What people say about us!

It's a very informative and useful site which I have been religiously following throughout my career. I have superannuated recently and feel that this site can also be made more useful and relevant to retired officers by providing some information on post retirement opportunities, placements etc.

POLITICS

This is History (221)
Many of our politicians, learned in the law, think and talk of constitutions and the like, forgetting the human beings for whom constitutions and laws are made.

Raman Singh - only CM who is PM's favourite !

Raman Singh of Chhattisgarh is perhaps the only Chief Minister with whom Prime Minister is not only comfortable but also friendly.

Chat with American Tourist..
I'm in a famous Coffee Shop in CP....more like community seating downstairs ... so the gentleman seated next to me ...a tourist... and me get talking.

Tourist: Boy the temperature is rising here ..and back home in US the political temperature is rising ..

Me: Your elections really are protracted ..the Primaries to choose the candidates and then the actual Presidential election....

T: Yup... protracted... but time tested. ..but the Nation does not come to a standstill ... yes the Presi could be a Lame Duck Presi...

M: Trump seems to be the frontrunner for the Republican nomination ...

T: In US at a Coffee Shop if you posed this question you should be ready for a long discussion. .. Party loyalties run deep ...but this time one candidate could make the Party lose out..

M: How ....

T: Well come the actual Presidential election I do not expect many Republican Asians or Hispanics or what we call minorities to vote for Trump ...Primaries cannot be the yardstick ...by the way India is changing ... from the last time I was here I see the change ... its a more confident and proud India ..

M: It's what we call. ..the Modi effect...

T: Maybe a controversial chap ...but he's getting the job done ... what's this hullabaloo about a University ...in US if students had raised pro Osama slogans next day some of them could have been shot down.. what with the liberal gun laws ..

M: Yup we in India have too much of Democracy ...and very stringent gun laws ...

T: Modi has put Pakistan in its place ... do you know it's an abuse in US if you call someone a Paki...Modi sure is one dapper dresser ...

M: A man has to have some likes ...but his wardrobe is more ethnic and now he's plugging for Khadi...

T: I've read about his fasting ... and despite the fasting his punishing schedule ...

M: Years of yoga ... not a frivolous or seasonal thing ...he practices Yoga religiously everyday...

T: This Chappie Rahul... a real upstart if I may say...

M: I would say he's a Gunk and it's the guys who surround him who are upstarts ... and poor fellow he pays the price for their stupidities and follies ..

T: They say he's a reluctant politician... I hear he's allegedly loaded .. so why doesn't he just say ... no thank you... and walk away ..

M: In India there is a saying ...I wanna leave the blanket but the blanket does not leave me...

T: Ha ha... I'm now gonna travel all over India ... Kolkata... Chennai... Lucknow ... Bhopal... Bangalore... just a few places that come to mind ... any tips...

M: Yup ...you said in US at this time if you ask a political question you should be prepared for a lengthy discussion ...in India avoid talking politics twelve months ...in some parts people are very politically volatile ....a wrong question and you could get beaten up...

T: Yes..then you do have too much of Democracy ...but it needs some maturing ...

M: Yes ... debating should not lead to getting physical... but on the other hand despite the extreme provocation ..next day in the Uni here no one was shot... I think you guys need to amend your liberal gun laws and become like us..

"Modi has no parallel"
-Prime Minister Narendra Modi who till a little less than two years ago was beloved of the majority might be losing charm in the opinion of some people but the question is that does any one else including his opponents - Rahul, Mulayam or Lalu - have any charm ?
This question came up in the wake of response of the surfers of whispersinthecorridors.com who were asked - "Is PM Narendra Modi losing his charm ? Is he a changed man ?" While some replied in the affirmative, majority did not agree and some of them even asked who else among Indian politicians can stand parallel to him and suggested 'to see the things in the right perspective'.

Views should have been part of the Survey "Modi has no parallel"

I completely agree with the views in WIC dated 15.3.2016 about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I think these views should become part of the Survey "Modi has no parallel" conducted by the site.

Two yardsticks should not be followed

Alok Ranjan unlikely to get extension as several organizations have sent representation to DoPT and PMO against giving extension to Chief Secretaries. Two yardsticks can not be followed-one in Uttaranchan and another in UP. Uttaranchal extension case was turned down.

An excellent choice

I fully agree with views about ACC Approval of Raman as Director-Technical, Steel Authority of India is an excellent choice. No doubt he is a fine officer with impeccable integrity. In fact Mr. Raman is like Abhimanyu in Mahabharata. I am very proud that My class Mate in Bit Sindri (mech Engg) and one year senior to me in school has become SAIL director. But unfortunately I am Retired officer in PSU( my age is 62 years), could not congratulate him personally. As per SAIL records his DOB is 1-8-1958. He completed SSLC in 1971 ( at age of 12 years 8 months), completed class 1 at the age of 8 months, completed KG ( at age of 1year 8 months, completed nursery 1 month before birth, and Joined BIT Sindri in 1972 and left it in 1977 at the age of 19 years 8 months, joined SAIL Bokaro on 18th April 1979 at the age of 21 year 8 months. All his class mates, school mates including his younger co brother (1978 passed out from BIT Sindri) retired as GM steel in Durgapur steel plant in September 2015. No doubt he is a fine officer with impeccable record. I thanks to SAIL management, Steel ministry, PESB ( for not selecting two candidates from IIT/NIT having useless experience from Bhilai steel plant /Rourkela steel plant , Bhadravati steel plant with useless degree in Metallurgy and MBA as executive directors) and finally thanks to ACC for approval for five years (ie up to 1-8-2021). Finally I thank SAIL vigilance for giving clearance. Really Satyameva Jayate.

" What a nightmare, it was !"

I do not agree with views on "What a festival it was!"(WIC, March 16). Living very close to ground zero of Yamuna bank, my experience of AOL mega event was one of disillusionment. Most unprofessionally organized, the participants and the audience were made to sit through the rains like the captives, all the three days. No protective cover despite advance meteorological warnings. Children and ladies had to cover themselves under wet carpets. The artistes had to perform in wet clothes, braving the poorly-lit muddy patches on the Yamuna floodplains. I was a witness to the drama organized by a spiritual Guru for personal advertisement. It was an ecological disaster, waste of time and resources besides involving exploitation of children. Most uninspiring and de-motivating. Thieves, child-lifters and pickpockets galore. As per media reports (HT,March 16), 72 FIRs were registered by Delhi Police.

DATE WITH RTI

Fraudulent surrender of LIC Policy

The Appellant took a health plus policy. She learnt that her policy was surrendered without her knowledge on the basis of her forged signatures on the policy and the amount was used for taking two new policies by her mother-in-law. She complained to LIC and got an FIR registered at Meerut. The LIC informed her that they had sought the explanation of the agent concerned. She asked for a copy of this explanation of the LIC agent under RTI which was denied to her. She argued that the information sought related to her and therefore, she was not a third party and had a right to get a copy of the explanation. LIC stated that on the basis of a complaint, they had paid the amount along with interest to the appellant and redressed her grievance. The copy of the explanation submitted by the agent was denied claiming it to be personal information related to the agency. Relying on the Apex Court judgment in Girish Ramchandra Deshpande case, the CIC upheld the denial of information

Comments

The appellant was able to get back the amount with interest due to the pressure created by RTI application. It is a mute question whether an explanation of the LIC agent in respect of alleged fraud committed in respect of a client can be called as a third party information.
