Once Latur type district in MP is now plush with water

When many parts in country are suffering with acute shortage of drinking water and water trains have been dispatched to Latur, one district of Madhya Pradesh which used to be in news only for water scarcity of Latur type, is plush with water from the Narmada Kshipra River Linking project. Only few years back Dewas, an industrial town, suffered acute, Latur like water shortages every year. Water had to be transported by trains to Dewas. Same was the story of Ujjain town. Some small dams built in these districts gave some relief but the summers remained dry. In Feb.2014 Narmda- Kshipra River Link was commissioned which rejuvenated river Kshipra with water from Narmada. Since then, the Dewas town and the rural area along side Narmada have been enjoying plenty of water supply even in the hottest of summers in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Dewas dam situated on Agra-Bomaby Road NH3 on river Kshipra is overflowing even now in this hot April, with Narmada water and the 153 km long kshipra supercharged with Narmada water is the life line for about 78 villages and 2 towns of Ujjain and Dewas with additional benefit of very high recharge of the groundwater table in the area. This has also led to large scale agricultural and vegetable production along side the river throughout the year. Simhastha 2016 at Ujjain is also getting water from this link. Credit must go to ACS Rajnish Vaish who heads Narmada Valley Development Authority .

Will an outsider know what is bogie, couplers, brakes etc ?

Even the IRTS, IRAS and IRPS are taught about the technical working training during their training days. Will an outsider know what is bogie, couplers, brakes etc.. Then how will an outsider who is going to run the railways know about the railway operations like movement of traffic, route kilometerage, EMUs, different of type of wagons and their use.

"Water more important than cricket"

Right to Life is a Fundamental Right
Right to provide water to Indian citizens, is the Fundamental duty of the Government.
Provide water to them or quit.
There is nothing called Right to play Cricket.
IPL is not a national game. It is a commercial venture. It is like playing politics.

DATE WITH RTI

Copies of documents held after the completion of retention period

The appellant filed the RTI application seeking attested copies of external examination question papers of B. Arch. for a certain period, some answer sheets etc. The Respondent informed that according to rules of the University, the students are supposed to apply for copies of answer sheets, within 15 days from the date of declaration of the result. As per the University's retention policy, answer sheets are retained for three months, from the date of declaration of result. But, if the student fails to apply within the prescribed period of 15 days, the answer sheets cannot be given to the student, though the same are held by the public authority upto three months. The CIC ruled that the above retention policy of the University is not a correct practice. If they have retained the answer sheets, even after the prescribed retention period for any reason, they cannot deny if it is not destroyed as on the date of RTI application

Comments

No public authority can impose additional restrictions over and above those prescribed under Section 8 of the RTI Act to deny any information to the applicant. A Public Authority is expected to make its own record retention policy and provide information to any RTI applicant as per the same as long as the records are not weeded out. If the records have been retained even after the prescribed retention period, copies of the same cannot be denied if it is not destroyed as on the date of RTI application. Further, a Public Authority is required to hold the records, if an RTI application is pending before the authorities.
