Growth vs Inflation

Government is in a Catch 22 situation. On one side is slow down of economy, and on the other is Inflation. If Government wants to give a boost to economy, it has to encourage Investment. An Investor will come only when he is ensured of handsome returns on his investment. Returns will come to him only when there is demand in the market. For creating demand, people will have to spend more for which they should have surplus funds. This is likely to create Inflation with money supply increasing in market.

Government shall have to decide between one of the two lesser evils - Inflation or Growth. I think Growth is more important which will create more employment in the country. Government can make a beginning from its own house. They should go slow on reducing fiscal deficit. There is nothing magical in the figure of 4.8%. There is a ban on purchase of vehicles in Government. This ban should be lifted in the first instance. This will revive the sagging demand in the auto industry and hence boost production and GDP. Growth of 5.5% in GDP during 2012-13 is possible.

Pay govt doctors at par with private

Government Doctors should be given salary at par with their counterparts in Private Hospitals. They should be provided with fully furnished residences and transport to attend hospital at short call. They should also be given security. But these doctors should be brought under the purview 'Biometric Attendance Machine' and 'Close circuit cameras' be attached in their chambers to ensure that they do not treat the patients callously. Their should be a system of patient feeding information in the website of the government hospital and getting appointment of doctors. This will reduce queues in hospitals.

For CGHS beneficiaries, in the city of New Delhi, there should be a separate super specialty hospital. Doctors in this hospital could work both on regular and also contract/consultancy basis. This hospital should also have a Medical College where only the wards of the Central Government employees should get admission, with the condition that they will serve the hospital for 20 years on completing their education. The private hospitals who are not fulfilling their obligations, should be forced to dole out the market price of the land.

Don't give post-retirement sops to officers

It is wrong on the part of the Government to give post-retirement sops to officers who held critical posts like Directors of CBI and IB, Election Commissioners etc. People feel that these sops are given for services rendered during their official term. They do not see former CBI Director A P Singh's nomination as USC Member different. Now we know why all these corruption cases probed by CBI are going on a snail's pace.

Why did they not raise all these doubts earlier ?

Some individuals and TV channels have come out questioning the execution of Afzal Guru. Some have found legal flaws even in the Supreme Court's Judgement upholding the death sentence. Why did they not raise all these doubts earlier? They had more than a decade to do so. They could have helped a man who was sent to gallows if he did not deserve that fate. By raising these doubts now they are only adding fuel to the Kashmir fire besides intensifying the pain of his distraught family. Let us not show disregard for our judicial process. After all they must have found this as 'rarest of the rare' case for awarding death sentence. Still one feels that statesmanship and farsightedness demanded that the same should not have been carried out the way it was done. He deserved to meet his family before his death. Even condemned are entitled to human rights. The fallout of this is going to be overwhelming for our country.
