SAIL Bhilai Steel Plant supplies switch point rails to Railways
First consignment of 18 pairs of thick web asymmetric end-forged rails was flagged off on July 13, 2013 by Chandrasekaran, CEO, Bhila Steel Plant (BSP). The project of setting a forging unit was taken on priority based on the commitment by SAIL to Railway Board. The commercial production of these facilities was inaugurated earlier by Chairman SAIL C S Verma in January this year. The dispatch of the first consignment of these rails today to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, Tamluk, West Bengal marks the successful culmination of this commitment. It has been a constant endeavor of Rail and Structural Mill, Bhilai Steel Plant to develop new value added products for its esteemed customer Indian Railways. Bhilai had developed and successfully rolled thick web asymmetric rails. Exhibiting faith in its five decade old partnership with SAIL, Indian Railways entrusted the task of forging one end of these rails to enable its joining with stock rails. These rails shall help Indian Railways to lay high speed, high strength and long life switches in their network. Indian Railways have projected a yearly demand of 10,000 tons of these switch rails. No producer in India makes these specialized rails and this is an import substitute item. This achievement is especially important as it shall help Railways in their plan to increase traffic loads and speeds. On its part Bhilai has once again successfully exhibited its eagerness to be a one stop shop of rail requirements of Indian Railways the biggest customer of SAIL.

Historical SC Judgement

Supreme Court has given a landmark and historical judgement to clean up the politics but it is to be seen whether the same can be implemented in the same letter and spirit in which judgement is pronounced. The judgement would have become more historic if it is implemented retrospectively from the present parliament and state assemblies as was done in the tax case of Vodafone by passing the law retrospectively through Parliament.
