Obama wants Modi's help in US Prez elections?
In the political and social circles in Delhi, the buzz is that US President Barack Obama wants Indian PM's help in securing Indian-American votes in the US Prez election scheduled for next year. When Indian PM Modi visited the US in September last year, he was given a heroic welcome by Indians settled in USA. This impressed Obama and now he wants to cash in Narendra Modi's popularity among Indians. Now the time will tell whether Obama would be able to translate such Indian votes, which has a sizeable population, in favour of his party's candidate.

Enhance retirement age to 61 years

Need to enhance the retirement age had been discussed times and again. In order to avoid injustice to the present employees, government should consider to enhance retirement age to 61 years so that all the present employees get the additional retirement benefits of 7th pay commission.

Organisation notorious for corruption

DGS&D is an organisation notorious for corruption. When the New NDA government had taken over, I had written elsewhere that this monolith should be wound up and the concerned Ministries and Departments should be authorised to invite tenders for their requirements within the budget allocation and make direct purchases. DGS&D is a white elephant for which both the government and the vendors pay- the government in white and the vendor in black.

DATE WITH RTI

Property details in relation to a court case

The Applicant sought information regarding the details of the properties of her estranged husband as per records of the bank. The PIO denied the information under Section 8 (1) (d) of the RTI Act on the ground that it pertained to a third party. The applicant submitted that she needs the details of the properties of her estranged husband to get a share in the same for herself and her child. The CIC referred to the Supreme Court judgment in Girish Ramchandra Deshpande vs. Central Information Commissioner and Ors. [Special Leave Petition (Civil) No. 27734 of 2012] and held that the information sought by the Applicant is exempted from disclosure under Section 8 (1) (j) of the RTI Act.

Just because a public servant is in litigation with someone in the course of a private dispute, the personal information cannot be provided to establish the truth of allegations. Such disclosure cannot be said to be in "public interest" as the litigation is a private one.
