ICS celebrates 102nd birthday
V. K. Rao, ICS, has celebrated his 102nd birthday on July 15, 2016. He is the doyen of ALL of India's administrative cadres, is the oldest ICS officer alive, and was a 1937 batch ICS officer of, originally, Bengal cadre, and then Madras and Andhra Pradesh cadres.
A wrangler (first class mathematician) from Cambridge University, he has been the Chief Secretary to Government and Adviser to the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. His final position in Government was as the Principal Secretary to the President of India, when the late Mr. N. Sanjeeva Reddy was India's President.

NBCC CMD conferred life time achievement award (UPDATED)
Dr Anoop Kumar Mittal, CMD, NBCC, has been conferred "Life Time Achievement Award 2016" awarded by Construction Times at "Construction Times Builders Award- 2016" Ceremony held on June 29, 2016 in Mumbai. NTPC signs MoU 2016-17 with GoI UPDATED)
NTPC Limited, the largest power generating company in India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Govt. of India for the year 2016-17 on 18th July, 2016 in New Delhi. The MOU was signed by Pradeep Kumar Pujari, Secretary (Power) and Gurdeep Singh,CMD, NTPC. As per the signed MOU, NTPC shall strive to generate 248 Billion Unit during the year under "Excellent" category. Further, NTPC has CAPEX target of Rs 30,000 Crore under Excellent category. In addition to above, parameters related to operational efficiency, projects monitoring and financial performance are also part of signed MoU in line with MoU guidelines of Department of Public Enterprises. The MoU signing programme was attended by Ms. Shalini Prasad, Additional Secy, (Thermal, Transmission, OM), Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Joint Secretary (Internal Finance & Budgetary Control.), Aniruddha Kumar Joint Secretary (Thermal, Hydro matters including CPSUs namely, NHPC, SJVNL, NEEPCO, THDC, BBMB Environment Management for Hydro Projects) from the Ministry of Power and AK Jha, Director (Technical), S C Pandey, Director (Projects), K K Sharma, Director( Operations), K Biswal, Director( Finance) and S Roy, ED to CMD and ED(Corporate Planning and Corporate Communication) from NTPC. NTPC is fulfilling power needs of the country through its 18 coal-based, 7 gas-based, 1 hydro based, 9 renewable energy projects and 9 JVs/subsidiaries, thereby bringing about the economic and social growth of the country. The company has a total installed capacity of 47,178 MW at present.

CBI arrests then Director, DDK Shimla (UPDATED)
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against then Director, DDK Shimla presently Deputy Director General, DDK, Jallandhar with additional charge of DDK, Shimla and two distributors of separate private companies based at Jalandhar Punjab and unknown others for entering into a criminal conspiracy with distributors of said private companies of Jalandhar and allowed permission for telecast of Hindi Films from DDK, Shimla on the basis of false information/fake documents submitted by the said distributors and as such, cheated Doordarshan.

Govt wants only a Yes Man

You are absolutely mistaken and mis-leading the viewers. It is going to be either Pangaria or Shakti Kanta Das. The Government wants only a Yes Man and not the calibre of Raghuram Rajan. Raghuram Rajan is only person so far who is always consistent in his talk. The IAS Tribe will be too willing to take down dictation from North Block.

Scrapping of well-established systems in haste may create mess

It seems the Railway minister has made up his mind to merge the Railway budget with the General Budget without considering the implications of such a decision as he has reportedly written to the Finance minister to do so. A practice started 92 years ago on the recommendation of Ackworth committee ,no doubt needs to be reviewed, but to scrap it without discussing its pros and cons is bound to create more complications. Bibekroy committee which recommended the merger cannot be the last word on the subject. The merger if done will overwhelm the General Exchequer without doing any good to the Railways. The Finance Minister should therefore resort to wide-ranging discussions before accepting the suggestion. Scrapping the well-established systems in a hurry without paying heed to the advice of experienced stake holders may result in an avoidable mess.
