Need to prune our staff in missions

I totally agree that there is an urgent need to cut the staff in all our missions abroad by at least sixty percent. To begin with repatriate all customs police revenue officials who have no work except to receive their bosses or pursue shopping. The country can save valuable foreign exchange. The mea budget needs to be pruned. The cabinet sect should play a more active role by pruning the foreign tours of all officials. Cabinet Secretary should appoint a committee and review the staff sanctioned and most of them have no work .

IFS - not a bed of roses

With increasing role of India in world affairs and economic prowess of India, it is unwise suggestion to cut short in Indian Missions' staff strength. Indian Foreign Service is already understaffed to cope up pressures of work. Even the smallest countries have much more diplomats than our huge country. A country which have small army cannot defend security interest, the same way a country which has few diplomats cannot defend its country's business, bilateral and strategic interests abroad. It is undermining national interests to suggest reduction of staff abroad and reduction of perks. Foreign Service is not bed of roses, ask those who are posted in conflicted areas such as Afghanistan and parts of Africa where wars are going on for decades. Many Diplomats have sacrificed their lives on duty abroad.

It is really strange !

A complete rout of the party ruling in the centre and no statement from the PM, as if he is weighing options to change sides after 2014 elections.

UPSC behaves like a Leviathan

There is no accountability. It behaves arbitrarily in DPC, downgrading same ACR, in next DPC, concurring the same ,i.e grading. There is no audit of its functioning, it being a constitutional authority. This demoralises a number of government servants. It is revealed through RTI that its functioning is arbitrary, inconsistent and discretionary, contrary to Articles 14 and 16 of Constitution.. Its functioning is called into question only in judicial review.

Amiya

UPSC not to be blamed

Select List and DPC are delayed not on account of UPSC. The Courts of this country are responsible for the same. They give stays and the cases keep on pending for long time. As a result, the smooth conduct of DPC meetings and finalization of select lists get delayed. The Court should allow the select lists to operate with riders as in the ad-hoc promotions. It is inhuman to frustrate the employees who are toiling hard.
