OVL, wholly-owned subsidiary of ONGC, has announced that it has priced an inaugural US$800 million dual-tranche USD senior unsecured bond offering (the Issue"). D K Sarraf, Managing Director of OVL, said, "We are delighted with the strong interest shown by top global investors in OVL's inaugural bond issue. Consequences of hanging not analysed by govt

It appears consequences of hanging Ajmal Kasab and Afjal Guru before securing the release of Sarbjeet Singh were not analysed by the government or may be scam ridden government was in such a desperation to improve its image by hanging the two that fate of Sarbjeet Singh was hardly of any consequence.

Caste is not unique to the Hindus

Caste is not unique to the Hindus. In the subcontinent, even Muslims and Christians have caste. Dalit Muslims and Dalit Christians are a fact of life not only in India but even in Pakistan. caste inequality and oppression have been outlawed in India and rightly so. Hindu society has reformed itself over two centuries starting from the renaissance through the freedom movement and post independent, modern India. Slowly, the phenomenon of caste was fading. However, with mandalisation, caste came back with a bang, and today, it is almost the only reality of India. This time it is not the inequality but the reservation opportunities that come with it caste consciousness that is driving the race to "backwardism". Every community is laying claim to being more and more "backward" to reap the benefits of reservation. Everybody is claiming "caste oppression" despite the equality that is not only enshrined in the Constitution and law, but also practised in modern India. Let us not forget that Babasaheb Ambedkar's wife as also Babu Jagjivan Ram's wife were Brahmins.

Casteism is a curse

Casteism is a curse for this country. No body should support this. India is getting urbanised very fast and in the urban areas casteism has disappeared to a great extent. In the villages also, this criminal practice is not so acute now. But in my humble view reservation in jobs for them particularly giving benefit to successive generations of one family is not the solution. Reservations have no doubt uplifted the SCs which no one should grudge. But there are SCs, etc. who have not got this benefit. Give it them so that they can come on equal platform. Only economically strong can fight against social and other injustices. Give economic strength to whose among SCs STs who are poor.

Yatha Rajaa Thatha Prajaa

I wish to inform my friend (Yatha Rajaa Thatha Prajaa) that the Madras Chit Fund Act 1961 is the fore-runner for formulation of all rules and regulations in regard to conduct of Chit Fund Activities. Most of them were really doing well and serving the down-trodden and needy. It was only after the entry of film-wallas and politicians that this noble profession became notorious. Hundreds of poor families in 60s and 70s got benefitted by Chit Funds. There is ample provision in the Rules
for safeguarding the interest of small time depositors.

Merger of CSSS with CSS

The Sixth CPC had recommended merger of CSSS with CSS and the Government had accepted this recommendation in view of the ongoing acute stagnation in CSSS cadre. Before recommending, Sixth CPC must have considered all the factors and in the interest of both the community it is the best solution to the ongoing acute stagnation. Merger was also suggested with a view to make optimum use of CSSS officials who are not able to contribute much owing to the given nature of duties. If the merger is allowed, stenographers will be motivated to get themselves involved in the main stream of official work. In other words, their jobs may not be confined to only stenography work and attending telephone calls provided their jobs are suitably modified. In return, stenographers will get better treatment in terms of promotional avenues, parity from top to bottom in all respects.
