whispers in the corridors

Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, participated as Chief Guest in the Graduation Day of Anna University held on February 6, 2025at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Anna University at Chennai. The Graduation Day 2024 of the constituent colleges of Anna University, held at the Vivekananda Auditorium of the University, was also graced by Prof. S Usa, Professor & Chairperson, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Anna University & Member, Convenor Committee, Anna University. Delivering the convocation address, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, extended his wishes to all those receiving their certificates on a day that coincided with the arrival of Swami Vivekananda in Egmore, Chennai on this day in 1897. Emphasising the importance of meditation in daily life to focus on targets and strive for excellence, he encouraged the students to embrace universal brotherhood, essential for taking the country to new heights. He exhorted the students to use the knowledge and skills acquired to face challenges in a world of unprecedented changes and convert them to opportunities. Engineers are problem-solvers and innovators, he said. Stating that today we lived in a world that demanded sustainability, resilience and innovation, he said that engineers were tasked with ensuring that we hand over a better, sustainable planet to the generations that follow. The essence of engineering was transforming ideas into reality, bridging the gap between imagination and implementation. The role of an engineer was not limited to a single domain. Be it developing a new technology, managing complex projects, or even addressing societal issues, the skills possessed by engineers were unmatched, he said. He stated that the world of engineering today was brimming with possibilities. The power sector, for example, once dominated by Thermal Power Plants, was now rapidly transitioning towards renewable energy. Wind and solar power, once considered niche, were now mainstream. Energy storage systems, green hydrogen, and carbon capture technologies were redefining the sector, offering solutions to challenges that seemed insurmountable a decade ago, he said. He pointed out that technology, too, was advancing at an unprecedented pace. Artificial intelligence, for instance, was transforming industries across the board. Engineers had a critical role in ensuring that these technologies were used responsibly, ethically, and effectively. India today stood as the fastest-growing large economy in the world, a beacon of opportunity and innovation. Indian Engineers carry the legacy of excellence and the promise of a brighter future. The global stage recognizes and respects the talent that emerges from our land, he said. He also noted that the day was a tribute to the unwavering support and guidance of parents and teachers, the pillars of strength behind the graduates, nurturing their dreams and inspiring their achievements. He urged the graduates to dream big, work hard, and nurture self-belief. He called upon the graduates to face the future with confidence and a full knowledge that they possessed the skills, knowledge, and character to shape a better tomorrow. Prof. S. Usa, Professor & Chairperson, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Anna University & Member, Convenor Committee, Anna University also addressed the graduates. The Graduation ceremony was attended by University officials, Principals & Deans, faculties, distinguished guests, students and parents.
