a young Nidhi Razdan on NDTV address a former Governor and a former
Central Information Commissioner as Babus. This is a disgrace. The pathetic
participants did not have the guts to protest at being insulted in this
way. This is also an insult to the government. The feature was about
appointment of retired IAS and IPS officers to the posts of governors
etc. NDTV expects that TV anchors should be posted as governors of states!
The Neera Radia tapes revealed exactly which TV journalist received
how much money from Neera Radia, so how can these hapenny tupenny journalists
sit in judgement on the actions of the government? Retired IAS and IPS
officers especially should not be allowed to appear on TV shows and
make a fool of themselves by appearing on such programmes meant only
at bashing the IAS and IPS. They should resist the temptation of 2 minutes
glory on TV and throw away their dignity and self respect in the bargain.
If they cannot resist the temptation then it would be better if they
appear for a well know brand of toothpaste and bear their 32 gleaming
teeth instead of revealing government secrets. Just as conduct rules
prohibit IAS and IPS officers from speaking to the Press while in service
the same rule should be extended beyond retirement too.

BSF officers - the most demoralized lot
BSF officers are demoralized especially the deputy commandant level
officer, stagnation and disparity of pay n perks in comparison with
civil/army officer. BSF is deployed in hardest of the area but is never
treated as army........n when comes to pay n perks even less then civil
officer........ I read somewhere...some related piece.. Quote "..Then
Kautilya, known also as Chanakya gave his king this blunt warning: "The
day the soldier has to demand his dues will be a
sad day for Magadha for then, on that day, you will have lost all moral
sanction to be King!"
If the Indian state has been reduced to this condition, its people
don't deserve to be defended by soldiers willing to lay their lives
down for the country. Why fight and defend a government and a people
who don't care for them?" Unquote.......r we heading towards this
anarchy.....

Appointed for what ?
General Insurance Public Sector Association (GIPSA) was an agency created
by GoI in MOF to strengthen PSU Insurance Cos. The last one year has
seen this institution hiring 4 CEO/GM level officers, who have been
appointed in an arbitrary fashion and without any full justification
of what they will do..

Disclosure of reasons for not empanelling an officer under RTI
The appellant sought the reasons for being left out in the empanelment
list of IPS Officers by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for the year
1994-95 while all his APRs were outstanding. The PIO informed that as
per DoPT's O.M. No. 1/7/2009-IR dated 1.6.2009, the information sought
in the RTI application cannot be classified as 'information' and the
same cannot be provided. The appellant argued before the Central Information
Commission (CIC) that whereas his juniors have been empanelled and,
therefore, he should be provided the reasons for being left out from
empanelment list when all his APRs are 'Outstanding'. The CIC noted
the admission of the respondent that the decision for promotion of IPS
Officers is taken in the meeting of the CPEB. Observing that the meetings
of the CPEB are a matter of official record, the CIC ruled that what
has been sought by the appellant is covered under the definition of
'information' as per section 2(f) of the RTI Act. The Commission directed
the PIO to provide the reasons, as per record, whereby decision was
taken to leave out the appellant in the empanelment list of IPS Officers
for the year 1994-95.
Comments
This decision of the CIC is likely to bring in transparency in the
process of empanelment..
