Should not the Railway compensate ?

I was travelling in 2nd AC of Duranto Express from Nizamuddin to Pune. After taking lunch provided by the Railways, I started vomitting after two hours. It continued unabated. A railway doctor was summoned at Varodara railway station who advised me to get down and get treatment. Accordingly, I got down with my family members and took first aid. Next morning we took a flight to Mumbai and drove straight from Airport to Hiranandani Hospital where I took proper treatment. In the process we incurred a financial loss of Rs 50,000 besides risk of life and physical and mental torture. Should not the Railway compensate for the loss. The spurious food was supplied by it.

Performance Appraisal system needs review

The existing Performance Appraisal Report System (PAR) in civil services was revised in 2007.DoPT now wants to replace it by relying on Singapore Civil Service model. The Cabinet Secretary at the last Civil Service Day in April 2013, had acknowledged that every government servant was getting a 9 or 10 ranking in the annual appraisals. "If everyone is outstanding, no one is," he added. Does it imply that the PAR format of 2007 was defective, finalized without application of mind. The Singapore Civil Service is undoubtedly an efficient bureaucracy with a high standard of discipline and accountability ? But, let India not be a copycat. Any promotion system without holding interviewing the aspirants by independent board of serving Secretaries, behavioral scientists etc, will be meaningless. Let a beginning be made with empanelment of officers to Joint Secretary level and above ,in all organized Services.
