Role of IAF in anti-naxal war
In a display of shameful cowardice IAF officers left behind a critically
injured policeman to die. As usual the IAF HQ will justify this completely
inexplicable and inhuman conduct of these officers, and cover it up
citing SOPs and "technical reasons", and media will
shy away from criticizing the over-glorified IAF, I hope the Chhattisgarh
Police HQ and MHA takes up this matter and gets these coward IAF officers
punished.
Yesterday, a CAF Jawan was killed and another severely injured while
conducting a road-opening operation along with CRPF in the forest area
of Temelwada under Dornapal police station area (Chhattisgarh).
The IAF HU which has the mandate of casualty evacuation, providing
relief supplies during an operation and also air dropping of Para-military
and state police personnel was asked to carry out a casualty evacuation
mission. The Mi-17 helicopter, with seven personnel on-board, was hit
by Naxal gunfire at about 1700 hrs when it was about to land for the
pick-up. The helicopter was hit twice by Naxal gunfire, apparently damaging
its hydraulic systems and generators, and also injuring the Chhattisgarh
Police radio operator Head Constable M R Sahu who was in the helicopter
to provide radio contact with the CAF and CRPF. HC Sahu suffered a bullet
injury in his abdomen and was critically injured.
The two IAF pilots decided to steer the helicopter away from the location
and landed it about 4kms away in a paddy field. The six armour-plated
Mi-17 has two Guard commandos on board with 2 LMGs other than the personal
weapons that each crew carries.
The IAF crew (the two pilots, commandos and the engineer's), in a bizarre
decision, left behind the injured radio operator and walked away. At
1930hrs they reached Chintagufa police station which was about 3 Kms
from the landing site.
Paramilitary forces, mobilized from different areas, then mounted an
operation to rescue the injured jawans left behind at the spot as well
as "secure" the helicopter. Around 2130hrs a CRPF contingent
reached the spot and rescued the injured police wireless operator.
An IAF spokesperson confirmed the incident and said: "After successfully
landing the helicopter, the crew's first task was to seek support to
secure the chopper and get medical attention for the injured jawan."
The IAF, however, didn't explain how the damaged helicopter could have
been protected and the injured radio operator attended to when the entire
crew decided to walk away.

Is Govt. of West Bengal listening?
It seems that the Government of West Bengal has not yet learnt any
lesson from the Delhi Gangrape Case. Many Government run buses in Kolkata
are still plying with advertisement pasted on the windows of the buses,
which makes it totally opaque, and is vulnarable for the women passengers.
