Meira Kumar as PM?
Will it happen? If yes, Congress will be a gainer, which has, otherwise,
failed on this front since its existence and lost considerable amount
faith of secular minded people and also of Dalits in particular. That
is one of the reasons, several Dalit political students left Congress
and formed their own parties so that they rise to Chief Minister's position
at their own and try to reach the top political position of PM one day.
Meira Kumar's first positive, in the present political scenario, is
being from a non-Gandhi family, then, a woman, a civil servant, diplomat,
politician, social worker, and now Speaker, LS, is a superb combination
for Prime Minister's post, given her excellent credentials.

Modi should take all safety precautions before meeting foreigners
When the US Ambassador Ms Nancy Powell called on Narendra Modi recently,
there was speculation whether she was subjected to strip and cavity
searches or not, as Modi belongs to the Z category of security. This
would have been quite in order and a strictly reciprocal gesture. We
must not forget that David Headley was a US agent and the brain behind
the Mumbai terrorist attack. It is also now accepted that Ishrat Jehan
was a terrorist and there were plans to eliminate Modi. Keeping these
facts in view, it would be better for Modi to take all safety precautions
before meeting foreigners.

FM failed to increase number of tax payers
True that the Finance Minister is going to present vote on account on
Feb 17, 2014 without much emphasis on tax collection as it is not full
budget. FM failed to increase number of tax payers significantly whose
taxable income is more than 1 crore, the figure could not go to 42 lakhs.
It is not that FM cannot do it but he never wanted to do it as still
IT department chases the cases like if some one is in receipt of interest
more than 50,000/-. It is not clear by which logic it is taxable income
for a non-working elderly people who have deposited their savings in
FD only for their survival. It is just harassment. For such people notices
are being sent. It means there is deliberate move not to touch high
income group people. Why data for people having cars costing more than
20 lakhs have not been compiled and notices sent for their real income.
If some one spends more than 2 lakhs in a year thru credit card, a notice
is sent but not those earning more than 1 crore for a single show or
single stage performance. List of people driving Mercedes, BMW, Audi,
Land cruiser, Bentley, Porsche, Maserati, Aston Martin, Jaguar etc.
still not available with IT department. People stayed in five star hotels
in last two years still not being compiled but some one has shares of
1 lakh of a company is being chased. Where we are moving? Is FM aware
how much loss of revenue due to low invoicing during imports. Recent
media report has shown item costing 2000 is being shown as 20 rupee
item. Submission to FM re-orient officials in more meaningful work for
collection of taxes. The remedy to all the ills in tax collection is
collection of the information/Data on higher spending, stay in five
star hotels, higher bank transactions in cash as well through cheques
and bank transfers, purchase of high value cars, list of people getting
high value amounts for shows etc. If this Data is compiled sincerely
and correctly, I am sure IT Department can trace and fine lot of tax
evaders and get revenues too.

Nomination of Sachin Tendulkar to the Rajya Sabha
Information about Rajya Sabha nominations was denied by the Public
Information Officer (PIO) on the plea that these did not come
under the purview of section 2(f) of the RTI Act. The appellant
contended that he only sought to know who had proposed the name
of Shri Sachin Tendulkar for membership of the Rajya Sabha; and
whether any other names were proposed for the same purpose. The
PIO submitted that the appellant has filed various RTI applications
and before coming for hearing, they were not sure about the points
being raised in the present case. The Central Information Commission
(CIC) directed the respondent to provide the information to the
appellant as available within 30 days of the order.
Comments
There are many cases where an applicant files a number of applications
on a similar issue. The public authority must have a system in
place to keep track of the applications on an individual basis
so that the decision of the PIO can be defended in a proper manner
before the CIC.
