Landmark judgement
Supreme Court in its landmark judgement has clarified what was obvious to all right thinking person's that a Criminal cannot be the people's representative. My congratulations to those who pursued it for so long to bring it to logical end. I am sure it will encourage us to challenge other pressing issues which will help in improving the lot of common man.

Path breaking SC Judgement
The recent SC judgment on barring those punished on criminal charges becoming people's representatives is path breaking. But are not the courts unknowingly culpable of helping accused politicians in delaying the verdicts on filmsy grounds. How Laloo Yadav who has been accused of swindling hundreds of crores of public funds able to evade the verdict for all these years. Now he has approached the Court for changing the judge trying him. Court has asked for prosecution's reply. It will take months to restart the trial. Similarly, what happened to Mulayam Singh's and Mayavati's trials which are dragging on. Political criminals have an easy way to avoid conviction. With ill gotten wealth they can get the best lawyers and go on delaying the cases against them by raising questions on every ground. SC should show the same alacrity in putting a time ceiling for the trial for
such political criminals. Now with long trials, not only the criminals are allowed to enjoy their ill gotten wealth, but also public funds are wasted.

Supreme Court's Historic Judgement
It would be premature to feel ecstatic about it. All political parties have criminal elements. However, judging from their unanimity in challenging CIC's orders on coverage under the RTI Act, one wonders whether they would show similar solidarity by challenging the Supreme Court's orders through the legislative route. One trust the voters will exercise their right to franchise at the impending Assemblies and General elections after taking into consideration the political responses to SC's orders.
