Maharashtra Chief Secretary race: IS Chahal and Rajesh Aggarwal reportedly reach final round (UPDATED)

The Maharashtra Chief Secretary is retiring on June 30 and the race for the new Chief Secretary has come to final stage. Rajesh Kumar, the senior-most IAS officer after the incumbent Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik and holding the post of Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) is said to be under consideration. But, he will get just two months since he will be retiring in August. So, the knowledgeable sources are ruling out his claim. The other officers in race include Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary at the Union Ministry of Social Justice; and IS Chahal, Additional Chief Secretary (Home). If Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis decides to appoint a Chief Secretary for a year-long tenure and Rajesh Aggarwal comes back to his parent state to take over, he will eliminate at least eight Secretaries from the competition for the top post. If the sources are to be believed, the name of IS Chahal was doing rounds since he will get seven months as the Chief Secretary. He is set to retire in January next year. After IS Chahal and Rajesh Aggarwal, the officer who are serving in the state and are in race include Anil Diggikar and Bhushan Gagrani. Diggikar, the Additional Chief Secretary for Divyang Kalyan Department, will be superannuating in May next year and BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani is set to retire in March next year.
