World oil demand expected to increase in 2013
World oil demand is expected to increase by 0.8 mb/d in 2013, in line
with the growth seen last year. The forecast remains unchanged from
the previous report, despite a downward revision to the first quarter
due to actual data. In the non-OECD, oil consumption is projected to
grow by 1.2 mb/d, slightly lower than last year. China is seen continuing
to grow at 0.4 mb/d, the Middle East at 0.3 mb/d, and Other Asia and
Latin America regions at 0.2 mb/d each.

The1995 batch Jharkhand cadre IAS officer Ajoy Kumar Singh has won the
United Nations Public Service Award (UNPSA) - 2013 for Swavalamban,
an online old-age pension payment and monitoring system, at Manama in
Bahrain.

Dharitri Panda has been empanelled for the post of Joint Secretary or
equivalent in Government of India. Panda is a 1987 batch officer of

have brighter prospects
As many as three officers are being discussed as the prospective successor
of D S Poonia, the incumbent Chief Secretary of Manipur. Among the three
candidates belonging to 1979, 1981 & 1983 batch respectively, the
prospects are brighter for 1983 & 1979 batch officers.
JD in ED is important these days
Joint Directors in the Enforcement Directorate are quite important these
days. This is evident from the fact that a full committee of the CVC
is meeting to decide about the extension of one year to four Joint Directors.
Will Ajay Nath go to GoI as ED ?
Will ACS Finance in Madhya Pradesh return to the Government of India
as ED ? Younger brother of the late ED Sudhir Nath, Ajay Nath, who belongs
to 1982 batch of IAS, is a favourite choice for the post. The only question
is whether the Madhya Pradesh Government will relieve him to join the
Government of India. So far his name has not been sent to the GoI.
Saurabh Jain to join LBSNAA
Saurabh Jain, a 2002 batch Kerala cadre IAS officer, is likely to join
as Deputy Director, in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration
(LBSNAA), Mussoorie.

of Birmingham, United Kingdom has awarded honorary Doctor of Engineering
Degree to Prof. P B Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Delhi Technological University
on July 3, 2013. The Degree was awarded by Sir Dominic Cadbury, Chancellor
at the Convocation ceremony at University of Birmingham, United Kingdom

Why would Chandrasekhar accept demotion?
The post of Chairman of NTRO is equivalent to ex-officio Secretary.
