Did intelligence input help government over Guru's hanging?
The Centre had obtained detailed reports from intelligence agencies about the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The agencies gave their thumbs-up that no large-scale uprising was feared at this point of time as mountain passes in Kashmir will remain closed at least till April. So that means that Pakistan would have little opportunity in infiltrating a fresh batch of terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir for reprisal attacks.

Did Shinde's Hindu terror statement have a design ?
There was a sinister design in the statement made by Sushil Kumar Shinde on January 20, about 'Hindu Terror'. It was just the day before he recommended to the President that Guru's mercy petition be dismissed say inside sources.

Is this an effort of Congress to woo urban votes ?
The hangings are an effort to woo the urban middle class Hindu vote that may be veering towards Modi, even though it could shift some Muslim votes away from Congress, possibly to regional parties. The Congress has realized that it has completely lost the faith of the urban middle class and that the hanging will appease them and dim the criticism of Congress being soft on terror issues as claimed by the rival opposition.

Will political tactic change now ?
As yet Congress would focus on the aam aadmi and wooing the minorities, while the BJP would focus on terror and development. But now the political debate will change and the BJP candidate will talk about development and not terror, and the Congress talking anti-terror and not development. The next election debate will not focus entirely on the economic performance of the UPA, but on harder political issues.

Are onion prices adding to UPA's woes?
The abnormal rise in prices of onions could be a tearjerker for the UPA government which is reeling under the weight of abnormally high inflation. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be sure to use rising prices against the Congress party-led government in the campaigns. In 1998, the BJP suffered heavy losses in a key state poll, a result widely blamed on high onion prices.

It's all women world in CBEC
The glass ceiling has been broken with the 'women power' all prevalent in the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), the highest policy-making body on indirect taxes.

The CBEC Chairperson Praveen Mahajan, a 1976 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer who has the rank of Special Secretary, is a post-graduate in History and English. With over 36 years experience, she is also the first from her gender on this coveted post.

For the first time since its constitution, on January 1, 1964, if the Chairperson of the CBEC is now a woman officer, what comes as an even bigger surprise for the 'male world' is that all her colleagues on the board are also women.

Ms Sheila Sangwan, currently Member (Budget) in the CBEC, is an officer of the 1976 batch of the IRS (C&CE). An alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Washington, she is also a Law Graduate from University of Delhi and a Humphrey fellow. Ms Sangwan is a post-graduate, and holds MBA and LLB degrees too. A keen Golfer, Ms Sangwan has won a number of amateur tournaments and she is recipient of the Presidential Award for Specially Distinguished Record
of Service.

Ms J M Shanti Sundharam, currently Member (L&J) in the CBEC, is from 1977 batch of the IRS (C&CE). Prior to joining the board as Member on November 29, 2011, she was Director General, Human Resource Development, Delhi and Chief Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) at Chennai. She has a Masters degree in English Literature and Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from Indian Institute of Public Administration. She has also served as ADG, DRI and Assistant Director General with C E I B.,

Ms Sandhya Baliga, currently Member-(L&J), is a 1976 Batch IRS (Customs & Central Excise) officer who joined CBEC as Member on August 02, 2012. At the time of appointment as Member, CBEC, she was holding the charge of Director General, HRD, Customs and Central Excise, New Delhi. A post-graduate and M Phil In Public Administration, Ms Baliga joined the Department on November 05, 1976. She has worked on various important positions including Commissioner (Appeals) Pune,Commissioner Customs Shillong and Chief Commissioner, Customs & Central Excise, Mysore.

Ms Shobha L Chary, currently Member, (P&V) in the CBEC, is a 1977 batch IRS (Customs & Central Excise) officer who joined CBEC as Member on August 13, 2012. At the time of appointment as Member, CBEC, she was holding the charge of Chief Commissioner, Customs, Mumbai-I. Ms Chary who joined the department on November 7, 1977 has served in various capacities in the field formation of Customs and Central Excise, besides being an Under Secretary in the Board. She waspromoted as Chief Commissioner in December 2009.

Mrs Lipika Majumdar Roy Choudhury, who was Chief Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Ahmedabad, before taking over the charge of Member (Service Tax) in CBEC is looking after the charge of Chief Commissioner, CX, Bhubaneswar, Chief Commissioner, CX, Kolkata, Chief Commissioner, Customs, Kolkata, Chief Commissioner, CX, Ranchi (HQ. at Patna), Chief Commissioner, Customs (P), Patna, Chief Commissioner, CX, Shillong and DG (Service Tax).

Bureaucracy hand in gloves with politicians

Khemka who is responsible for exposing various deals of Vadra in Haryana is being hounded by vested interests with help of the government, the bureaucracy and the politicians in power. Instead of helping him and standing solidly beside him, it is sad and shocking that the IAS fraternity is spinelessly sitting like a mute spectator and Infact, pleasing the politicians to curry favors for themselves.

Similar is the case with IRS. No one seems to be turning a whistle-blower and helping their former colleague Kejriwal to expose corruption in government. This shows that bureaucracy is really hands in glove and equal partners with the politicians in the loot of the country.

Shame on them.

BJP itself would scuttle Modi's chances as PM !

If anyone thinks that Narendra Modi is going to be the next PM, he is in a fool's paradise. Though he is the fit man to lead the nation, BJP itself will act against him. That is why they brought in a village pramukh level leader and arch politician like Rajnath Singh as their National President, though under him as BJP State President, BJP came a cropper in UP in 2002 and as BJP National President, lost the Parliamentary elections in 2004.In case BJP wins the elections with the charisma of Narendra Modi , Singh will first instigate Sushma Swaraj and Jaitley and offer himself as a compromise candidate. If that fails they will all join together and instigate Yadavs of JD(U).If all these fail, there is that Mulayam Singh (with all those corruption chargespending against him) who has handed over the state to his son and waiting in the wings. God save this nation.

Plight of CGHS beneficiaries

CGHS beneficiaries are being deprived of taking treatment in good hospitals of Delhi due to wrong and impractical decisions. Hospitals like Escorts, Okhla, Ganga Ram, Batra, Max Saket, Orthonova and so many others have drawn from CGHS empanelment. Why they have withdrawn is very clear that the treatment cost is high and Govt. reimburses lower amount. Ministry of Health and family welfare should work out a amicable solution so that CGHS beneficiaries can get the treatment in these hospitals. Things will not work one sided. Both parties have to come at reasonable charges. Now the stent cost has been reduced drastically so low that no hospitals will provide treatment to CGHS beneficiaries except RML, Safdarjung. What a plight of CGHS beneficiaries specially retired Sr. citizens who do not have any other income except pension.
