Merge BSNL & MTNL in DoT
The Department of Telecom's decision on repatriation of about 1600 officers of the Indian Telecom Service (ITS) and some Indian P&T Accounts and Finance Service, Group-'A' officers from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) is bad from the public interest point of view. This may be called a foolish decision taken by DOT. This has badly hit the working of both the PSUs. Balance sheets of these PSUs have already gone in red after the earlier repatriation decision taken in October, 2005. To utilise the experienced manpower, it would be better to merge the MTNL and BSNL in DoT. Let there be one government player in addition to private players in the operations of Telecom services. Hope Ministry of Communication would take the positive steps further in public interest.

"India is a giant paradox !"
We are living in a land of contradictions. This has caused us depression, insomnia et al. The Indians need an anti-Stress pill every day. Consider the following sample of events:--
(a) Pakistan PM Ashraf visits India , Ajmer Sharif Dargah chief boycotts him and India's Foreign Minister hosts a lunch for him
(b) BJP predicts early parliamentary polls stating that the UPA may collapse any time ; the Congress assures a full term of " bad" governance
(c) NIA sought custody of Hizbul terrorist Liaqat Shah due to contradictions in claims of Delhi Police and Jammu and Kashmir Police
(d) Mulayam Singh praises Advani, SP general secretary Azam Khan calls Advani a "politician with weak values"
(e)DMK aligns with its arch enemy AIADMK on Sri Lankan Tamils against Congress that helped SL army with IPKF during Rajiv Gandh's regime
(f) SP and its adversary BSP support Congress-led UPA for common return gifts ie protection from raids;
(g)While, PM claims growth slump to be temporary, its growth rate has been showing a continuous downward trend , inflation rate rising exponentially and disparity between the rich and the poor increasing.

Massive source of corruption & exploitation
Outsourcing, recruitment of personnel at clerical and other group C and D staff by almost all the ministries and organization has become a massive source of corruption and exploitation of our young boys and girls. The agency/agencies nominated for such recruitment select boys and girls for these posts by taking bribes. One month's salary is usually the norm. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation which has won well-deserved laurels otherwise is also guilty of such malpractices. They have two outside agencies to recruit boys and girls for some routine jobs like issue of tickets. Before offering the job which is on daily rate basis the contractor takes a refundable security deposit of Rs. 2000 and some sum for uniform. Before the youngster completes full one year his/her services are terminated. In comes the other contractor. Now he collects the security deposit, which is enhanced every year, and sum for uniform and employs him or her at some station. A few months into the job and before the year is complete the young man or woman is shown the door. It is now turn of the other contractor to make the fresh recruitment. Apart from collection of several charges the agent also deducts the provident fund from the dues of the employees every month.(I wonder how from daily rated staff PF is deducted).while discharging the employees their deducted Provident Fund never gets paid. I am also told by authentic sources that bribe also gets paid for getting this daily rated job. I do not know whether DMRC management is aware of this exploitation of young people and malpractices by their two contractors viz. Bedi &Bedi and Track maybe in cohoots with their concerned officials. In order to keep the number of staff low why should they resort to such 'cheating' of our young boys and girls. Are Ministry Of Urban development and Delhi Administration aware of this racket? Since ticket issuing etc. is the permanent feature of Metro operations why not recruit persons on permanent basis. Those who have already worked in this position for over a year should be placed on permanent basis thus ending this unsavoury practice. CMD DMRC must take action before any trade union gets wind of this exploitation.
