Infoline Finance Ltd FORUM (The views expressed in this column are of the contributors. We do not owe any responsibility, whatsoever, of the views of our surfers as they are their personal opinion. However, we would also request our contributors not to be personal, directly or indirectly, in presenting their views. Instead of countering the views which X has already expressed, our contributors are advised to present their own views. Also be brief, say about 200 words at the most since any views longer than that if eliminated at our end would carry the risk of the contrbutors item losing its original essence) Caste system should go I agree totally without any reservation that caste system is very bad and should go and go completely. No two opinions on this. My impression is that we are gradually moving towards that direction particularly in cities and urban areas. In villages also the situation is not as bad as it used to be 30 - 35 years ago. But, since my name has been mentioned by one of the writers I feel I owe an explanation. I want to say that I do not believe in caste system. My parents were orthodox but I never approved their attitude. I have no problem in eating with and at the houses of my SC/ST friends. However, present discussion on this site which started from reservation issue has been deliberately shifted to caste issue. I have not read any view here supporting the caste system directly or indirectly. There is no basis for supporting this evil practice. Reservation in jobs has also helped no doubt. But what I think; have been saying and want to say again is that policy should be modified so that it benefits those also SCs/STs who have not got the benefit so far. Only for this reason I feel that those already got benefit should be excluded. I do not find anything wrong in this, which is merely a suggestion, but some people are not prepared to give even a small thought to this; are rejecting this outright and are talking of civil war. Others are free to have their view, but I feel that a reasonably economically well off SC/ST/ OBC person who can provide reasonably good food, clothing, house to his family and good education to his children is far much better than a Brahmin, Rajput, etc. who is poor. How being an upper caste is benefiting him or giving him social status? But remember and keep in mind that reverses discrimination is also discrimination against those who are also human beings and citizens of India. Bishan Delighted Reading Analysis about the greatest evil called caste in India is a delight to read for the clarity, erudition and in- depth analysis on the subject. As a Dalit, I appreciate the stand and views. Irrespective of whoever ruled the country Brahmins have always been the biggest beneficiaries because of their hold on education which was denied to others. Even if a Brahmin is poor he has access to everything unlike the shudras whose entry is barred/ denied for even basic necessities like water even today.
Reservation is most abhorrent thing in a democracy The comments of SHAILJA has brought tears to my eyes. What a travesty of justice. When the so called caste discrimination was done by the Upper Classes, India was not a democracy and did not have fundamental rights, what we see now is the worst form of social suicide in India. Have you ever seen any top politician getting treated by a reserved category doctor? If not why? Those who get Muft Ki Roti , only they support this heinous system. I want to ask what facility did Shrinivas Ramanujan had? He was a very poor Brahmin. Why is he being considered the greatest mathematician? It shows talent needs no reservation.
Similarities between Secular Kerala and Islamic Pakistan Reading about Pakistan elections I was struck by the similarities between Secular (Suckular) Kerala and Islamic Pakistan. Both are ruled by the direct descendants of Jinnah's Muslim league; IUML in Kerala and PML (N) in Pakistan. Both are very proud of their Jinnah heritage. They still wear Jinnah caps. You will never catch an IUML leader wearing Gandhi (Hindu) caps. There is one difference PML is supported by Pak nationalist and Islamic forces whereas IUML is supported by mainly Congress party and some anti nationals and Jihadists. May be we should remove visa requirements for Pakis to visit Kerala ; may be a direct air service between Calicut and Lahore or a steamer service between Kochi and Karachi. Then we can import counterfeit currency and weapons directly without going through Dubai. Also terror accused Madani (for whose release from Bangalore jail UDF and LDF vied with each other in passing a resolution in Kerala Assembly) and his friends can directly recruit terrorists and send them to Pakistan for training without Indian Army intercepting them. Only one problem. The first causalities of this Mallu-Pak Bhai Bhai will be the "Sucular" leaders of Congress and CPM who will have to flee to the" Fascist" state of Gujarat. N Krishnan |
