Casteism - a curse
In most of the Metros boys and girls are getting married ignoring the
caste which is a very good sign. Unfortunately the benefits of reservation
is being cornered by the newly developed Elite amongst the S C &
S T community and rest are not able get their share. This must be stopped.
Those who have got reservation benefit should be debarred to avail it
for their children and new families should get it. This will help all
the members of the community and uplift them economically.

Interesting site that provides lot of food for thought
Your site is very interesting and provides lot of food for thought.
I was amazed that even the Poona pact was discussed on your site. As
a student of history, for your readers, here is a brief on the Poona
Pact. The pact was signed on Sept. 24, 1932. The British made a communal
award of Aug. 4, 1932 allotting seats in the various legislatures of
India to different communities as a part of their divide and rule politics.
Mahatma Gandhi objected to the provision of separate electorates for
the Scheduled Castes, which unnaturally treated them as separate from
the Hindus. In prison, Gandhiji began a fast unto death in protest.
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar felt that his group's special interests might
be advanced by the government's system, resisted concessions until Gandhi
was near death. He and the Hindu leaders then agreed to the pact, which
withdrew separate electorates but gave increased representation to the
Scheduled Castes for a 10-year period. Ambedkar complained of blackmail,
but the nationalist movement always fought against untouchability which
had been inflicted on the scheduled castes by the caste hindus (including
all other castes whether so called "high" or "low").
Arjun Mallik
Totally unjustifiable
Friends, to defend casteism on the pretext of its existence in Christianity
or Muslims must understand that if there are any so-called divisions,
is totally unjustifiable. Defending one's own religion is right but
defending social evils in any religion is a sin. Casteism is mother
of untouchability and social disparity. It has forced people to quit
their age old religion. Casteism has totally shattered Hinduism, weakened
it, divided it, millions have walked away from it converting to two
other religions. The ancient Varna Vyastha followed by Caste System
established the principle 'divide and rule' based on theory of by birth
and not by worth. Hence it is ridiculous to defend this ugly institution.
In pre-independent India, it was believed by social reformers that inter-dining,
inter caste-marriages, will end casteism. But it has been proved over
the years though there are changes but these social interactions have
done nothing to abolish caste as an institution. For example, inter
caste-marriage between two castes only leads to some harmony between
the two but certainly it does not annihilate the caste system as such.
Inter-caste marriages, visits to temples, equal human rights, fundamental
rights, top positions in bureaucracy, politics, they reflect progressiveness
of our society but don't abolish one's caste. Because people are progressing
in their own castes by birth, the old social reform movements have brought
in changes, peace, harmony and opportunity to we the Hindus, but were
not able to abolish castes. We need more social reform movement clearly
focusing on abolishing castes totally from Hinduism, all should be known
as Hindus and not by castes. When Varna Vyavastha has disappeared, I
am certain with social awakening and social movements, ugly institution
of caste will also disappear one day.

Biased opinion
It is totally a biased opinion to say that the Civil Services Award
function is tilted towards IAS officers only. In the past awards have
been won by the Railways (CRIS), External Affairs (Syrian evacuation),
Tax Departments, Doctors and Engineers also. From the DAIS, famous people
like Dr Abdul Kalam, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Sam Pitroda and B T Shreedharan
etc. have spoken and interacted. A number of people of other walks of
life have also participated in the programme and gave their views from
the DAIS. The programme in the Department of Administrative Reforms
& Public Grievances so far has been managed by the Central Secretariat
and Indian Audit Accounts Service level officers (Divisional Head level).
The main problem is that the annual awards scheme day by day is losing
its sheen. Not many other people are coming forward with their proposals.
Showing enterprise in this era of policy paralysis can be treated as
otherwise at a later date by investigating agencies.

Dalits never acknowledged
Though Babasaheb married a Brahmin in last stages of his life, Dalits
never acknowledged and it is said that this marriage was a part of a
larger conspiracy. But statistics has revealed that many Brahmins girls
end up marrying Muslims, Christains, BC/SC/ST.

Poor Journalism to call it "Hungaamaa"
Freedom of the press should not be misused to make it a license to
spread disinformation and misinformation. Why do the TV channel shout
loud calling the debates in the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha as "hungaamaa".
They are in their most aggressive form while calling it hungaamaa. In
the past 10 years specially, the TV channels must have used this expression
a million times, reducing burning issues of national and public importance
to just hungaamaa. This period has witnessed a series of scams unprecedented
in the history of India (Mughal, British or modern). Are they not to
be vociferously raised in the parliament when a government turns deaf
or even condemns constitutional authorities like the C&AG of India,
who alone is authorized to unearth violations of the Financial Laws
of the government, irregularities in expenditure from the Consolidated
Fund of India or the embezzlement of funds from the treasury etc. Any
honest government would take necessary action to make amends and recover
the government money. It is the system; it is the constitutional scheme
of governance. When it is breached, it amounts to collapse of the constitutional
machinery. Should the media call it mere hungaamaa? The people, the
aam admi, who is their consumer of news and views, is suffering and
crying to be heard and provided remedy. Should the media not present
these efforts correctly, in an unbiased manner and constructively? The
media must remember that there is greater trust deficit between them
and their viewers/readers than between the government and the governed.
For the angry people of India, both are only necessary evils. The day
FDI enters into media industry, they will opt for foreign news and views. The
media should stop shedding croc tears and jeers about hours lost in
what they all hungaamaa, and make the government listen the woes of
the poor people.
