Ambedkar further said 'hindi translation by kureel.... "poona pact ek aise santra hai jiska juice gandhiji pee gaye hain... chhilka daliton ko mila hai". In Ambedkar's on voice on BBC he answers 'since Gandhiji was not listening even to his own party men and was stubborn on fast until death, Gandhiji back of his mind was sure that separate electorates will give political power and rule to Dalits and general castes cannot any more rule them in independent India. He further says in his interview o save this old man's life, I came out with a suggestion on general electorates (on BBC). When Gandhiji went on fast unto death against separate electorates -reservations for Dalits, Ambedkar said "Mahatmas have come and Mahatmas have gone, but untouchables have remained untouchables". However, due to repeated threats of attack on his community in case Gandhi dies protesting against Dalit demands of separate electorates - reservations, Ambedkar came out with suggestion on general electorates, again Gandhiji was not happy for power to Dalits the way Dalit wanted it to be and the way they had won their political rights in Communal Award, Gandhiji said, I accept this award for all communities but not for Dalits. Dalit writings say, Gandhiji went on fasts around 21 times in his lifetime for political reasons but not even once fast unto death for abolition of casteism or abolition of untouchability. The only fast concerning Dalits he went on was also totally against Dalits i.e. to destroy separate electorate, a right won by Dalits for long battle for social and political rights from the then government. When Ambedkar came out after signing Poona Pact, he apologised to the Dalits explaining if Gandhi had died there would a situation like holocaust as Gandhi enjoyed status like Jesus among his followers and millions of Dalits will face their wrath. History cannot forget that life of Gandhiji was saved by Ambedkar in Yervada Jail by bringing in general electorates in place of separate electorates. An action which Ambedkar always regretted but he made sacrifice for life of Gandhiji knowing full well that provisions on general electorates were not so much in favour of Dalits. (ii) Ambedkar did not ask for ministership from any one, he had no love for ministership, he resigned for the post of Law Minister on difference with PM on Hindu Code Bill and was happily seated in Opposition Benches. Neither did he ever join Congress. He headed his own political party with a strong base in Maharashtra. His legal acumen and experience made Nehruji to offer Law Minister's post. Singh R K
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in an effort to please his minority vote bank in Bihar, is saying things which tantamount to nothing else than political rhetoric of minority appeasement. He keeps implying that since the Godhra riots in Gujarat happened on Narendra Modi's watch, he is an anti-Muslim leader...Nitish Kumar, in order to consolidate his minority vote bank in Bihar keeps saying and doing things to appease the Muslims...Does it make Nitish Kumar anti-Hindu? I very strongly feel that Muslims are as much a part of India as Hindus...It is the duty of our leaders to work with them to take care of their issues in the same manner they would take care of the Hindus. The Muslim leaders should also question Nitish if he "Unki topi pehan kar Muslim community ko topi pehnanen ki koshish to nahi kar rahen hain?" Punyatma Sharan BA (INDIA) - MBA (USA) Opportunity to All When the source is the same, there should be love and harmony among the various Services. Every Service must get fair and just treatment. Difference in ranking/marks in civil services examination for IAS and non- IAS is minimal these days and therefore, superiority of IAS in every Department should avoided. The disparity in Pay scale and deputations should go for smooth and efficient running of Government machinery. It is really painful that empanelment and further posting in JS and above posts has become very tough for Non-IAS. The Non-IAS must get due participation in Government machinery and that is in overall interest of the country. Y Mishra |
