Which service is a bed of roses ?

Foreign Service is not a bed of roses. Which service is? The lavish residence of most Ambassadors belies Per Capita Income of the country they represent. Do postings of police officers in J&K or other strife affected parts in India give them a chance to have such a life style as most Foreign Service officers have ?

M S Arora

Indian Foreign Service and Devyani

No doubt, an Unfortunate saga. A better Precept: A Stich in Time, Saves Nine. It was not at all a foreign policy matter. It was a normal administrative matter which should have been sorted out in the months of September/ October 2013 before the unacceptable and unfortunate incident of Devyani's arrest and search. Devyani could have been shifted to our UN Mission or the Embassy much earlier. Now, hasty decisions might boomerang ! Testing time seldom happens for IFS administrators!

Always a vacancy !

In a justice system where decision on face value is rule and merit an exception (exceptions apart) there will always be a vacancy.

Should the 25% account holder be provided the bank account details?

The appellant's request for the details of a bank account was denied by the PIO referring to the appellant as the 'third party'. The appellant claimed that the denial was not correct as he had sought information regarding an entity in which he is a 25% share holder and a director. The appellant sought information about certain balance sheet, insurance charges, cash credit limits and information about the alleged misappropriation. The respondent bank stated that the bank had denied the information to the appellant as it seems that there is a family dispute and that the appellant is a brother of the person who is running the entity. The respondent stated that they have no intention to withhold any information, but are awaiting an authority letter from the company in favour of the appellant to provide the information. The CIC directed the respondent to provide the information to the appellant within 30 days on the condition of receipt of the requisite letter of authority.

Comments

The details of bank account are personal information and are held by the bank in fiduciary capacity. Even a 25 % account holder is not eligible to get the information unless approved by the account holder.
