JNU... Just Not a University ..

There is this Tea and Snacks shop a stone's throw from JNU...its frequented by many JNU students. I happen to be in the area so I stop over for a Tea and Samosa ....

Me: Ek Chai aur ek samosa ...

Owner: Anything else ...

M: Wah...itni achchi angrezi..

O: Sir ji graduate hoo...Pitaji doosri dookan pe hothe hai aur mein iss pe...family business ..

M: What was the pangaa that took place in JNU...

O: <looks around and when he sees no one is in earshot whispers> Sabh Shikshako ka karra dharra.... jabh Kisan hee amli (drug addict) hoe toh khet koun see ugaaye ga ...

M: Shocking...

O: ( turns the volume of the FM radio to high) You think the Principal and Teachers did not know what is going on ????? Unless there is a total purge of teachers here JNU can never change.. the Principal just did a drama by cancelling permission 15 minutes before event ..

M: What about students...

O: Saab ji JNU mein there are students who are middle aged ...these students have made being a student into a profession. .. they are the ones who vitiate JNU. .. they are mostly Communists ... JNU is the gadd of Communism..

M: Middle aged students ....

O: Jee ha .... I used to work at this shop under my Dad years back when I was doing my graduation... I used to see many of these middle aged students ...then young ... and today I am a father of 2 and they are still students ..

M: So they must be influencing students to indulge in politicking on the campus...

O: Students with poor backgrounds are their first targets ... the rich and middle class types they entice via Cultural programmes etc....if they want JNU to be a place of learning ...then stop giving subsidy to these ' middle aged professional students' ...11/- day for a room....20/- for unlimited Thali. .. Tution fee 200/- + ...per student the subsidy per year works out to 3 lacs...

M: Today in newspapers there is a photo of the parents of the student who was arrested ..poor and sick..

O: More the reason he should have stayed away from politics and studied and got a job....these people do not attend classes ...either in Communist Party Office or indulging in politics on the campus ...or protesting somewhere ...

M: But that day did you come to know that at night there is going to be trouble on the Campus..

O: We knew the day the posters came up ....and on that day there were many students with covered faces.. who were they no one knows... I closed my shop early and went home ...

M: Now entire Opposition has ganged up against Government and are siding with these so said students ..despite knowing that the protests were purely seditious. .

O: Saab ji ... dekh lehna... sachche ka hoega boll baala ..jhoote la mooh kaala...

M: I admire Modi's way of handling his detractors... he let's issues play out and let's facts prove his detractors wrong ..... sometimes horrendously wrong...

All board members are outsiders

It is not like Railway Board, CBDT and CBEC where all members are posted from respective services. One board of GoI is not having any member from related service. Prasar Bharti( PB) is the board where all members are either IAS, IRS or from other field. Even Chairman, PB is also posted from open market. Officers of three cadres - IIS, IBPS & IBES are working in AIR and Doordarshan, which comes under PB but officers of these cadres never got the chance to be a member of PB. Experts opined that this is biggest reason for PBS failure because officers of professional services are being kept out of policy making board.

Condemn call for war against India

Let Mehrotra Sir draft a resolution condemning the call for a war against India requesting all political parties to endorse it to see which black sheep is derailing the country for easy votes. Rajnath Singh will have to demonstrate will to take stern action.

Prof (Dr ) I R Aggrawal

The government residential areas which are under the CPWD have lately become den of criminal activities, unauthorised parking, unauthorised vendors, and much more. Such activities have become routine. Several government accommodations are sublet due to which needy government servants are not getting accommodations. There is absolutely no verification of tenants as they are unauthorised occupants. CPWD/Directorate of Estates is in complete know-how of the system, but they are not taking any action. Such pathetic condition is going on everywhere be it Lodhi Road area, especially Lodhi Complex, Sarojini Nagar, MB Road, Sadiq Nagar or any other government residential area. During NDA-1 regime, we had seen Mr. Jagmohan visiting all the areas on routine basis when he was the Minister. After that there is no difference between UPA and NDA.II. Absolutely no difference so far as corruption and malpractices are concerned. Local netas seem to be hand-in-glove with these goondas/criminals which has created such a situation. The law abiding government servants and their families are living a threatened life in these areas. Hope the Government of the day wakes up. The early the better.

Review functioning of JNU

It is a well known fact that JNU is a bastion of leftist in the country. It is a pampered university with huge Govt. funds .Large number of non students stay in the hostel and enjoy the subsidised facilities. It is time to review the functioning of JNU.

S Gopal

Take action against students and JNU administration

I totally agree with the views expressed by Ms Arti Khosla on 12 Feb 2016. While the anchor gave a good bashing to the three students, their presence on the panel gave more publicity to the issue which the students could not have generated otherwise. The channel was used by these students to publicise their views and they succeeded. It's also shameful on the JNU administration to have allowed such an event. On similar lines, same slogans were chanted in Press Club of India too. I think this was pre-planned and has support from outside India.

On another news channel, during the discussion, the anchor got so agitated that no one had even filed a FIR against these students. A member of parliament immediately rushed and filed a sedition case in the police station. I wonder if any action will be taken against these students and the JNU administration.

Dr Pratima Deshpande

Privatise JNU !

JNU right from its inception, has been having students of the leftist attitude. The expenditure on JNU have always been met out of the budgets presented by the Rightist Governments. The leftist students do not read, create ruckus and also capture the hostels. It is high time to privatise JNU.

BBS

JNU' happening shameful

Raising incendiary slogans against India, supporting Kashmiri azaadi , eulogising terrorist Afzal Guru as a martyr, by groups of left wing students of JNU is reprehensible. We normally hear such provocative slogans as part of post-Friday-prayers ritual in Srinagar. Never, in Delhi. JNU is not a "disputed" territory. It never had a history of raising slogans like: "Kashmir ki Azaadi tak jung rahegi, jung rahegi". Undoubtedly, the right to " Freedom of Speech",was misused and abused. The ubiquitous posters pasted across JNU campus inviting others to join the protest march against the "judicial killing of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhatt". It is a fashion in JNU campus to inflame passions by making provocative slogans to incite fellow students. One hopes, invoking Section 124-A of IPC (sedition) in FIR by Delhi Police stands the scrutiny in court of law. Attempts will be made ( with covert support of some political parties ) to get the FIR quashed. Be that as it may, India cannot remain a mute bystander. All this seems part of a larger conspiracy hatched by enemies within, with secret support of the ISI and its moles. The crisis may escalate. The sensitive spots must remain under IB's scanner leaving no room for complacency. The Media ( both Print and TV) must act responsibly and refrain from giving undue publicity to those responsible for the mess.

DATE WITH RTI

Seeking copy of Caste Certificate of an officer

Appellant sought a copy of Schedule Tribe (ST) certificate of a particular officer under the RTI Act, on the basis of an assumption that it might be fake. The PIO replied that SC certificate was not enclosed to the service book of the officer. The Central Information Commission (CIC) asked the appellant whether the appellant is having any basis to his suspicion about the ST certificate and about his interest in seeking these details, but the appellant could not convince the CIC. The CIC observed that the appellant had been heard earlier by it in several appeals. The CIC commented that the appellant is a cantankerous misuser of RTI and does not deserve any sympathy or information, as there is no public interest. The appellant is wrecking vengeance against the authority and officers for taking stern action against his misconduct. The CIC admonished him for misuse of RTI. The CIC ruled that the Public Authority can reject his RTI applications about inquiry and inquiry officers as that would impede the entire process of inquiry.

Comments

There is no specific provision in the RTI Act regarding rejection of an application for alleged misuse of the RTI Act. However, the CIC has repeatedly come to the aid of the PIOs in cases of harassment by repeated filing of applications.
