Hospitals converted to commercial enterprises
Before pleading the case of private hospitals, the CGHS beneficiaries
should have tried to know the facts of the case. These so called private
hospitals had got land for construction of hospitals from the Government
for peanuts at prime places with the promise that they will treat the
poor patients and attend the exigency of specialist treatments of Government
employees. They also got water and electricity on priority basis. Medical
profession is a noble profession. These hospitals got themselves converted
into a real form of commercial enterprises in order to earn money on
equipments & medicines at substantially enhanced rates. Also in
order to pay handsome salaries to the Doctors (a number of them who
had been brought up and bread at government account) and also for satiating
the needs of the trained nurses (who had also been brought and bread
up with government money). The other services in these hospitals are
being run on outsourcing basis. These hospitals were empanelled mainly
for 'cardiac diseases'. For all medical activities relating to cardiac
disease they were charging CGHS approved rates. They have now insisting
that the during the treatment of heart disease, they would be charging
for allied medical treatments at market rates. This was not acceptable
to the CGHS, hence the problem. The private hospitals of the country
should realize that 'privatization phenomena not a solution to all the
ills. Even President Obama is now talking about more public expenditure
on social sector projects. The revenue for this is going to be harnessed
through increasing the tax base of the country i.e. getting tax from
the property dealers, service sector and judicial sector/medical sector
wherein a lot of black money change hands without any record. The Government
is in the process of setting up of 6 AIIMS (world class super specialty
hospitals) across the country. The existing ones are being expanded
and modernized. The States/UTs are also constructing new hospitals.
The Government has started increasing expenditure on health sector on
an incremental and rapid pace. The doctors who are working in private
hospitals have
started feeling that they are being treated as a domestic servants of
their owners. People in the country have started reverting back to Government
hospitals these days because they know that the doctors in Government
hospitals are more aware of the latest developments as they are required
to take classes in the medical colleges attached to the hospital.

Hardships undergone by Dr Ambedkar
The details given by the writer are very impressive and the hardships
undergone by Dr Ambedkar during those times, which unfortunately exist
even today in India though in a concealed manner but some time glaringly
in open, were heart ranching but at the same time inspirations to all
of us. There are so much written about it but still we are not able
to eradicate this social menace. The problem is when someone suggests
solution there are counter suggestions/opinions, reactions and finally
we end up fighting with each other to justify our egos that what we
think is the best solution. Why there is no concerted efforts on the
part of role models to open support it and fight it out so that citizens
of India follow them especially in villages.
