Really surprising

It is really surprising to note from media reports that the Finance Minister is planning to monitor surplus funds available with various PSUs and even other Corporate to ensure that the funds available with them are deployed in accordance with your wishes. Please understand that the PSUs are attached to individual ministries. Further those which are public limited companies are managed by the Boards of Directors and the ultimate responsibility lies towards the shareholders.

It is up to the Boards of Directors to plan and manage the affairs of the companies with approvals of their shareholders as necessary for their long term survival and growth and you as the Minister of Finance have no role to play in monitoring or in any way dictating to them about the management in particular the deployment of financial resources.

You as the minister have no accountability for their proper running and it is the Board that is responsible and accountable to the shareholders for the same. It is, therefore, requested that you do not over-extend and overreach in areas where you have no brief.

On the other hand, there are many fundamental areas where the ministry has miserably failed and these should receive your focused attention, till the time you are holding the portfolio.

Top level corruption in Maharatnas

In Maharatnas CPSUs, senior level promotions such as GMs and EDs are decided by Directors and Chairman in dubious ways. It is high time that Central Government makes a uniform and transparent promotion policy for CPSU officers to weed out corruption at top level in Maharatnas.

Shameful incident of Punjab police

Extremely shameful incident of Punjab police personnel mercilessly beating a lady ,her brother and father for having complained about sexual harassment is indicative of not only deep rot and indiscipline but also of criminals having joined police force. In such a scenario, what difference Rs 1000 Crore Nirbhaya Fund announced by Finance Minister in his budget speech will make in improving the safety of women will be known to Chidambram only . Infact Rs 1000 crores be spent entirely on imparting training to police force and weeding out those with criminal tendencies even by offering them golden handshake so that such shameful incidents do not occur again .

Musharraf is a discredited person

This is with reference to the post relating to Parvez Musharraf's threatened return to Pakistan and participation in the forth coming general elections there. (WIC 7-3-2013) While a handful of his old hangers on and collaborators might be living in the wishful delusion of his possible return to power, for a common Pakistani, Musharraf is a discredited person facing terrorism related criminal charges in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case in which there is already an arrest warrant issued against him and some of his immovable property under attachment as per the CrPC for being an absconder. An overwhelming majority even within the armed forces have nothing but hatred for him for the dubious role he played in the infamous Kargil misadventure bringing shame to the army and disowning his men who fell in line of duty on the icy heights. With Chuck Hagel's upside down sense of who has been creating problems for whom it may not be wholly unthinkable that the Americans might decide to support the former dictator during whose tenure America's enemy number one Osama Bin Laden got a safe place to hide in the garrison town of Abbottabad under the very army's nose which Musharraf headed. But Pakistan's march to democracy now seems irreversible. Besides a common Pakistani sees Musharraf as nothing more than a self aggrandizing usurper who reneged on his own oath of office and usurped power. All said and done instead of anyone in Pakistan (or for that matter elsewhere including in India) worrying for the prospects of Musharraf's return to power it should be Musharraf himself who should be worrying about the dark days that await him just after the general elections should he choose to come to Pakistan and also join the electoral fray. Let us remember this is not the first time Musharraf has made the unsolicited declaration of his intent to return home and contest elections. He has been saying it periodically perhaps just to test the waters and then receding back to his safe havens in London or Dubai. To me it seems he will neither return to Pakistan nor contest the elections and if he decides to contest he is sure to lose his deposits. Anyone interested in joining a (lawful) bet with me on the issue?

Story on Musharraf is erroneous

Your story on Musharraf is erroneous and lacks understanding issues in Pakistan. He would never get elected.
