Significant improvements in Air India's performance parameters (UPDATED)
Air India has recorded significant improvements in its performance parameters, estimating a huge 44 per cent slash in its operating losses in 2013-14 and an almost 20 per cent growth in its operating revenue since the previous financial year. While the national carrier expects a 14.5 per cent rise in passenger revenue in 2013-14 to reach Rs 14,300 crore, its operating revenue is expected at Rs 19,200 crore, an increase of 19.6 per cent compared to the previous financial year, latest official estimates said. Air India was also able to reduce its operating losses by 44 per cent to Rs 2,100 crore compared to Rs 3,800 crore in 2012-13, the estimates drawn up for the financial year's closure showed. Official sources said the airline continues to be EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation) positive in 2013-14 and was expected to show a significant improvement over the previous year. In 2014-15, they said Air India has projected passenger revenue earnings of Rs 16,400 crore, a growth of 14.5 per cent over 2013-14 and an operating revenue of Rs 21,300 crore. The airline's domestic load factor also shot up to 75.8 per cent vis-a-vis 73.7 per cent achieved in 2012-13. Its international load factor was 73 per cent vis-a-vis 71.8 of the previous year, the figures showed. In spite of the fare wars unleashed particularly by the no-frill competitors, Air India was able to not only sustain its yield but increased it on both international and domestic routes, the sources said. Air India's yield per kilometre for international traffic improved to Rs 3.60 and to Rs 6.08 on domestic routes.

Trend of ongoing recovery in OECD
Recent developments in the global economy confirm the trend of an ongoing recovery in the OECD and a slow-down in emerging markets, leaving the global growth forecast unchanged at 3.5% for 2014. The forecast for the OECD remains at 2.0% for the current year. The recent sluggish performance of emerging markets, however, confirmed that the slow-down there is ongoing. While some weakness in China's data might have been distorted by inactivity after the Chinese New Year, the decelerating trend has been obvious for many months. India seems to be recovering from its low growth level of 2013, but some uncertainties prevail over the direction of its fiscal policy after the upcoming general elections in May.

Whisper's Narendra Modi- PMO ?

Your above whispers makes me laugh, you are joking and you have excellent sense of humour for entertaining readers like us. Agreed, whispersinthe... is quiet good in guessing, generally. That is why we religiously read it twice a day. But there should be a limit to wild imaginations. Elections have not even taken place (whispers is deciding PMO of Modi....) and masses know that except TV and Newspapers Houses, there is nothing as such among masses that BJP or any other single party is going to win straight. We all know, putting an advertisement of 10 lines in newspaper, most probably we pay more than Rs. 10,000/-. Rather media houses charge per word not per line. Whispers might be giving free service to BJP, it is just possible. This particular whisper of yours, reminds me of Kapil Sharma's Comedy Show... Gaon basne se pahle hee.........

Even Railway officers get family pass as freebie that should stop. It is sheer waste of Railway's money. Ours is a poor country with lots of poor, undernourished/malnourished people who have nothing to eat forget enjoy. You wana enjoy-do that from your savings.

DATE WITH RTI

Is information about dependency of a government employee personal?

The appellant wanted to know whether a particular government employee has shown her parents to be dependent on her and what benefits she has availed for her parents. He further asked whether the government employee was on leave on a particular date and if so, whether she was on out station leave and the station to which she had gone. The information was denied as being personal information which is exempt from disclosure under section 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act. The Central Information Commission (CIC) held that information about dependency is not personal. The CIC observed that leave information cannot be termed as personal information and directed to provide the same. Further, the CIC held that whether she was on out station leave on the date and the name of the station is personal information and need not be disclosed.

Comments

On the basis of information about dependency, an employee claims certain benefits like LTC, and medical benefits. Therefore, information about dependency which has been made by a government employee to obtain benefits is not a personal information. Whether a government employee is on leave is not personal information, but the name of the station where the employee went on a holiday is personal.
