whispers in the corridors

IPS Shravan Dath Sodha is a 2016 Batch Officer of Maharashtra cadre and is currently posted as Superintendent of Police in Nandurbar, Maharashtra. A predominately tribal district-His Vision is to empower community by reaching every corner in the district, skill the youth, promote awareness and ensure service delivery is accessible and effective.
One of his key initiatives is ‘Smart e-beat Patrolling System’ leveraging technology for policing and police visibility. Launched during Chief Minister’s 100-day program, this system monitors the movement of marshals, police personnel, and officers to ensure proper patrolling within each police station’s jurisdiction. “We've mapped over 700 locations—such as schools, colleges, ATMs, banks, and religious sites—that require regular police visibility.” He said
This system not only provides real-time monitoring but also calculates the percentage of points covered or missed by the patrolling teams “Since it’s automated, we get a real-time status report after every shift. Based on performance, we can reward personnel for good work or take corrective measures if standards aren’t met” he explained.
Another initiative launched by Sodha in the last hundred days is the introduction of permanent mobile numbers for police officers across the district to ensure that the contact number for a particular position remains the same. This brings uniformity and helps citizens as they don't have to update their contact lists every time there's a change in personnel or during the time of emergency “These permanent numbers will be passed on during transfers, ensuring continuity and better institutional memory in police-public communication” he said.
Apart from this, there has been an ongoing effort to create awareness "We are working to create awareness among the people, ensuring there is no conflict between the law and their culture," says Sodha. On the skill development front, the police joined hands with an NGO to help train 45 tribal youth.
Looking ahead,Sodha’s focus this year is to target villages where service delivery has not met expectations “The Collector of Nandurbar and I are developing a program to implement this in certain identified villages where service delivery has not met expectations or has been lacking." He quoted.
